Tell us how it was - Ibiza 2019

Yes Irvine Welsh plays under the name Klaus Blatter. Has also released some stuff under that name.
....if only we'd known that before we spent the night partying with him and a bunch of others in our room, discussing this mysterious German pornstar/DJ that was playing the following day and whether he was any good or not ? . My German friend even claimed to have heard of Klaus Blatter the pornstar, and when she found an interview with him on YouTube said he spoke shocking English with a thick German accent! ?

Arrived on the 10th September and left on the 18th, 8 nights all up. Regret not booking a few more nights as the weather was quite bad for most of the time we were there. Calmed down on the day we were leaving. But shit happens.

Stayed in Playa Den Bossa, The New Algarb. Only wanted a bed to sleep in with some comfort. Aircon barely worked and the bathrooms are fkn rubbish. Nearly slipped and cracked my head a few times as they are shower/bath combo. When you open the sliding door to access, you have to awkwardly step onto the curve of the bath. Most nights i popped in earplugs and left the balcony door open for sea breeze. Worked nicely.

Nights Visited: Tuesday 10th/Bodyworks, Friday 13th/Shadows Closing Party, Monday 16th/Cocoon

Best Night: This is a huge toss up between Shadows and Cocoon, both blew my expectations out of the water. I love Amnesia, the feel of the place just makes me seem at home. Cova Santa had a similar feel, the outdoor vibe and just everyone dancing was fabulous. Magdalena was killing the decks. Until of course the rain set in. We were able to hide from the rain for a short while, the bar area next to the stairs down to the toilet/club area. Made a mad dash after 10mins or so but got completely soaked still, my partner wasn't enjoying wet shoes/messy hair etc. Killed the night for her. But i kept on going. Everything moved down into the club, man it was humid. Sweating like crazy and certain other things made me overheat. Once we caught the bus to continue on at Amnesia my excitement hit peak level. Solomun was amazing! Everyone was just dancing, plenty of room to groove, not many phones and just great tunes. I was dancing like a mad man, we finished up around 2am. I would've kept going until close but cant please myself only. 9/10

Cocoon is just a plain 10/10 for me, we arrived around 12.30 and were there as the terrace filled. Plenty of room to dance and just let loose. Spent most of our time over by the Stairs that access the VIP area. Next to the bar/womens loo etc. The build up by Sven was fricken epic, seeing his Mum in the booth and his bro dancing in front is something i will never forget. Everyone was just vibing and wanted to dance and go crazy. This is why i made it over... Amazing. Bailed around 4.30am.

Worst Night: My partner really wanted to see Fisher, it was the night we arrived. After 40+ hrs of travel i was hanging by a thread. Pre arranged a few things which put me in the mood. Headed out to Dunes for a couple of pre drinks around 11pm. Grabbed the tickets there instead of door prices. Rocked into Hi Ibiza around 1pm. Ok... so a few things of changed. Style is a big one. I have never in my life see so many bums. I'm not complaining but wow! Fishnet dresses with G strings everywhere. Definitely wasn't our style as there was a lot of younger crowd running around doing young things. Music wise Camelphat/Solardo killed it. Popped in to see Fisher, way to crowded and his tunes were Ok. The whole feel of the nightclub didn't vibe with me or my Partner at all. Like many have said, it feels like people are constantly moving around. Being able to dance is nearly impossible and the phones were a joke, basically 80% of people were filming most of the time. 4/10

Best Bar:
Didnt do to many bars tbh, im not a huge drinker. But Dunes had a nice feel.

Best place to eat: Most nights we walked around Playa Den Bossa and just picked a different spot to eat. Nothing to write home about. One place which was fairly nice. San Antoni - La Cantina, couldn't fault the meal here. Great portion for the price also.

Money spent: Sheesh... Ok, so trekkin over from Australia. This was quite an expensive trip, around $6500aud, for flights, accom, car hire and spending money.

Biggest regret: Not staying out to close on both Shadows and Cocoon.

Going back?: Will be sooner the 12yrs ill tell you that much. Hopefully 2021 or even next year if possible. But 2021 is more likely.

Top tip: Hire a car or scooter. Being able to trek around is amazing. Saw so much more of the isle this time, easily tops my first trip over by quite a bit. I used Hiper rent a car as the prices were under Moto Luis and others. Got full insurance, luckily i did as someone caved in the rear bumper of my hire car while parked up at a Suma deli.

