The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

At least DC10 and Pikes are mostly still like that.

There were quite a few well-known celebrities (i.e. proper VIPs!) on the dance-floor at both of those and nobody cared. Refreshing to see them enjoying themselves and not tucked away in a VIP area away from all the best action.

Clara is right though - the kids don't know what they missed. think about it - a dancefloor is probably the only place on earth where you don't judge people by accent or class or pay bracket. they could be a duke or a plumber or a whore or a florist. you don't know. you don't care. that is - or was- part of the fun and actually changed society for the better...

It is still exactly like that in my opinion

I genuinely do not know who is VIP or not in these clubs. I have got chatting to so many randoms and had pics with so many randoms on the dance floor

I still remember a guy walking around Amnesia holding a Samsung Tablet with 'Free hugs' written on it carrying a monkey teddy wrapped around his neck. I made sure he got a hug

If you 'don't care about the people around you' when clubbing then I guess you are fairly new to it and have not yet experienced an amazing club atmosphere.

You can be at the nicest club with the best sound system and visuals listening to your favourite artist but if everybody is just standing on the dancefloor and VIP areas sat down like they are at a restaurant it does not even compare to the experience of club full of people properly going for it.

Take a look at DC10 in this video (old times) no visuals, crappy sound system and I don't particularly like Magda or minimal, but I have had the best experiences of my life in there all because of the atmosphere.

Just imagine instead of looking around and seeing people loving it, hands in the hair and dancing you see a big velvet rope across half of the room with surly bouncers guarding it, guys in trousers sat down with gold digger women who have so much botox they can't crack a smile waiting for a champagne bottle with a f***ing sparkler in it! It simply does not even compare.

I've heard a few people saying DC10 isn't what it used to be with the techno brigade taking over with their black tshirts, long white socks, sunnies, there just to be seen, fist-pumping on the dancefloor etc. Don't know if there's any truth in that whatsoever, but that sort of crowd is a turn off for me. It's a really weird trend of macho British lads lads lads suddenly embracing techno and thinking they're very cool because they went to DC10 etc. It's massively try hard, and a lot of these groups have a bit of an aggressive edge as well which is not what I'm about when I'm trying to dance and have a good time.

Totally agree with this! I'm a young British lad who goes to Ibiza and probably has a similar dress sense to what you describe. However I have a strong love for music and love to meet new people when out and about. The type of people you describe are the exact thing I hate when going out in the UK or abroad. The arrogant British lads who go around thinking they are better than everyone and are cool really do wind me up when I'm out. Not every young British guy in a black t-shirt is like that though so maybe give the odd one a chance and you never know.

I did make a sweeping generalisation about the 'techno uniform' so I do take that back. As a girl who usually goes out clubbing with her boyfriend perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive to groups of lads being arrogant and a bit aggressive, but good to know I'm not the only one who's picked up on the attitude. It's really off-putting and there's no place for it. Sankeys is my worst experience of it in Ibiza, not bad enough to remotely spoil my night or anything, but comparing the crowd with the one at Space the night before, it just felt different, just a bit more on edge.

Yeah, kind of agree with this, but then I find the same with big groups of Italians at MusicON who are less on happy-stuff and more on aggressive-me-me substances. I'd probably say Paradise is worst for the groups of British guys. I never did Paradise last year for that very reason.

Damn right your not the only to pick up on the attitude, its the main thing that has stopped me going to Sankey's. I cant imagine a worse night that being surrounded by loads of British kids thinking they are gods gift. However the crowd I saw at Space closing last year was one of the best experiences of my life. Every single person was in a good mood and everyone come together to create a very special vibe.

That also very true! From experience the Italians are just as bad as the British but in their own way. Obviously this won't be all of them but I get the sense they don't want to socialise with anyone British and can be very rude when you try to talk to them.

Weirdly, it only appears to be in Ibiza that you get the moodier Italians. Went to timewarp back when it was in Italy and the crowd could not have been better. Same in London at parties with lots of Italians.

if you think BCM is one of the world's best clubs, then that explains why we disagree so often ;)
I thought he was being sarcastic at first! I have been to the BCM and can definitely say I would not class it as "one of the worlds best clubs" but whatever floats ya boat :D

If it is classed as one of the worlds best clubs then it has to be a 'proper' club - that is all I am getting at

My memories of BCM was the incredible sound system actually but anyway

I am on here to be open minded and learn. The1likejose though likes to tell everyone they're wrong and he is right and state I am clueless....funny coming from a guy that is all about being a peoples person on the dance floor

I remember an Italian who was as lit as a fog lamp and asking me random questions
He was even dry humping a girl off her feet

I feel sorry for the people that think that clubbing is the best thing they can do in the island...
Try spending a May weekend in Formentera in your boat, thats trully paradise! :)

the beauty of ibiza is that it offers so much different stuff on such a limited space really :)

I still get clara's point though. yeah, KU and pacha used to have 'privé' areas since the 70s already, but the way a lot of the clubs' business models have changed and thus sometimes the vibe in these clubs too...that is simply a shame. same goes for the beach clubs. they used to be simple chiringuitos where you got good fish or paellas at decent prices. not cheap, but no rip-off. now you've got VIP tables even there and that is just ridiculous.

Nail on head

Completely agree. That's why I love going in early Spring or late Autumn when I can explore the true beauty of the island without any pesky clubs getting in the way!
