Teachers

I think some confuse moaning with being organised against governments that want to put increasing pressure on them. There are a lot of things teachers have to deal with in their job besides just teaching. But it's easier to do down the job of teaching than criticise parents, wider society, etc.

I think the profession of teaching should be held in the highest regard, I just wish more teachers thought the same way.

Teachers commenting negatively on FB about classes they teach or rejoicing about the school being shut doesn't really engender confidence.

The lack of self awareness on some of these FB status is quite shocking.

If you haven't seen similar FB updates, good for you. But it's clearly not isolated given the number of people who've also mentioned it.

I bet any teacher worth their salt would also be shocked at these sort of updates and they wouldn't feel compelled to defend themselves.

But I'll put this caveat in here to keep all the teachers' defenders happy: "It goes with out saying that not all teachers are like this and all teachers you know personally are paragons of virtue and beyond reproach"

i think its one of those funny ones that no side of an argument will win / pursuade the other side. both sides of the argument are valid and both have outstanding circumstances. I cant agree with what buckley is saying on this topic but then again both my parents were teachers so its not exactly a middle ground where im coming from.
Its all abit tongue n cheek but it def ruffles my feathers abit

My mum was a teacher and he is coming across as a pompous bore who is trying to wind people up by using his facebook friends as a barometer for all thats bad in the world. Considering the amount of time he has spent on here over the years talking crap during the time he is supposedly at work, it's a bit rich to complain about others dossing.

I think because your Mummy was a teacher you're taking this issue too personally and are now hurling personal insults at another poster because you disagree with them.

Stop being so aggressive, it's not neccessary.

I think people are seriously barking up the wrong tree with the FB stuff. I know I'd be boasting if I got a day off work due to snow, and I expect many FB friends would be too! Not the teachers' faults if the head decides to close the school (and you can be sure the teachers will have to play catch up with lessons).

wow , who's that aimed at? FIIIIIIGHHHHT! (pref on a snowday hhaha)!!

If we have a day off due to extenuating circumstances where your not ill, shouldn't they be able to post about it?

Can you not be committed to a job as a teacher and also enjoy snow days when they occur?

I enjoy a day off holiday, weather, or other reason. It does not mean I'm less committed it just mean I enjoy a day off. The same could be said of people who boast/ share holiday pictures?

In isolation, enjoying or commenting on having day off wouldn't raise any eyebrows. In conjunction with the most vociferous members of your profession making loads of noise about being overworked while having three months off a year, however, it's worthy a comment.

So 'my mum's a teacher and she's great' is your argument?

I don't get it either... I often overhear or see people slating doctor's receptionists on social media. Hell, I have even have greviances with a few myself in the past. But I don't see somebody moaning about them and immediately feel the need to leap to their defence just because it's the job my Mum happens to do.

Can someone please arrange some crappy reality TV show where Buckers has to do a teacher training course before teaching classes of 20 - 30 teenagers?

Nope. I brought my mum into it as an aside to Marcs post where he defended teachers because both parents did it. My mum has retired and the profession she left was nothing like the one she trained for 40 odd years ago. My general point however was that you were talking drivel and trolling. Your argument seems to be based around your Facebook friends not being "great" though. I suggest you delete the people that annoy you, that way you won't make yourself look silly when making huge sweeping statements about an entire profession based on some people you choose to interact with on Facebook. (While dossing at work yourself)

It's not me that appears annoyed.

You're comparing my work, of which you know nothing, to my opinions on actual teachers and the information they offer about their work.

The teachers I know mainly work at schools that are 'outstanding' according to their last Ofsted rating, so it surprises me that their working efforts, you believe, are so far behing that of their profession as a whole.

I don't care what you do at work. I pointed out the irony of you bitching about people having time off work because of the weather while sat on here during work hours. I'm certainly not going to go through your thousands of posts but i think we can be sure that a significant chunk of them were done while you were supposed to be "working" Your opinions on the teaching profession as a whole is misinformed nonsense apparently based on people you have on Facebook. Your opening line 8 pages ago was that it's a part time job, which is complete bollocks and again based on a few people you know. It's like people claiming that builders are all cowboys because someone their gran knows once had a duff extension built. It's clearly not true but makes for a good soundbite usually accompanied by a load of boring anecdotes and exaduration.

I have an objective opinion based on teachers I know well. You have a subjective opinion based on an (understandable) emotional attachment to a teacher.

I've admitted that 'part time job' jibe was overstating my case, in reaction to the institutionalised mindset of the teaching profession. You believe as you will - it's quite obvious to an objective eye where the truth lies.