Also if you get a chance head out to Es Canar for the Hippie Market, great selection of stuff to buy. The had some rocking live music on while we were there. Playing all sorts of older hits, great atmosphere.
nice review, i like the phrase:....... as there was a lot of younger crowd running around doing young things :D

Haha a classic mate! Were you there at Pikes when I played? We were and it was an incredible night, the Cockney chap Steve down on the bill as Sven Larsson I think? Was decent as well.

Ended up absolutely off my pickle in the chap Sunny's "boudoir" until 8am. Not just me and him to clarify!

Dates you were there:
Friday Sept 27th till Monday 30th. A short third trip this year after a march wintertrip and a week in June.

Where you stayed:
Our regular place in St. Agnes de Corona. We like to stay in a calm restful place.

Club nights visited:
Drift at Blue Marlin on frida
Elrow Closing on saturday
Zoo Project on sunday

Best night:
Cliche, but Elrow. It was amazing. We got at Amnesia around 23.30 and because we had some people to meet & greet outside it took us an hour to get inside the terrace. The new theme, designed by the artist Okuda, is really fresh, colorful and different. Check our instagram (same name) or just Elrow's pics on socials to see what I mean. Toni Varga warmed the place up a bit but by the time Paco Osuna took the stage the terrace was impossible to move though. We were lucky we were able to go to the balcony. Paco Osuna really is another level, his music combined with the show and elrow production was top notch. We stayed until the very end to have some talks with people we know. I cannot say how, but we got to go to the afterparty and that was something else. A first time for us, really special. Stayed there until dinner time because we wanted to grab some food and try to do Zoo Project after all. One thing is for sure, we will never forget this night and the day after.

Worst night:
Not really the worst night, because Zoo is always, but we were too tired to really enjoy it. We tried though. We actually had the most fun in the living room where we met up with Eli Rojas, super enthousiast and warm person. Seal Pit was okay, Tree house was boring.
If we were to rank the nights it would be Elrow on 1, Drift on 2 (I wrote a short Drift review in the Blue Marlin topic) and Zoo 3 but that doesn't mean Zoo was bad. Zoo is actually always fun. One thing about Benimussa Park though....it seems to have caught the attention of the Gaurdia Civil.
In June everyone was checked for alcohol by the GC when we left around 2.30. This time we got checked when we arrived. Two GC vans were patrolling the parking area and we were approached quite aggressively. A guy asked for our ID's and asked if he could check the car for drugs. More cars were being checked and people bodies/clothes were searched too. Luckily they didn't search our clothes.... ;-) Perhaps they only do that when they find something in your car first?

Best sunset:
Sunset Ashram! We saw what might have been the most beautiful sunset ever. It went from deep orange to purple to red.
Food is also not bad there.

Best place to eat:
We loved Experimental Beach. It's a rough drive past the salt mountains of Las Salinas but the view is extraordinary and the food is really good.

Money spent:
It's always a lot, but im not looking back. If an ibiza trip means my budget is tight for the rest of the month...so be it.

Biggest regret:
Not having booked another night so I could have gone to the Cocoon closing yesterday.
If it wasn't for the Elrow after we would have gone to Solomun + Luciano but I have no regrets at all. I wouldn't change anything about this trip and the choices we made, it was perfect.I wanted to meet more Spotlighters. Had a brief chat with the Pirate and a few of the people in the closing whatsappgroup though :)

Going back?:
Always. Booked for June 2020 already...and looking at a wintertrip just like this year. Looks like march again.

Top tip:
If you're ever invited to an afterparty, make sure you have some stuff with you like sunscreen, fresh clothes, sunglasses, perhaps some food and a solid plan how you're gonna survive the day ;-)

Dates you were there:
20th - 29th September

Where you stayed:
A friends house in Santa Eulalia, then Can Beia Hostal Boutique in San Antonio

Can Beia was actually perfect for us really, so thank you to those from the forum who recommended it. Nice and quiet, we had a 5th floor room at the end of the corridor so no lift noises or people walking past. Rooms were large enough and bathrooms were clean and modern, and the price point was perfect.

Club nights visited:
Elrow @ Amnesia
Tales of the Unexpected @ Pikes
DJ EZ @ Ibiza Rocks
Cuckoo Land @ Ibiza Rocks

Best night:
Elrow/Pikes - Unfortunately Matt isn't a night-time clubber, so I only managed to drag him out to one night. I like the big-room stuff so that being the only one we did put it at the top for me. Elrow was great as we got there relatively early (I think around 1) and managed to have some space to dance at the back of the room before it got too rammed. The music was fun and we waited downstairs for one confetti explosion before heading up to the balcony for a while. We pre-purchased the drinks tickets, which were accepted at every bar that we went to.

