The Olympics

This is a question for the people who live in GB.

I'm not a fan but he made a great point (Dizzy Rascal). How many of the Olympic venues will be left for the population to use after the games are over? The mountain bike course looks great, it might need to be tamed for the weekend warriors? I'm looking forward to the closing ceremonies. Great job by GB putting on the games games and good job by team GBR in the medal count bid up!

The aquatic centre and the velodrome are being kept and used by local people and the stadium will be used by either West Ham or Spurs as of 2014 (I think) a lot of the other sports venues were at existing venues (Earls Court, Excel, Wembley Arena and stadium etc

the closing ceremony was like one huge big guiness tv advert from the 90's, but with mainly rubbish music.

the obsession with jessie j is laughable as well....although i take it the Queen section was where robbie williams was supposed to be singing

Presenter of the coverage on irish channel RTE2 kept calling Jessica Ennis:oops::oops: Jennifer Aniston."Here`s the King and Queen of london 2012 King Usian Bolt and Queen Jennifer Aniston"...

Quote from a mate on fb: "Jessie J singing Queen? Well I suppose if you give her a moustache and squint a bit..."

If Spain and the USA make it to the finals, I think it will be a good game. The world championships came down to the last minutes. The USA are short of big men which could mean trouble. I still pick the USA to win the gold and Silver to the Spanish.;)

good game i thought.

We never really managed to put any sort of lead when we went ahead, the most we were ahead by was about 2 points.. whenever we got near you guys would just knock in a three pointer..

the long shooting was so accurate it's unbelievable.

Still in 2008 we lost by 11, in 2012 we lost by 7.. we're getting nearer!
(Actually it was Navarro's and Pau's last Olympics so not sure if we'll get that close again)

I was sweating a bit, I must admit. It was a good game very entertaining. The next team USA should have more big men.

All the superlatives people are throwing around to describe the closing ceremony made me realise I was watching something entirely different in a parallel universe.

My take on the closing ceremony:

HUGE embarrassment minus Lennox, Lennon and Mercury.

A shame that after such a bold nod to socialism and the underground in the opening that we're reduced to consumerist 'nostalgia' like the spice girls.

BUT:

The collective wave of cynicism was a comforting return to normal service in Britain. Very fitting for a closing ceremony.

and...despite its awfulness, popular culture 'is' a part of Britain too and therefore deserves a stage. Who am I to critique something that others genuinely revel in?
