Tell us how it was - Ibiza 2022

Once you’ve lost your bags on a trip to Ibiza (I have) suggest you always always carry-on enough of your favourite swim shorts, tops, T-shirts Etc to last for 3-4 days.
Well the bags were lost on the return trip so no problems there.

Dates you were there:
August 26-Aug 30 (really short visit this time because of a new home and new job. Might go again in sep/oct).

Where you stayed:
Red Hotel San An. Never stayed in San Antonio before, but my regular place in the quiet north was full so I needed a cheap alternative. But wow, San An is something else...off course i had walked over the boardwalk many times already but never have I actually slept and woken up right above the Egg. The hotel was not bad at all, but I don't think i'll ever return

Club nights visited:
People from Ibiza x La Guarida @ Cova Santa
Elrow @ Amnesia
Villa afterparty @ somehwere on the island

Best night:
This was all one evening - night - morning and day. :D so obviously the best one.

Worst night:
The first night, had a crazy delay in Amsterdam, arrived more than 4 hours later than planned in Ibiza, the car rental office was already closed, the taxi cue outside the airport was huge so I decided to overpay for a illegal driver. Got in the hotel around 03 am...and wasnt in the mood anymore to go to Pacha for Music On so that sucked. Also had to get in a cab again the next morning to go back to the airport to collect my car, it was just annoying to lose so much time in what was already a shorter visit than usual.

Best bar:
Not been in a bar.

Best place to eat:
La Paloma every time, but I also enjoyed Tapas in San Antonio.

Best beach and/or beach club:
Boathouse in San Vincence is a great place, great food and very nice people.

Money spent (for 2 of us):
Hope to get some taxi costs back from the airline, but it was a lot as always in ibiza.

Biggest regret:
I don't regret going to an afterparty, cause it's fun and an opportunity that doesn't come by very often, but I must say that after the first short night with the flight delay, then the preparty in Cova Santa and a whole night of Elrow I probably lacked some energy for this after. I did it anyway and the more we got into daytime the hotter it was so it got a little tough. The result was that I was wrecked on sunday and monday so we decided to do some other stuff than more partying.

Going back?:
No doubt!

Top tip:
Don't go in August, it's just way too busy.
Motoluis, next time when landin after midnight even sayin until 2am on friday night , they let the car (1h00am was expecting someone to give keys ) at airport open with instructions to get key
No issue to sleep hard in plane when u lack of sleep in ibz (drink a hierbas shot may help too), just ask neighbor to wake me up (when snoring too)
Friday night at ibz airport is nightmare if u dont have a car , i easyly find some random people to go to san an

Dates you were there: 20/08-25/08

Where you stayed: Vibra Tropical Garden, Figueretas. Decent enough, good location.

Club nights visited: Circoloco @ DC10, Paradise @ Amnesia

Best night: Circoloco for me, Paradise for my mate who was a first timer

Worst night: Both decent. Woke up after Paradise with some fella sitting at the table in the apartment which was a bit scary but it turned out to be a towel.

Best bar: Had a good time at Paradise Lost on the first night.

Best place to eat: Had a nice carbonara in El Local in the town on the last night. Had some tapas here or there but didn’t eat loads otherwise.

Best beach and/or beach club: Only went to Figueretas beach and strolled down to PDB one of the days.

Money spent: a lot

Biggest regret: We caned it the day we got there and into the next day. Went to take a power nap at 10pm before Solomun +1 and woke up at 4am so missed it. Ended up clubbing Mon/Weds instead of Sun/Tues as planned. Glad to go to DC-10 on the Monday but regret missing it on the Tues.

Going back?: Yeah at some stage

Top tip: Don’t get an overnight flight back if you can’t sleep on planes.

Observations and/or conclusion : Wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be for August. Very hot though so will be back in late Sept next time.
“ turned out to be a towel “ had me in stitches!

Dates you were there:
3-6th September

Where you stayed:
Ibiza Corsa Hotel & Spa, Talamanca

Club nights visited:
Pyramid and Circoloco

Best night:
Can't decide as both were entirely different nights in terms of music & experience... However Circoloco was a last minute decision and the main room was incredible. Helped with good air conditioning and room to dance!

Worst night:
Neither. But, Amnesia was just too hot. I know it's only just September but the terrace was ridiculously warm. As much as I loved Kink and Bicep (I've posted about this in the Pyramid review thread) dripping in sweat wasn't fun at all and we left as soon as Bicep finished. I've been to Amnesia a lot and this was by far the most sweaty!