Pikes was great for obvious reasons. Following on from Sunday Roast we went through to the sunset garden/terrace area and our group nabbed a couple of big beds and a bunch of chairs and basically stayed there until 2ish! The new bar out there is a perfect addition, and the crowds there are always fab. Though we watched one groups of 'worker lads' walk through the garden area past us saying "does this place get good then?" - at that point I wanted to hit them square in the face with a mirror ball. :spank:

I'm not an EZ fan but Matt is, and we know Kirby and Pat Nazemi and that was the last day they were playing together so we headed over for some fun. Super luckily for us, we were spotted on our way down to the pool area and dragged straight onto the artists balcony with a bottle of rum from the DJs so we watched the show from there  The music (and crowd) is not my scene at all so I felt very lucky to be on the balcon

Cuckoo Land is more my scene musically, but the crowd was just completely f***ed from the moment we got in there (which was around 5pm). One of the people we know calls it 'Ket-coo Land' and we definitely saw why! But, I'm a fan of the music policy so we plonked ourself at the back and had a dance for a few hours before grabbing a late dinner down at Fresh.

Worst night:
Either of the Ibiza Rocks ones I guess, but they weren't terrrrible.

Best bar:
I'm a sucker for Ibiza Rocks Bar (hellooooo Pitta and a Daquiri), but for this trip I would say that Buddha in Santa Eulalia suprised me. Mainly because the decor is SO terrible, but the cocktails and shisha were pretty good!

Best place to eat:
Actually forgot to mention in my restaurant thread, we went to Kathmandu on restaurant street in Santa Eulalia. The food was SO GOOD and those Naans were absolutely freakin' massive! Obviously love Tapas in San An too and we did that on the last night which was lovely :)

Money spent:
Oh god I have no clue and I don't want to know

Biggest regret:
Not going to more actual club nights, though it would have been on my own

Going back?:
Obvs. Booked for 29th May - 6th June next year for hols.
Then we'll actually be moving there next July/August for good!

Top tip:
Go somewhere new each time. Don't keep going back to the same places!!

Though we watched one groups of 'worker lads' walk through the garden area past us saying "does this place get good then?" - at that point I wanted to hit them square in the face with a mirror ball. :spank:

we were really lucky this time at pikes. pretty much a twat-free zone. it is luck of the draw though...

Having said that, I barely ventured outside in 5 hours! There could've been a war on - I wouldn't have known.

Congratulations on the plans!

We will be back while you are there May/ June (with babysitters this time), maybe we can add you guys to the IRL list while at Pikes.

Great review and great trip mate. Experimentale Beach (French owners) is on my TDL since a while. How is the beach and water quality? Was it packed? DJ loud?

It's not really a beach since there are rocks all over. But they made a floating rubber bridge from the beach into the ocean so you can swim anyway. I didn't go for a swim. My advise, don't go there for a beach day...go there for some drinks and food at the restaurant, the view, climbing some rocks to find some hidden small caves / bays. Maybe see the pelicans (edit: FLAMINGO'S) ? in the salt lakes. Or take a sunbed there off course. No loud dj when we were there, just some chill balearic stuff.

It's right at the edge of Cap d'es Falco, the steep hilly area to the South within the National Park of ses Salines, with the salt lakes and the pebbly beach of Cala Codolar to the North. It's a very unique and naturally significant location. If it wasn't already built I'm almost certain you would not be allowed to build it there now. Noise levels are never high because of the disturbance it would cause to adjacent protected environment.

Dates you were there:

28/9 - 2/10

Where you stayed:

Mitjorn San An

Club nights visited:

Artwork at Pikes
Harvey at Pikes
Cocoon closing

Best night:

Cocoon closing, Sven smashed it

Worst night:

Not really the worst night but Harvey was far too busy to enjoy the dance floor. Enjoyed chilling with a bottle of wine in the garden pre cocoon though

Best bar:

The aquarium bar between Cala Gracio and San An. So chilled down there and lovely to watch the world go by, especially for sunset.

Best place to eat:

The Fish Shack, Talamanca

Money spent:

Haven’t checked yet ?

Biggest regret:

Going to sleep after Cocoon, just couldn’t get going again after I woke which resulted in a chilled night and us missing the Cocoon afters ?

