stivi's ibiza chronicles

Beautiful! I really need to come over in early Feb; had hoped to see the almond blossom last March but we just missed it.

yeah it normally happens some time between january and late february. hard to tell beforehand, you just need to wait and have someone from the island tell you 'book your flights, it's starting now'. two weeks later (or latest three) it's all over again. but right now it is bloody gorgeous.

riiiight I'm happy to announce summer is officially here. coffee on the terrace already at 8 in the morning in shorts and flip flops. it's still chilly at night so bring a jumper, but the days are now rapidly getting warmer and warmer. no more socks needed during the day yay :)

on the downside, we saw the first jellyfish invasion yesterday. it's a common thing in may though, there's always a wave coming in somehow. we were up north for a bit and cala san vicente was affected by jellyfish quite a bit. as always though, if one coast is affected, drive to another beach on the other side of the island and you've got good chances to find it jellyfish free.

quick review from this weekend's club hopping...

saturday night - pacha anniversary. very busy! moodymann and carl craig playing pretty banging too.

sunday...

first went to cuckoo land at ibiza rocks hotel. was really curious about this and I think this really is an option for people who want a proper daytime thing (starts at 2pm) around a pool you can actually swim in if you want. and it's an alternative to ocean beach too in case it's not your thing. was perfectly busy yesterday and I can see this becoming a decent sunday daytime thing for san an. I bet there will be lots of people going out sat night (elrow for example), then covering the few hours between that and cuckoo land at the hotel and then carrying on at ibiza rocks sunday afternoon.

after that I drove up to las dalias for acid sunday. much like the zoo opening two weeks ago, this was a proper island reunion again. very busy, lots of familiar faces, great vibe. music on the main floor was a tad quiet but I understand las dalias has neighbours and such. originally I wanted to go to rumors opening too, but I got stuck at acid sundays and then it was too late. so I just went home for a quick dinner.

and then I hit up defected opening at eden. club in full swing. great to see eden packed.

island's off to a good start, dc10 up next.

Noticed the Defected live stream from Eden last night on Facebook and yeah, it did look pretty good!! I wonder if it's just a one-off though or is Eden becoming more popular...??

we'll see how this pans out. I'm sure defected will be doing fine but it needs pointing out that last night they didn't have any real competition apart from the pacha classics night at pacha. next sunday things will already look different with hi and solomun being open. but I do hope defected and eden generally will work fine this year. it's a decent club and they've got a real opportunity this summer.

dettmann and lazarus at dc10 very early this morning - whoa. fantastic music.

Oooft! Wish I'd come straight from the airport.

Seen that Lazarus is playing Blue Marlin on Sunday. Worth going to? Never been to BM and not sure if it's my kind of place but like Lazarus.

if you can 'forgive' the champers crowd you'll likely have a good time. let's be honest, as a place BM is really nice and damian is damian. he was in brilliant form last night. if I could ID half of the tunes he played I'd be a happy chap!

quick sankeys visit last night - do not sleep // sankeys summer opening party. both basement and LAB packed and a very good vibe. those who read on here regularly will know I'm no big fan of tech house so the music wasn't exactly my thing, but it was easy to see people in there had a great time. superb kick off for sankeys really.

more reports soon - now just listening to bernard sumner from new order at IMS.

here's a quick report from privilege opening on thursday night and heart opening friday.

went to privilege around 11:30pm, wanted to check out heath holme (friend of mine) playing in coco loco. this is the first change - coco loco is back. they have split vista club and coco loco completely and so there are now again 3 proper rooms - main, vista, coco loco. what else have they changed: floors, bars, toilets. they also painted everything and even though it still is privilege as you know it (if you've been in the last few years), it looks and feels much cleaner now. no more bad smell etc. a definite step in the right direction. I stayed until booka shade (great performance as ever). all in all it wasn't extremely busy, but the upgrades are promising and I'm hoping for a great summer for privilege. there are still more small changes and additions planned, I just can't talk about these yet.

friday night was about heart opening. I only was up at dalt vila for a bit in the evening and then went to heart at around 1:30am. guy laliberté was just playing, but sven came on at 2am. place was very busy, but not as packed as the last two years for opening - it was bearable. sven started off housey and melodic and then got harder later. played til 4:30 (one of the highlights was patrice bäumel's glutes) and then it was acid pauli's turn. spent a lot of time on the upstairs terrace later chatting to friends.

didn't go anywhere yesterday - needed a night off. heading to hï tonight to have a look and then on the way back maybe catch an hour of mano le tough in pacha (but no plans to actually party tonight) and then save all my energies for 24hrs with cocooooooon monday/tuesday :) BRING IT ON.

busy openings, not so busy openings, funny openings, disappointing openings...but the one opening I really care about, that one is coming up tonight! :)

soon heading out for a nice dinner (shall report about that too afterwards) first and then going to join the cocoon family for the first of their 19 mondays of their 18th season. after IMS and checking out all the openings, this will mean some well-earned shenanigans for me! I might go completely offline until wednesday morning, but maybe I'll check in at some point.

see you on the dancefloor! :)