Best bar:
Plaza Del Sol in the Dalt Villa does amazing cava sangria and a nice setting for an evening drink

Best place to eat:
Experimental Beach for the sunset. Food is really good and great atmosphere.

Best beach and/or beach club:
See above.

Money spent:
Around £1,200 Inc flights, hotel etc

Biggest regret:
Absolutely no regrets but probably not staying for an extra 2 nights. But, I am older and the recovery takes longer so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise

Going back?:
Absolutely... 2023 will be my 15th visit in over 14 years

Top tip:
The unplanned nights turn out to be the best

Observations and/or conclusion:
So refreshing to be back seeing the Island in full swing again. Last year's visit was very different (but got to see more of the island) but so glad to see everything back open. The atmosphere everywhere was electric and you wouldn't think the past 2 years have been the way they were.

We didn't have any issues at all with taxis. Even if the queue in Ibiza Town was long it moved quickly. Leaving clubs there was always taxis but perhaps that's because we left earlier.

I have generally always come in September, this time it was a little too early as it was still very humid at night. Next year will wait until mid month for sure.

Absolutely loved staying in Talamanca, it was easy to get the city boat in the evening to Ibiza Town and cheaper than taxis. I am definitely too old for Bossa now so will look to stay in this area again for sure!

I love reading these forums over the summer and I appreciate everyone has different tastes in music etc but as a 'veteran' it was a little disappointing not to see the likes of Cocoon anymore and that Carl Cox' residency finished in August. I found some new DJs this weekend but sometimes the classic nights are also the best.

Here's to 2023...

Pyramid and Circoloco

Best night:
Can't decide as both were entirely different nights in terms of music & experience... However Circoloco was a last minute decision and the main room was incredible. Helped with good air conditioning and room to dance!
I've got these nights penciled in myself (also an older clubber...sorry veteran!) can you elaborate how they were so different?

These two nights would always be my choice (also older.....).
Amnesia for me, especially at a night like Pyramid, always feels like a real Ibiza clubbing experience - the scale, the buzz as you arrive and, at Pyramid, some veteran Ibiza Amnesia friendly DJs (Luciano, Villalobos, Sven) all just make the experience.
I've always loved Circoloco, especially in its more crazy daytime days when the place had the whole sit-down thing going on and it was full of people passing round random inflatables. It's crazy busy now but it's still a real come and dance rather than be seen club still (just). Also, although the set times are really too short, it sometimes means you get the DJs just getting right on with it.
You'll have loads of fun at both i reckon.

Dates you were there:
Sept 3-9th

Where you stayed:
1st night at Hotel Figueretas as Torre Del Mar was full. Was decent enough for 1 star. Great location. Sea view. Friendly staff. No air con though. Torre Del Mar for the remainder. Not a single complaint about this place. It’s by far a party hotel. A mix of old and young people and a fair amount of English. Nice and relaxing throughout the day if that’s what you’re after. Stunning location and design. Breakfast until 11am which is useful.

The food during the day has a high price tag for what it is but I guess that’s Ibiza in general. Had the bathtub on the terrace room which was amazing.

Club nights visited:
SAT - Amnesia. SUN - Ushuaia, Hi, Pacha. MON - DC10. WED - Hi, Amnesia. THUR - Cova Santa.

SAT - Elrow @ Amnesia - mainly for the misses as she’s never been. Actually had a really good night. Arrived at midnight and pleasantly busy. Had a good spot right at the front. The carnage started around 01.45. Once the first show stopped tried to go to the toilet and wow was it busy. Second show started around 3am and we had our spot back. Surprisingly the front right corner at the barriers always stayed nicely packed until we left. I think people forget about going to the front when the rest of the room is so busy. At the entrance to the main room it was like sardines and you moved literally 1ft every 30 seconds with drinks being spilled on you. Was absolutely ridiculous and dangerous. Saw Kolsch for a little while in the main but certainly the terrace was where’s its at. Left at 03.45 as wanted to pace ourselves for the busy week ahead.

SUN - Bodzin @ Ushuaia - big fan for years. Never fails to deliver. Really was an amazing 2 hours. Secured a good spot right at the front of the barriers. Unfortunately the volume was extremely low. Ear plugs were not needed which was nice but you could hear conversations and couldn’t feel the bass. Co2 cannons completely deafened the music. How do they get away with this being ‘one of the best clubs in the world’. Surely sound quality is one of the most important qualities. Stayed for Kalkbrenner who put on a good show but not a huge fan of his mixing style and music. The misses was loving it though. Closed at 11pm.

