Top tip: Watch out for pickpockets at all times

I feel so bad for everyone getting pickpocketed. There should be like civilian patrol for this or something cuz I hate seeing other people's fun time getting ruined. Ppl save up all year for these trips sometimes and it sucks we have to worry about this.
 
Just got back and for what it's worth PDB no sketchier than last time. Perhaps it's different in peak season. Usuall prostitutes/lucky luckys post club but they were fine. Wasn't anything like the zoo portrayed TBH. Though bora bora was grim just due to the smell of alpha male.

Very sneaky luggage thieves are operating on a daily basis.
The police don't seem to be doing anything to combat this problem
so we need to get the message out there to everyone using the airport.

Friend had her phone and money stolen from her bumbag

It was so busy you couldn't move and everyone was jostling and pushing, obviously ruined their hols

Wasn't smashed at all, to steal from a bum bag is outrageous, these people are nothing but scum

Glad I went We Love instead

Indeed. Shows their gall, and also how skilful they have become to do this undetected. Had a similar experience myself over opening week at Sankeys.
 
TBH Icey downstairs was virtually empty, however the Lab was Ramo especially for Rudimental.

After them they closed the Lab and we all went into the main room, I only went to see Jason Bye so I was happy.

I had a great time, met some great people on the Terrace and danced my arse off, for me that's what it's all about.

Not convinced We Love will be at Sankeys next year but it was cool

I must admit I felt like I was tapping my pockets all the time making sure all is well, but you must be careful, some girls were absolutely smashed and prime targets for these scum.

was 42nd street with its former big theatres which were sex-cinemas and peepshows back then.
there was the biggest peepshow i ever had seen- absolutely amazing when you're 1st time in us with 17 - name was something with money ... "silver coin" or "golden dollar" or something like that.
we had not much money and stayed at a corner of 42nd street next to the port authority bus terminal.
there was no tripadvisor or stuff like that ... so we later found out that our hotel was listed in the top10 of the world's worst hotels :cool:

I'm coming to the island for the first time in about a months time and I'm so glad I've had a look at this forum as I had no idea about this side of the island (coming from australia ) . I'll have a look out for all of this stuff mentioned. Hope my trip doesn't get ruined by some scum bag.

Of course this side of the island is not gonna be publicized, but it was my fault for not being careful I guess. My parents had gone on a trip a month prior to mainland Spain and told me to be careful but I didn't heed their warning. Pickpocketing does not occur in Toronto but I realized in Europe it's more prevalent. It was a SEVERE damper on my trip, and I can only imagine how it would be for you since you're coming from an even greater distance away!

I'm sure you've read through this thread and read my tale of pickpocketing woe on the first page already. I'm staying again in San Antonio but there's certain things I'm doing to be careful this time. I'm gonna get a wallet with a chain on it that I could attach to my belt. and only put SOME of the cash I need for the night or activity in it and the rest of the cash I'm putting in my other pocket and all my credit cards are staying hidden in the hotel room or safe. Secondly I have to be wary of any idiots around the San Antonio fountain area that try distracting me by getting close and shit with a dance they do just so they can rob me.

This all basically leaves my cellphone for the theives to take and I'm thinking of keeping it in my lower pockets of my cargo pants which have buttons or just using a backup smartphone I have when I go around. I know DC-10 and Space have issues with theft, so i'll definitely be keeping my phone in my lower pockets. I'm thinking of getting a money belt to hide under my shirt also to put my phone in.

All good ideas which I will be doing to. I'm thinking of not even taking my phone out with me just to minimise the risk of losing it as I can lose it pissed on my own lol. A chain on my belt is a good idea. You don't have to worry about this stuff at all in australia so very new to me.
 
I live here and to prevent pick-pocketing there are a few pretty easy rules:

- no valuables (phone or wallet) in girls' handbags. give them to you male friends. even if you have a bag that closes well (say with a zip), if you're drunk or spangled and you're in the midst of the masses you won't notice when you're 'attacked'. these bastards are sadly very good.

- guys: phone and money ALWAYS in front pocket of trousers. best to either buy a very small wallet (credit card size) or alternatively just have the money loose in front pocket (I personally use one of those small wallets when I go clubbing). if you have your stuff in the front pockets of your trousers nothing will happen.

I think the main problem is that people aren't aware enough about the pickpockets. it's really pretty easy to avoid being robbed
 
^money loose in front pockets is a more simple strategy actually, I agree.. I would split it between a few pockets though. I had to do this last year and sure enough nothing happened. Loose change I just put in a plastic ziploc bag.

The phone is the biggest issue and I wish i could just keep it in my front pocket but just worried that even if I keep it in my front pocket that these theives will be savvy enough to lift it when I'm mashed and have my guard down. I'm trying to find a travel pouch which loops to hang around my belt for a phone but I might just wing it and trust you Stivi. Just wondering how these other guys get their phones stolen at Space and DC-10.

This is the one that gets me every time I see it. How many times I've seen some out of it ladies in the middle of DC10 or Amnesia with their hand bags open or round the back of them! I mean come ON!
