I like the idea... I can imagine being up in the grimness of the north, dying to find somewhere where i can buy an Ushuaia pencil case for 85e but now i won't have that problem!! Big thanks go out to the marketing team at Ushuaia for this much needed new shop!

environmental pollution in ibiza a fckng nightmare this year

pretty simple:
- island is reaching its limit in terms of tourists in peak season
- also shows that the richer, the more careless... :(

there is an interview that came out on sat or sun that points out a few things in regards of how the tourism slowly gets to a limit here in peak season.

might seem a bit random but this song is a bit nostalgic, since i have not been to ibiza in a year. So - it seems things keep going downhill rather than getting better. "and the walls keep tumbling down in the city that-we-love..."

love the song!

p.s.- edit:

the united state media, living nearby here in Canada and in a city close to the u.s.a, I have come to an observation. Their media is known for being haters and exploiting hateful perspectives in order to generate ratings. Ibiza might be the courtyard for the rich but it is also inclusive of others. Maybe it is time for Vegas or some other place within the usa to pick up the pace and create a nice little vibe almost free of stress. And the problem is that now, even some Canadians are into the hating too. I can understand a good and maybe cheesy plot for a show but now the media is trying to put anything on t.v. in order to make people stay tuned to cable. I Which has dwindling viewership. And this is a very very general perspective. So excuse my generalization but I am in the right course here.

briiliant article today in the ddi regarding that nightmare called HAMMOCKS !

these bastards are almost everywhere in high season so that on certain beaches there is almost no space left in case you prefer to come with a towel.

"...
Private use of public space
Hammocks take the beaches

...
Getting to the beach and not having space for a towel is a situation
that is repeated every summer on the beaches of the island.
Users complain so, between this and the parking areas,
consider a privatization of public space.
Each beach has a maximum number of sunbeds,
a figure that, in most cases, exceeded.

...
Place a towel on the sand of the beach of Cala Bassa is a stick like a pike in Flanders feat.
This situation is repeated in most of the beaches on the island during the summer.
But in Cala Bassa it is virtually impossible. And on weekdays.
The hammocks occupy almost all the space and swimmers who are not willing to pay (most already had to pay 5 euros the almost mandatory parking as there is no space to leave the car) have no choice but to stand glued to the edge, the edge of the towel almost soak ...
This Sant Josep beach establishments and 310 authorized dealers have hammocks. However, counting one by one several times, on Monday there were 433.

To this we must add, in the case of the beach club, which installs the tables in front of the beds (double deck) so customers can eat.
These are not small side tables, but tables all the way, with space for several dishes, ice bucket, glasses ... 'are not allowed. At first there were small tables which did not pose much of a problem, but lately it seems that are occupying more and more space and is to be eradicated ...

Another case of blatant violation of hammocks number allowed
is given in Platja d'en Bossa area belonging to Sant Josep.

They are allowed 2,596 chairs, plus 77 double, ie 2,750 places.
The number is pure fiction.
On Monday at noon hammocks he had 3,435 (685 plus!).

...
Failure is triggered again in Sant Josep, on the beach of Ses Salines.
There should be no more than 490 seats divided into 310 single and 90 double deck, but remember that the City Council can swap dealers. That is, you can substitute a double hammock for two simple and these for a bed, provided they do not exceed the maximum provided large hammocks.
On Tuesday morning there were 586, almost a hundred more than the authorized.
...
No step on the shore
Most of the chairs are concentrated against the bar
s, and just before one of them was enough space for them to register with towel users. However, workers discourage bathers occupy this area treading their towels and filling them with sand every time they pass.
In another, the situation is shocking: the hammocks come almost to the shore and also in front of them are placed the pedal boats so that they do not respect the obligation to keep one step.
Users who walk along the shore have no choice but to get in the water to cross this space ...

At $2,500 per head, Sublimotion confirms Ibiza’s transformation

line of super swanky openings that have morphed Ibiza from hippie Mecca
into VIP playground.

... Forget flower-power, counterculture and dancing to bongo drums as the sun sets,
the White Isle now bobs to the beat of high-end hedonism,

... Ibiza is now a playboy party ground with a certain Las Vegas flavour.

The writing was on the wall when, five years ago,
Ibiza Marina reduced its moorings from 536 spaces to 379.

FLOWER POWER VIP

perfect summary of what´s going wrong in ibiza

gotcha icey, understand what you mean, but to be honest, this isn't a new thing at all.

pacha always does one special flower power per season (normally the second week of august), where they invite lots and lots of spanish and international celebrities (showbusiness, sportsmen, politicians, even aristocrats) to come to the party. normal people can still go to that night, absolutely no problem. and you know what, for one time, the term 'VIP' is actually correct, because the VIP areas are then actually filled with real VIPs ;)

Companies LeisureClubs and'beach clubs' accuse each other of "illegalities"Clubs Association claims that this summer "has reached the chaos" ...

The two associations representing major companies in the musical entertainment of Ibiza yesterday accused each other of violating the law on traffic counts and times. It was the first to denounce the Association of nightclubs and discos de Baleares (Lime), which groups 40 establishments on the island, including Pacha, Space, Amnesia, Privilege and Eden.

Its president, Jesus Sanchez, said this summer has reached "chaos"
because "nothing is controlled and everyone does what he wants."

He was particularly critical of the "illegality" of the beach clubs, hotel-clubs and cafés-concerts, and put some examples, like a local with a capacity of 112 individuals and licensed restaurant in the public coastal domain celebrating festivals "thousands of people gather."
...
Sanchez and the owners of the main clubs met yesterday with the president of the Consell, Vicent Torres, and the mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Ruiz.
They gave Torres a comprehensive report with photographs of the celebrations of these establishments, which are thousands of people, and in which dozens of complaints they filed some years ago and the answers you gave municipalities are also included.

;)
For example, some replies from Sant Josep were "an insult to the intelligence"
because they made an inspection on November 3 in the morning
and "not noted illegalities." ...

it's not the authorities who are throwing crap all over the place!

especially funny in the case of the "golden mile", as they call it... have a walk around the pedestrian streets behind keeper/etc any morning and you'll see people who own expensive flats in the area walking their dogs and letting them shit everywhere. so before complaining so much start by cleaning your dog's shit!!!

in some cases, the more money they have ---> the less respectful they are...