SUN - Glitterbox @ Hi - we had guest list so went as soon as it opened. Was loving the atmosphere in there but we couldn’t get into the music. Just wasn’t hard enough for us. I’m still glad we went just to see what it’s all about. Bailed to Solomun about 1am.

SUN - Solomun @ Pacha - €80 on the door! Wow packed. A mixed crowd. Some people for the music some people just to get a photo of Solomon! Trance Wax before were very average. Leading up to Solomon at 02.30, it got busier and busier by the minute. We were right at the front below the decks and everyone was pushing towards the front and trying to get closer. Not enjoyable experience when you're trying to dance. Loads of phones above my head recording, again not that enjoyable. The first tracks of Solomon were okay but suddenly I had a real funny turn and had to pull me and misses out the club. Realised who I was again in the cab. Gutted didn’t stay longer left around 3. Can't really give a real review leaving that early but up until 3am it was nothing special. I wouldn't go again on that experience. Maybe there are better spots on the dance floor but certainly the front isn’t one of them when it’s that busy. I’m not sure if it’s Pacha or Solomun but the crowd it attracts is not my favourite. Far from the Diynamic crowd you used to get in Sankeys.

MON - Circoloco. Was meant to be a day off but Agents of Time were added last minute to the line up. Last time I was at Circoloco 6 years ago I promised I wouldn’t go again due to the crowds and the music played on the night. Maybe i've changed a lot since then but it was absolutely banging in there!

Got in at 9.30pm. Good busy. Amazing crowd - so much better compared so Solomon. Everyone dancing hard on the terrace. It’s was seriously pumping in there. Loud! Ear plugs recommend. Great sound. Absolutely loving the terrace. Not my absolute favourite music in the world but the atmosphere was just absolutely having it. Left at midnight to see Agents of Time in the main room who played until 2am. Less busy than the terrace but good busy. Great sound, amazing set. Packed out more throughout their set. Possibly our favourite night yet. Left after their set - was just too knackered. Was really starting to pack out around this time.

TUE - A day off. Hired a boat for the day. Lovely.

WED - Fisher @ Hi. Went for Vintage Culture. Got there at 12ish and was packing out already. Was in the theatre until Vintage Culture came on at 01.30. We couldn’t really get into it. Maybe it was the crowd or the 10 course meal we had just eaten at La Gaia. I guess that’s the crowd that Fisher attracts. Young (maybe I’m old), lots of people shouting at the DJ saying hello waving a bright torch in his face (he’s trying to DJ!) and didn’t feel there were many music lovers. We stayed for 30 minutes of his set but decided to bail to Paradise as had guest list there.

WED - Paradise @ Amnesia. S**t the guest list que was big at Amnesia. Took us 30 minutes to get in so entered just after JJ and MB we’re playing b2b on the terrace. Wow the terrace was busy. Hard to move around at all even around the sides and back of the room. We managed to get right near the speaker but also where everyone uses as the walkway. Wasn’t that enjoyable. Music wasn’t really going anywhere. Onto the main room where you could find much more space to dance. Stayed for while then back to the terrace. We pushed our way to the front this time and this is where it’s all happening. Yes it was shoulder to shoulder couldn’t dance properly but the atmosphere was absolutely having it. It’s a real shame the music didn’t really go anywhere for me right up until 05.50 when we left. If a few bangers were played during this time the floor would have completely lost it with that crowd and atmosphere.

THUR - ADID @ Cova Santa. As you can expect we were both not our freshest. Arrived at 8pm. Dance floor was pretty empty. It’s the first time I’ve been to Cova Santa and what a venue. Dance floor filled up nicely over the next hour. It was an older crowd with good vibes all around. Never too busy on the dance floor. We danced it out until 11pm and then needed a sit down. It’s a real shame Lee Burridge wasn’t playing this night. It’s a bit cheeky IMO that he’s not there on several dates over the summer. Your pretty much guaranteed to get the main guy at most other nights on the island like Music On, Paradise, Afterlife etc. Roy Rosenfield was b2b with Leger and up until we left at 11pm it never really took off but it was still good. Pippi Ciez was playing in the nightclub from when it opened so waited for that. He started around 23.30 and was playing some bangers and a bit quicker than outside which was nice. It started to fill out at 23.45 so assuming that’s when the outdoor closed. It was really good vibe in there apart from a few very very drunk people who looked like they had had dinner reservations upstairs and then came down to the club. They were falling all over the place and dropping drinks etc. We left at 01.00 after a nice dance but needed a good sleep before out flight the next day.

Best night:
Between Bodzin and surprisingly Circoloco!

Worst night:
Never ever thought I’d say this but Solomun. Only from my experience - judge for yourself!

