The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Evra dropped his hand so Suarez moved on to De Gayer. Whisky Nose should keep his mouth shut, but the whole affair is a stain on both clubs.

Well done to Spurs though. Nailed on 3rd place unless they lose their Manager.

:p

I've watched it a few times, neither player puts their hand out to shake....

I watched it in real time and replays Suarez skipped him and Evra reached over and tried to shake his hand. That caused Rio to refuse to shake his hand.

Suarez started the crap

If you've watched it in real time and still believe that Jam, then you are blinded by your allegiance.

At best the stills show a little understandable lack of enthusiasm on Evra's part.

A stain on both clubs?

The only club who have come out looking like scum are the bindippers.

I'll be honest: I've hated Suarez since he knocked Ghana out of the World Cup with his best volleyball imitation.

I don't believe for a second the BS that Liverpool was spouting about cultural and linguistic differences, etc. He knew full well that what he said to Evra was not acceptable in the UK, and I'm sure he did it to get under his skin. The club continuing to back him is a disgrace. He got what he deserved from the FA.

What happened yesterday just confirms what an ass he really is.

If anyone at Liverpool had a pair of cajones, there would be some club discipline for the player and a swift smack upside the head so that he'd stand up and act right.

let's be fair. as per usual. the FA have ****ed this right up. the enquiry was a circus, which devalues the impact of the issue. moreover....

they found suarez was "probably guilty" as well as amongst other things, the fact "he is not a racist".

thanks fcuk for clarity then, hey!! pure fence sitting!!!

john - it wasn't nice to see the ghana handball but literally any other player would have done the same thing given the circumstances. in fact, we'd probably make a hero of them if it were our team.

also, why does he have to shake hands with him? when doesn't wayne bridge with terry or anton ferdinand with terry or the other way around in either case?

i do agree though that it's been handled awfully by LFC.

fergie's comments yesterday predictably incendiary.

Evra played it very clever yesterday. He looked away & dropped his hand so Suarez would move on, then played the wounded soldier.

IMHO, Suarez relayed this to KD etc. hence the reaction in the Geoff Shreeves interview.

I Watched it live, but without the Sky commentary and this made a big difference to how I saw it. BOTH replays were shown, with a "What went on here?" angle rather than the Sky one sided version.

In the end though, 99% of people who watched it, did so with the Sky commentary, and the rest saw the initial "Suarez refused" headlines, and minds were made up.

LFC had no choice but to back down and create a "quoted" apology from Suarez.

Evra's a lying cnut, but with the momentum of Ferguson, the FA and the media, there's no use arguing any more....

This incident should have been sorted by BOTH clubs before they even took to the pitch. It could have ended up a lot worse than it did.

It came close to an incendiary and explosive situation.... who knows where it could have ended up with both clubs dislike for each other.

Both Managers acted irresponsibly. What type of example went out to kids yesterday...... Embarrassing day for football.

Can you explain to me why evra is a lying ****?

Can somebody please fix the page format dimensions.

Why is the page allowed to go so wide???

Or is it just my browser (google chrome) that has the problem.

Think jammy is referring to the stamford bridge incident a few years ago....when the
FA said his account was "exaggerated and unreliable".

Or maybe it was the 2010 revolt when he nearly got banned for life from the national team for behaviour you might just call "a disgrace".

He also made sure everyone knew he thought Suarez called him a ni**er, several times, let's guess 5 maybe, 6 times, before later deciding he'd misunderstood and agreeing suarez hadnt said that in fact.

Sure he's a lovely chap like. I mean when someone as respected as lilian thuram comes out and talks about him the way he did, you can't have any other opinion!!

So let me get this straight. Suarez was banned for nothing then? Even though he admitted calling evra something deemed as racist?

How on earth is it that nearly everyone is condeming lfc for thier behavior then?

well that's not what i said at all, just that it is documented and admitted by him that what he thought had happened wasn't actually the case. by the time he'd realised this, fergie had already gone storming into the ref's changing room saying "he called my player a ni**er" and the fireworks had gone off..........very difficult to stop the ball rolling then.

there's no point going over the case again but you say "deemed as racist". Well, an investigation, several weeks of testimony, expert witnesses left, right and centre and a 115 page report weren't so conclusive, as they only said that he was "probably guilty". so obviously, the people on the panel weren't so sure, far from it in fact. they also said "he is not racist". bit too late for the football chants....

despite understanding some of the cultural differences, at first hand, I personally didn't buy that cultural/language excuse initially, as suarez should know having played in europe long enough. i also didn't think you could say "negro" in that context and it not be pejorative, but it's also not as simple as it seems. the fact they were speaking in spanish to each other meant suarez was held to literal translation of what he said, i.e. erroneous interpretation, evra wasn't of course.

moreover, a lot of the problem is that it's one person's word against another's. so it's actually very unlikely that the truth will ever surface.

How on earth is it that nearly everyone is condeming lfc for thier behavior then?

mainly cos the media ran stories like "SUAREZ GUILTY OF RACISM: 8 MATCH BAN", etc. the fine detail, such as mentioned above obviously are ignored.

i also think the FA wanted to make an example of someone on this, to be honest, on that basis and cos the issue is so important, i'd even accept taking one for the team. be interesting to see the outcome of the terry trial. seem to remember alan shearer having a habit of getting away with naughtiness, same applies to stevie G and rooney too.

that aside, i still think the club handled it disastrously and made it a lot worse than it should have been.

I watched it live and the first thing I thought was WTF? Did you see Evra reach over and try to shake Suarez hand when he was shaking the next persons hand? I don't think Evra is a model citizen. The point of shaking hands at the beginning of the match is an act of sportsmanship. This is suppose to show youth that they can also have sport without hate.
