Spotlight Running Club

So, after my Ibiza trip in July my fitness was shot to pieces, resorted to having to train away from my normal group which was painful enough without my kidney kicking me to bits!

Anyway, a few months down the line and I am back and running stronger than ever.

PB'd my 10k by 5 second 2 weeks ago, 35:45 at Honington and then completed my first Half Marathon at the Perkins Great Eastern. Great course, perfect conditions and I managed to get a Sub 80 first time out with 79:20! Delighted as I would've taken Sub 90 before I started! :)

Onto Leeds Abbey Dash and Reading Half next March. Anyone on here doing either of these?

That's really good going Patto! I ran Reading Half this year, decent enough race but not one I'll look to do again. Well organised apart from the bag drop system which you'd be better off avoiding if you can, was a shambles. Finishing in the football stadium was cool but miles 10-13 were pretty dull, mostly into the wind along a dual carriageway.

I ran the Great South Run yesterday. A year ago that event was my first ever race, it's crazy how far I've come in that time. 1:19:54 a year ago, 1:05:57 yesterday and I placed in the top 300. Great support all round the course and there were 83 of us on the start line from my running club. Brilliant day!

Excellent time Jack. Well done. It really does go to show what consistent training and hard work can do.

I got my 10k time down to 36.42 two weeks ago. Had a niggle since so having to take it easy

Really good 10k there Evo! I reckon if you stay injury free through the winter then that 3 hour marathon is well within your grasp

Flat and fast course at Gosport Half today - 1:26:18! I would've been chuffed with 1:28 beforehand. 18 weeks today til Barcelona marathon - time to start increasing the mileage.

Good going there Jack! Barcelona will be superb.

Anybody else at Leeds today for the Dash? Ran 39:59 last year at it, this year, 60seconds off my PB with 34:45!! Beyond happy!

Phenomenal time Patto, well done.

Thanks guys. Top work Patto! It sounded like a really top quality field. A lad from my club ran sub 32 mins and still came in 85th or something like that, amazing really.

Top 15 all came in under 30 as far as I am aware. The quality up at the top end was amazing! Great to see and great for British Running. Its a fantastic event and is definitely one to experience first hand :)

How's everyones running going? People in the early stages of marathon plans?
I've just started week two of mine and all things seem to be going well.
I was meant to have an 'easy' half marathon (8min / miles) on Sunday just gone but as I'd entered a race I thought i'd go for it a bit more. New PB now stands at 1:24:01. :D.

Top effort there, Evolution!! Especially if you were not specifically aiming for a pb. You must be thinking that you could get near to 1:20 with specific hm training and a decent flat course?

Not a lot to report personally, had a very lazy few months of training, finding new trails ready for the big push in 2015. Formentera trail - feb, 25 miles.... NDW50 - may.... NDW100 - aug.... Autmumn 100 - October. Very excited about the year head :)

Good luck with the training guys.

Disaster for me, I pulled a hip flexor a couple of days after my last half marathon and have been sidelined since. Lots of physio initially and a few failed comebacks. I saw a running specialist just before Xmas and basically my form had gone out of the window where I was running while trying to protect the injury. I started a 6 week course on Monday to iron out these imbalances and generally improve my running style, I was too bouncy before hand which was overworking my calfs and hip flexors while my glutes and hamstrings weren't doing much at all. So far so good, I couldn't run more than 15 mins without the pain returning before Monday, but that's already improving.

I'll now be lucky to even make the start line of the Barcelona marathon in March, which I'm gutted about as I was on for a huge PB before the injury happened. I'm positive though, I should come back a better runner when I get over this and I'll be looking for a fast autumn marathon. I really want a GFA for London next year, that's my biggest 2015 goal.

Nice one on the new PB Evo. I'm the same, I could never not race a race. Sounds like a sub-3 could well be on the cards.

Injury is lingering a bit but I got through the marathon! I managed to get in 8 weeks of training after the injury so just about got enough miles in to have a decent go. I ran 3:21:10. I've signed up for Abingdon marathon in October to have a crack at a quicker time, hopefully I'll actually manage to base build properly and get a full 18 weeks of training in.

I'm just happy I was able to run it, was a really good race and I love the city. I think I'll look into doing other races abroad, it's good fun.

waaay off but i did my longest run Ive done the other day at 9km. was a nice day and felt good so just decided to keep going. was hoping it would be 10k but I dont check distance till the end. no sore legs either!?

Good effort Marc. Only a couple of years ago my longest run was about 7 miles, all it takes is a bit of consistency to make big improvements.

20 mile race for me today. I said i was going to take it easy 1st half then go at marathon pace in the 2nd. that plan didn't happen. Started off @ 7:10 then was progressive with almost every mile bar the odd one or two. Finished in just over 2:17 so a 6:50m/m
Hoping i won't have taken too much out of my legs by pushing myself a little, although they did feel good throughout.

That's brilliant running, must give you confidence for your sub-3 attempt if your legs still felt good towards the end. You'll be a lot fresher after tapering for the marathon too. Which marathon are you doing again?

You must be on target to smash three hours, Evo.

@jack, re: doing races overseas, there is a great Half Marathon here in Ibiza on 1st May. It goes from Santa Gerturdis to Ibiza town, finishing in Vara De rey. The day is a big fiesta day here, get yourself a cheap flight booked, you won't regret it :)
