The footy !!

Chelsea apply the same tactics at Barca in the Champions League and its tactical genius and professional..

I'd love to see that, I remember us getting called anti-football and a disgrace to the game all over the press and media even on this very forum after the away game.

Maybe you heard it from me, but not the media..

;)

So whats your view on the current situation mate? Are you in the Ancelotti camp?

Put it this way I can't see it improving if he gets sacked. I've supported Chelsea for ages and a little barren spell doesn't affect my love of the club...

I agree. Every team goes through a rough patch. I'd much prefer keeping Ancelotti, creating some stability, and coming in 4th this year (assuming we improve next year!) than sacking him and starting over with another manager AGAIN.

Penalty? Yes

Red Card? Probably, yes.

No complaints. other than the ITV commentary team are still clueless.

Penalty? No as diving like that would get him picked for the Bulgarian Diving Team.

Red Card? Definately, yes but that for the cheat who plays for the Tr*sh in red.

Never mind the ITV commentary team being clueless for if you're a MUFC fan than maybe you are aswell:lol:

As for my team Leeds who it must be said were very unlucky not to leave the Emirates with a win. Todays claim by Wallcot that he tried cheating for winning a penalty means ref's will probably now be wary of him in the future?

However i for one prefer "The Gunners" to the trash in Red who play at old trafford. Infact after the match yesterday Leeds & Arsenal fans were enjoying a good pint and banter together, myself included. Which is in the true sprit of football supporters.;)

is that a pen for you? really, you're happy with the state of the game if that is considered a pen?

i think the game suffers overall if that is considered a pen. of course there was contact and of course you could argue using the rules that it was a pen, but really did the contact actually make berbatov go down. he took another step before he fell, it wasn't like it was a clean trip.

it's the same as the hundreds of free-kicks that get given every week when there is any sort of upper body contact and the player's legs go from under them. it lessens the game IMO and makes it easier for people to play for fouls. i'm not talking about the pires leg flick thing, it's more the ronaldo/nani style thing. it's the type of foul torres plays for every time and gets about 50% of them, he shouldn't get any in fact, which would then force him to play for the ball instead. it's like a bit of hussle, an arm or shoulder trying to get in front of him is a foul. it's not.

diving or simulation or whatever isn't black or white, a player who gets a touch and then does a blatant dive is no better IMO than one who isn't touched and goes down. their motives are the same, they are trying to simulate something and gain an advantage by it. for me this is what berbatov did. i don't blame him, he knows that he's got a good chance of getting a pen if he goes down, but if he knew he didn't have a chance of getting a pen (cos it shouldn't be), then he'd stay on his feet.

sadly, things are too far gone with that culture at high level football for it to be any other way, which means that fans will have to suffer soft pens and free-kicks more and more.

Thats about it in a nutshell. IMO it looked 50/50. Only on replay could you see it wasnt a pen. To be fair to Webb it probably looked like a foul from behind and Berbatov executed the dive clinically:)

There needs to be some kind of post match review where divers are disciplined something like the citing system in Rugby.

Nice to see the Dalglish magic at work. At least while it lasted (35 secs weren't it)

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

The rags singing "sacked in the morning" to him was quite amusing as well

First reaction; it was a penalty. Seen them given for less. Agger was naive at best. Believe me, siding with the Mancs is not a habit of mine.

I'm all for a bit of partisan support, but it just looked like a penalty. Couldn't see it any other way.

Gerrard was looking to get one back on Carrick for his earlier challenge, fcuk all to do with the Meireles one just before.

All that said, I don't think we'd have seen the amount of determination in the second half if Uncle Woy was still in charge, so hopefully it will continue.

Downside is that SG misses the derby next weekend.

on the rules, the thing is, they are open to interpretation when it comes to what is a foul (like one given through contact, etc).

it's not just black and white like 'the whole ball must be over the line', the ref has to decide each time if that constitutes a foul. you can't put in the rules 'if there is contact, it's a foul' cos it could apply to any contact.

but therein lies the problem, because i reckon you'd get 50:50 split on a decision like the pen today if you asked 10 different refs. i think some would change their minds from the first time to seeing on a replay as well.

so does that mean that sometimes there is no fair decision?

Great point.

IMHO football has moved from being a "man's game" to something closer to basketball in terms of the most minimal contact being considered a foul.

Rugby and most recently cricket have dramatically improved the level of accuracy in decisions with the review system, but as a secondary result, most of the players don't risk what is sometimes called "gamesmanship" because they are more likely to get caught.

The only way to get the consistency that most people crave would be to make the rules more black & white with less open to interpretation, bring in a review system and set out the penalties for those that are found to be "cheating".

On the other hand, even reading that back seems wayyyy too painful, so we could just get on with it, leave the game alone and enjoy lots of heated debate on the internet after each game!

I think goals showed be reviewed in match the technology is there. The simulation/ diving can be reviewed after the game unless a penalty kick is awarded, that could be reviewed in match. The red cards could be handed out quickly and put a end to diving and end some careers early.

i agree jammy. it's just how it is and i'm not particularly for changing it.

that said, there are some things like goal line technology and even offsides perhaps that could be automated to the point of knowing instantly the decision. it wouldn't disrupt play at all.

other stuff like fouls, bookings, diving, etc is cultural. it would be nice to get to a stage whereby, through post-match action, cheaters are named and shamed and not just in the way people know ronaldo dives, but by saying to him "oi son, you're a fcukin ****, cut it out else i'll hairdryer you".

btw - i know basketball is meant to be non-contact but i think football should look to that as an example. of course the rules state no contact, but in fact the game is brutal, contact and strength, etc, etc is a vital part of the game. it's just at the point of possession/action the law is different.

anyway, no way a pen. howard webb and whiskey nose sitting in a tree

Nah, any impartial fan would say it could be a pen/seen them given, though Berbatove clearly could have stayed up.

In other news - why would Walcot come out and say he dived? I haven't seen it but I believe it was an unsolicited confession:lol:
