The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

Luis Suarez made a big mistake...I'm a Liverpool fan ever since I can remember - but Luis Suarez made a BIG mistake. He is learning about the fvcked up tabloid media journalism in a big way.

I've seen all the camera angles, Evra pulled his hand down, Luis kept his hand level so who refused the handshake...yadda yadda..

My wife is Panamanian and I explained the whole thing to her...she laughed, I call my friend Negrita all the time she said....well I said, it's a disgrace, calling people names like that...she said names like what? we don't mean it in an offensive way...but if we did, it would be like calling someone a ****er or bastard.

Therein lies the whole bollox around this issue, Luis Suarez is like a rabbit in the headlights right now, for a word he said, which has brought the entire world of sports attention, he was banned for 8 games, has been permanently branded a RACIST, which John Barnes, Glen Johnson and others have been quick to testify of course he is clearly not and is pissed with EVRA, not I believe because of Evra's tactics of reporting him, but pissed with him because he was the cause of a massive upset in the career of a brilliantly talented footballer.

Can't everyone see this media frenzy brought on from a bunch of xenophobic tabloid newspapers and readers for what it is?

Wake up people, read between the lines, you have all said something you regret in the heat of the moment, and sometimes those things aren't nice... but ffs, punishment and crime and all that...

Jesus Christ.

I am black by the way.

I kinda agree with you in a sense that I think this entire episode has been completely blown out of proportion. But yesterday was a chance to end that, at least diffuse it to the point it wasn't all over the news and papers all the time. In my opinion, Suarez should know by now what is expected of him in Europe and that what happened during the game in November was wrong and should not have happened. A very severe punishment and public disgracing was levelled at him and that should have been the end of it. Time to move on and start talking about football again. But his actions yesterday have only further increased the spotlight on this whole sorry affair and despite the apologies, I don't think its dead and buried just yet. Judging by the response of those with a Liverpool allegiance on here its clear that this is something they still have major issue with, and i'm counting you lot on here as being at the more polite end of the spectrum. I've watched the incident quite a few times and at no point do I see Evra backing out of the gesture. He offered his hand, admittedly and understandably not very enthusiastically - but he still did it. Suarez should have been the one looking for it. The saddest part of it for me was watching Kenny Dalglish lose the plot on live tv. I ****ing love Kenny Dalglish. To be put in that position by someone who is paid a considerable amount of money to represent your club was an absolute disgrace. I think thats where the penny dropped for Liverpool and why these apologies have come out now. They realise the gravity of Suarez's error of judgement and can no longer maintain the support they have shown up till now.

It'd be nice for a return to normal proceedings. Haven't any footballers been shagging around recently? Surely theres better stuff for the media to focus on ffs!

Neither one of them made the effort to shake hands. Saurez had his hand out, Evra kinda half had his hand out. No-one moved to initiate a handshake.

Both as bad as each other for that but I have to say Evra's reaction made things worse. If Saurez didnt shake his hand he shoul dhave just shrugged it off and ignored him, rather than acting like a petulant kid.

this is 2 grown men who clearly don't like one another so if they don't wanna shake hads who cares. It's the first time 2 players haven't shook hands and i'm sure it won't be the last.

Aye thats fine, and I agree that they shouldn't be made to do it, but Liverpool had stated prior to it that it would happen. Whether he wanted to or not, if he was told to do it he should have done it. If he didn't want to do it he should have said to Liverpool I'm not doing it. It was inevitable it was going to be a focal point yesterday. I think its almost a bit panto to be honest. But it was the perfect opportunity to put and end to a pretty regrettable chapter in the premiership.

Also should have also added - Evras reaction at the end went too far. Celebrate it by all means - it was obviously significant and passion is running high, but he was pretty blatantly winding it up to the point where something could have kicked off.

If it was your kids you would give them a spanking and that would be the end of it. The hand shake would have ended the whole sad affair and the match would have been the topic. the LFC jumps to Saurez defense quickly and strongly, cooler heads should prevail.

**** the JFK conspiracy theories.

He was banned for 8 games for making racist comments and then he refused to shake the hand of the bloke who he made those comments to.

And he probably did it because he knows full well that his pampered racist ass with be supported by an avalanche of blind loyalty defending the indefensible.

It's amazing to see how many Liverpool fans are willing to go to ridiculous lengths to defend this ***** simply because he's currently at their club.

He should be driven out for being a bell end.

Agree with this.
A handshake, however small a gesture, would have put this whole thing to bed.
Pretty sick of reading about it everywhere I turn, to be honest!

Oh please go no!

I'm with FF on the Kenny thing. Terrible to see a man widely regarded as a decent chap, looking foolish or deluded.

Looks like the power involved in the big business that is football corrupts all these days.

Liverpool fans are, of course, correct that the redtops are creaming themselves at all this, but the facts are what they are, and it's a shame.

My first City match attended was in 1979

I assure you the criteria of being a city fan for me since then hasn't been 'only interested in winning & northern'

Luis Suarez has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Whitney Houston in a racially motivated attack.
Eye witness Patrice Evra says he saw Suarez kill her at least 10 times. Sir Alex Ferguson has called for the death penalty, Kenny Dalglish says he has never heard of Whitney Houston and questioned whether she actually existed. Howard Webb has made a statement confirming that he saw it all.

and because of all the above Balotelli has been banned for the rest of the season

Arsenal got battered last night 4 nil, They were out classed and the CL season is done. I have no confidence they can win by 5 goals to advance. They drop into the Europa league could be in the future. They must hold onto 4th or higher at all cost. Sad showing last night.

Surely even the most fickle Wenger fan must realise its time for him to go.. how long can he live off his previous success??
