But that wouldn't work either, you'd get into a downward spiral as each new generation of kids learns less and less as the generation above them are less educated and less able to teach. Meaning the problem just spirals

Glad I didn't see this when it was originally posted!

My OH is a primary teacher and is usually in work for 8am (or earlier) and doesn't leave until after 6.30pm. He also usually takes work home with him most nights and works at weekends. He works extremely hard is a knackered by the weekend and definitely needs the holidays to recharge!

I can confidently say that it is definitely not a part-time job or a cushy number.
