The end of the West End?

If the Brits can’t afford it next year will that be a problem for the Ibizan economy?

The Pound is actually higher today against the Euro than in 2018-2020 and on a par with most of 2021. Of course there are many other economic worries but so have other countries too. Sure the Brits will still be there in number next year.

Today the demand from a much richer audience is so strong that they no longer need to attract a younger audience without money.
This doesn't explain the government crusade against low-end tourist businesses.

If there is a richer audience, businesses will adjust without any interference by the authorities. The Highlander will turn into a Rolex store. Koppas will turn into a Michelin-starred restaurant. Hush will turn into a real estate agency selling expensive villas.

Since all these places are still operating as usual, it means the "new money" isn't really there, and the government is working against the market by bullying businesses and making up new rules to make their life difficult.

The crusade against the West End has nothing to do with the market evolution.

Last Saturday, so on October 22nd, quite late in the season, the Six Senses, one of the most expensive and exclusive hotels on the island was 82% full, a friend who works there told me.
No doubt, since half of 5* hotels on the island are closed already. This doesn't mean you can convert every hotel in San An into a 5* luxury resort and make 5x the money. The demand has grown multiple times for sure, but it is still way too low to sustain the island's economy on luxury travel alone.

But it depends frow

Not only a question of money. As very well explained by @Tourist, it's just what the people who vote want, and the politics know that.

The max. number of tourists is limited , because ressources, infrastructur and so on. Freshwater is a problem, for example. Then you change the tourists , if you want to rise your sales.

Saw on a video that the pavement works around the West End have restarted. Aim is to repave everywhere, bury overhead wires and replace the temporary tarmac down the main west end street.