Going back?:

f*** aye!

Top tip:

If you have day party to attend after a late finish the night before, stay up!

Hire a car and explore the Island a bit.

Enjoy every minute as it always goes too quick.

This!
It definitely works better than sleeping a few hours. Restarting your whole body is worse than keeping it going (with a little added fuel maybe..)

Sometimes I’m okay after a bit of sleep, but yesterday post sleep nothing was working so a night down Mambo and food in David’s was about all I could manage.

Really gutted I missed the afters especially after seeing some of the pics and reading about it on here - the only blessing was flying home today wasn’t too bad compared to the usual mess I’m in.

Dates you were there: Monday 16th September to Tuesday 1st October 2019 (15 nights in total, 5 with mates , 10 with the wife).

Where you stayed: Ibiza Sun Apartments - Playa d’en Bossa (5 nights), Sol Beach House – Santa Eulalia (7 nights) and Ibiza Gran – Ibiza Town (3 nights). All excellent and would stay there again.

Club nights visited: Circo Loco @ DC10, Craig David @ Ibiza Rocks , Choose Love @ Pikes, Paradise @ DC10, Rhadoo @ Underground, and One Night Stand @ DC10.

Best nights: Can I choose 2? ....

Circo Loco @ DC10. Being our first night and everyone on ‘first night form’ was brilliant, especially the 2 who were Ibiza Virgins. The Martinez Brothers were great also.

Choose Love @ Pikes. Never really enjoyed Denis Sulta the time I seen him before, but thought him and Mella Dee were excellent on the night. Really enjoyable night. Only thing that spoiled it ever so slightly was the amount of people taking videos, especially the ones with the flashlight on.

Should also mention Rhadoo @ Underground. Was having such a good night in there, everyone else had left apart from 2 of us. Genuinely gutted when the music went off at 6am.

Worst 'Least' best night: Another 2 to choose, but they weren’t bad nights as such….

Craig David @ Ibiza Rocks. Not really my cup of tea, but a few of the group wanted to go. We booked the ‘Rockstar Apartment’ for the night, was only a few more Euros than a Standard Ticket, and less than booking VIP. So was handy for the few of us to watch from afar and have our own toilet and fridge full of cheap drink, while the others went down to the party. Also the in-room speaker packed a punch, so was good for a pre-Pikes warm up. :)

Paradise @ DC10 - I was loving life when we were in the garden early on, but all of a sudden (around 1-2am from memory) it got way too busy and it became a bit of a struggle. Maybe being out the previous two nights were catching up with us.

Best bar: Number 5 (Ibiza Town), Calma (Marina Botafoch), Queen Victoria and CBBC (Santa Eulalia).

Best place to eat: Loads of nice places, but my favorites were Ca Na Ribes, Project Social (Santa Eulalia), Pom Thai (San Antonio), La Solera (Ibiza Town) and as always every time I go, On the Beach (Cala San Vincente).

Money spent: Enough. Managed to get good daytime flights with BA for £184. Also booked Ibiza Sun Apartment for £256 (per person) for the 5 days which I thought was a bargain considering some of the prices out there.

Biggest regret: Not going to Sa Trinxa, it will just have to be added to our list for next time.

Going back?: Booked for May Half Term 2020 with the wife and daughter, and no doubt another few days at some point later in the summer with a few mates.

Top tip:
  • The Hierbas Workshop with The Drink Workshop @ Soul Good (Niu Blau) was excellent. Really informative and a good laugh with the other people sampling some different kinds of Hierbas. Looking forward to opening up my own Hierbas in 3 months.
  • Star Boats - done this twice over the 2 weeks. Bit of cliff jumping near Cala Bassa, swimming in the blue seas around Cala Comte. Then watching sunset anchored just in front of Café Mambo.
  • Walk up to Sa Creu d’en Ribes, you get some amazing views over Santa Eulalia.
  • If you’re planning a few visits to the beach, download the ‘Medusas Ibiza’ app to check the Jelly Fish situation.

Am a bit late with this but here goes...

Dates you were there: September 7-14th

Where you stayed: 5 nights in Ibiza Town, 2 nights in 7Pines

Club nights visited: Just the one - Mercury Rising @ Pikes. We’d only ever planned to do one, maybe two nights for this holiday as wanted a more relaxed trip. I’d booked us in at the restaurant months before, even before they’d announced Harvey’s residency for this year (cheers to the forum for the heads up!). Just a fantastic evening all round really. The food was superb as usual and the crowd, music (I’ll try and stick some of the tracks in the Pikes thread) and vibe were just fantastic. Reminded me of when I first started going out – conversations with strangers, everyone happy and smiley. It was very, very busy but didn’t seem quite as rammed as a Saturday night I’d done at Pikes in previous years.