Best bar:
Only went to a couple but La Esquinita del Sol in Dalt Villa was has very pretty outside seating under trees.

Best place to eat:
La Gaia Michelin star. Great service as you would expect. Got stung with wine. Didn’t want to drink too much as we were driving. A bottle of wine starts at €35 and one glass is €15 (which they don’t tell you) and we had 4 small glasses.

Best beach and/or beach club:
Didn’t go to any.

Money spent:
Don’t want to know. Hotels 2.7k the rest you can guess!

Biggest regret:
We both caught a bug on the last day and was dying the whole journey home. Covid tests are negative though!

Going back?:
Stag do in May 🙈

Top tip: always best to be as fresh as possible when going out. Multiple days in a row is sometimes not the best idea. No matter what you do, you can’t get rid of that knackered feeling sometimes which ruins the night out.

Pick a decent spot for the night and take turns going to the toilet and getting drinks. Realised this trip a good spot on the dance floor makes all the difference when clubs are this busy.

Observations and/or conclusion:
Ibiza has definitely changed since I first visited in 2008 and again in 2013. But I guess that what happens every decade. For better or for worse, that’s down to preference. I remember last time I visited every taxi and bar was playing good music, clubs opened in till daylight, and much more of a ‘music lovers’ vibe. We walked along Figueretas one evening and not a single bar was playing house music in fact no music was playing anywhere! We had an amazing week despite the crowds and can’t wait for our next visit :)

Re:Ushuaia and sound.

We found right at front you are in a sound shadow type thing.

Where as a bit further back the sound stage is better. We usually favour back behind the pool in centre near the technicans booth. (less of a crush usually too! 😆)

Not surprised at the el row situation - They have been dangerously over selling it since it started at amnesia - one of the reasons I don't go any more, a shame as it's a great spectacle but the idea of being squashed in like sardines and unable to actually dance just doesn't do it for me! Glad you had a great time on the island though - shame about the bug, hope the recovery was swift!

During the second act'2 to Ibiza for this summer 22 an "Ibizenco" told to me :

- Price grow up to 20% next summer for the Hotels and AppartHotels.

Another "Ibizenco" told to me :

Accommodation prices seem to be crazy this year yet if people are still paying the inflated prices than why wouldn’t they charge it. Torre del Mar was completely sold out when we were there in September and again in August. The cheapest room is around €250/night.

I can’t see many people paying even more than they did this season but who knows!

I hope so, need to keep the riffraff out.

Dates you were there:
Sep 9-11th...quick in and out job for a wedding

Where you stayed:
Alua Hawai...not really stayed in this part of San An before - hotel was good, rooms were smart and modern and decent brekkie all you can eat job. Pool area wasn't much but didn't spend loads of time there. Wasn't dirt cheap but didn't break the bank. Just needed a solid base for all the wedding stuff and somewhere close enough for the airport etc as we were in late and out early.

Club nights visited:
Only managed Heshethey at Amnesia...had been a long day by the time we got there and had the wedding the next day so was only there a few hours but it was busier than I feared and Midland was playing and was on really good form. Terrace was curtained off half but probably was for the best. Crowd was an interesting mix...mates who stayed didn't rate Ben Klock but overall it was nice to be back at Amnesia - first time in an Ibiza club since Cocoon closing in 2019!

Best night:
The wedding! Gorgeous day, lots of close friends and an amazing venue!

Worst night:
Thursday on the way out - horrifically delayed getting out there - theme of the summer!

Best bar:
Pre wedding drinks at Khumaras on the Friday night - first time I had been there..great view of the sunset, music was decent enough and drinks were reasonable. Also had some friends staying at Hostal La Torre so managed a quick one there, gorgeous views and service was good - was well before sunset so would like to do it again properly.

Best place to eat:
Had lunch at cala gracioneta on the Friday - pricey but the food and cocktails were high quality and the service was friendly and attentive. Would go there again it was a good spot for an occasion.

Best beach and/or beach club:
Didn't get a chance - wanted to have a proper swim at Gracioneta but spent too long at the table and then had to dash off somewhere else.

Money spent:
Hotel was in the region of £500 and probably did the same in spends.

Biggest regret:
Not staying for Sunday/Monday...would have liked to see Harvey at Pikes especially and get a proper beach day in. Oldest was starting school so had to race back on the Sunday. Great 2 dayer though!

Going back?:
Yes...my 40th and wife's as well next year so I expect there will be at least 2 longer trips.

Top tip:
Always try somewhere new

Observations and/or conclusion:
Just great to be back and see everything firing on all cylinders!
