The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

1. it's obviously too early to tell what this place will be like
2. but it's fair to assume there probably won't be too many surprises eg the usual branding/marketing/merchandising everywhere, elevated dj platforms, LED overload, novelty/gimmicks - as it seems these are all required features of any disco these days
3. the music probably won't be cutting edge on most nights - certainly not when there's big bucks involved, which demand an instant return. there will probably be some attempt to accomodate both sweaty clubbers and VIP groups
4. the crowd will probably be very young and therefore probably won't really be pitched at people like me
5. and it will probably prove extremely popular but will struggle to match the cult status of famous clubs which developed more organically over the decades.

As much as I hate the majority of what Ushuaia stands for, it is possible to have a great night there on the right occasion. La Familia there for example was a fantastic party - brilliant music, great crowd and dancing in the open air. I was also at the opening and closing last season and again both were excellent.

If Ushuaia do secure some good underground nights, don't mess around with the foundations of the club too much and don't go overboard with the VIP side of things, then I don't see a reason that I wouldn't attend. Although I do understand this is highly unlikely, at least regarding VIP's :D

However, we do need to face the facts. It isn't Space. It won't ever be Space. I loved that club as much as the rest and I will never forget some of the incredible nights I had in there...but I feel like we at least need to be open minded and see how things go for the first few years before completely writing the club off.

of course. at last year's IMS yann actually said it's gonna have more VIP than space used to have so that's something we already know (and simply will have to live with). I've obviously heard lots of rumors about how it'll look inside, what will happen on the roof etc, but for now I'll just wait and see how it turns out. from a musical point of view I know that I probably won't be ending up going too much, but there will be some decent parties for sure.

Just watched the promo for the first time. Funny, you think a place with this type branding would've wanted to keep Elrow around.

as far as I know they tried. elrow went for amnesia though as we know.

Luciano and friends this summer?? I wonder will it be a full club takeover or a shared night like he's done before at space. Could be at least one potential cheese free night .

I do love the fact that we all (me included) are able to forget that Amnesia and Privilege have parties like Paris Hilton, numerous EDM nights and a few 'Rich Bitch' and Supermartxe parties but we push all that aside as it doesn't fit our view of the World.

Totally agree.. but the aforementioned evenings where not sat at the top of the pile of arguably Ibiza's flagship event and club

Although I understand your point, I don't think it correlates when you compare say Amnesia to Ushuaia.

If you think of Amnesia, what is the first event that springs to mind? Cocoon? MusicOn? Maybe even HYTE? It's a venue known for its flagship techno events, although it does also have a few EDM nights thrown in the mix.

From the comments I read on here it seems that I like Ushuaia more than most as I have had some great nights there (La Familia, Opening/Closing party), but you cannot deny that the majority of its flagship nights there are EDM trash - Avicii, Guetta, Garrix etc, with the exception of ANTS.

Fingers crossed they get the balance right at Hi and have more underground nights to counteract the EDM, but from the rumours floating around at the moment I fear that will not be the case - although Luciano would be a good start if that is true :D

I love Luciano; he is 100% one of my favourite DJ's and when he is on form I believe there are not many better than him.

HOWEVER; I don't think he has the pull for a full club weekly residency anymore. Unless he is playing with a number of big name guests each week, which I doubt.

Could we see this as maybe a 1 room party?

But maybe he still wants the fee of a DJ that can pull in a 20 week residency? Maybe?

Speak for yourself. I actually find it offensive that Paris hilton has her own night anywhere on the island, but it being at amnesia makes my blood boil!

Haven't been to privileged since about 1999/2000 . That's another reason we all want Ku to get a decent night.

And just because there are these shit nights on the island, doesn't mean we should encourage,or back a venue that wants sell more of this dog shit..