Best night: Surprisingly it was Mercury Rising! I can’t imagine if we’d done anything else then it would have topped this.

Worst night: No bad club nights so it's a toss-up between the nights of September 11th and September 13th (all day and night ) cos of the storms and rain being just terrible. I’ve always been very lucky in September. Not so much this year. A shame as it ruined the only full day we had at 7Pines.

Best bar: We really enjoyed evening drinks at Plaça del Parc. I couldn’t pick a specific bar as there's several to choose from and so it wouldn't really be the bar but rather the location. It’s just a really lovely place to sit with a gin and chat and watch the world go by.

Best place to eat: We didn’t manage to hit anywhere near all of the places that I had in mind before we went, simply not enough time! Most enjoyable meals were probably between Sushi Aoyama and Sa Trinxa. Sa Trinxa probably just nicks it as the octopus I had just completely hit the spot in terms of sorting out my hangover following a bar crawl round the town the night before!

Have to say the food at 7Pines was fantastic too, particularly the pool bar. We’d stayed at the Hacienda na Xamena in previous years and been disappointed with the food there so this was a relief.

Another of my favourites was a simple ham & cheese bocadillo from Viandas that we picked up and ate at the beach one day. Absolutely delicious and something like €5. Genuinely enjoyed that as much as some meals where we spent over 10x the amount!

Money spent: Hotel and flights came in at £1,700 (for 2). 7Pines for two nights was near enough the same as the accommodation for the 5 nights in the town. Spending money was about the same again between us.

Biggest regret: As I mentioned, I always go with a list of places I want to try but when you’re there the days just go by and there just isn’t enough time! For a few of the beach days we ended up just going to Talamanca as it’s so close and so easy. So yeah – not seeing some new beaches and restaurants (again!)

Going back?: Depends on our personal situation but maybe not next year, but we’ll definitely be back at some point in the future.

Top tips: Other than the usual hire a car then I’d say:
  • get to Sa Trinxa early if you want a sun lounger (we were there at 1030 and got a few of the last ones). When you’re there early then you get to see how it all warms up and gets going through the day. A lovely lovely place.
  • If heading to Formentera then the e-bikes are brilliant fun and enable you to see a lot in one day. They were €20 for the day.
  • You can park for free at the Ikea car park and it's only a 10 minute walk to the port
  • Take your time on the soundclouds!

Dates you were there:

27/09 – 02/10

Where you stayed:

Gran Sol, San An

Club nights visited:

Artwork at Pikes
Zoo Project – Mathias Kaden SUPERB
Cocoon After Party – I saw several members off this board in Benimussa, including the Pirate and Stivi, but let’s just say I was in the biggest ‘hole’ I’ve ever been in so couldn’t bare to talk to anyone. It was horrendous. Fortunately I did come out of it but the moment to ‘meet and greet’ had gone.

Best night:

Pikes. I wrote an earlier post about a very random incident in there with drag act. The soundsystem and tunes were spot on all night. Loved this place and met some great people in there. I wish I’d gone years ago and do feel like a sheep following the crowd here.

Worst night:

Monday when I was too twisted to make it to Circo which we normally shape the trip around.

Best bar:

Tamesis because I love sport and those massive pitchers they do.

Best place to eat:

Japanese/Peruvian place – can’t remember the name but it’s opposite the childrens playground. Basically first place you hit when you come out of the West End on the left.

Money spent:

£900 – lowest amount I’ve ever spent there

Biggest regret:

Not making it to Circo or doing the boat trip we had planned. This was trip number 7 so will have wait until next year before finally making the pilgrimage to Es Vedra.

Going back?:

Might be a fallow year next year but will never stop going to Ibiza. Either way we are staying in Pikes next time!

Top tip:

Don’t draw any money out before you go. This helped me stop overspending.

I can’t believe how good I feel right now. I was even back in work the next day. I normally don’t even venture on this board for a good while upon my return. It’s almost like I’ve cheated because I’ve never felt this great coming back from Ibiza. Now you may say perhaps you didn’t hit as hard but believe me we did. I was just in a good place physically and mentally before I went and have lots to look forward to seeing the year out.
