Space/DC10 opening weekend

Bad comedown??
Exactly what I was thinking

and whats this business about upstairs and downstairs? Are you sure you were at Space, snaggletooth? Unless you're talking about the Premier Etage in which case it makes sense that people weren't dancing

Well, credit where its due and all that, but unfortunately this time none is due. Ive just got home from my first trip (this year) to Ibiza a few hours ago, and as we arrived Sunday evening it was a quick dumping of the luggage at our hotel (the Algarb in PDB) and off up the road to night two of the Space opening.
On arrival, we queued little more than 5 minutes and promptly paid our 70euro (gulp! but you got one free drink at the bar - yippee do) and went inside...... And it was a nightmare.
Downstairs was a cattle truck rammed full of virtually immovable bodies. The bar area was five deep, and the sound system wasnt even particularly loud. People were desperately trying to move from one point in the room to another hoping to find that illusive space (no pun intended) to breathe, but when everyone is trying to do that it just results in a log jam. Bloody awful.
So after aquiring our one precious "free" drink (which took about half an hour) we decided to force our way upstairs and see if things were any different up there. They were only marginally better. Again, the volume was lower than was required to give the place that much needed whoomp, but the most ridiculous thing of all was that 95% of the "clubbers" up there seemed to be nothing but a bunch of wannabe posers who had obviously turned up just to sit around and look cool (at least THEY thought that) and who probably only paid in so they could tell their friends later "oh, I was in Space dont you know....blah, blah, blah". So, can I ask politely - WTF is wrong with you idiotic people?? The entire floorspace, ledges, and other areas were taken up by a horde of pathetic gimps just hanging around doing nothing. Downstairs was the same, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt as it was so damn packed in there, but maybe I was wrong as later when it thinned out by a few hundred there still seemed to be very few dancing (erm, I am correct arent I that clubs are for DANCING in?). Of course, that said, the music was uninspiring to say the least, and I found the odd incoming plane almost exciting beyond anything this place had to offer. To sum it all up, this was one of the worst club experiences Ive ever had. Jaysus, my local Roxy would have inspired me more than this jaded "superclub" or should I say "superplum". So, for those of you that werent there, dont worry, you missed nothing. And for those that were, I really hope you are reading this, because next time please just stay at f**king home and pose around your radio. Maybe that will give those of us who want to dance a bit of Space (pun intended) because I dont want to see your pathetic gobs anywhere near me again. When i pay into the most expensive single night of the year Id like to see others who go for the same reason as I do - TO F**KING DANCE. You people are pathetic. Really PATHETIC. Just get the f*ck away from me.

PS. Yes I am angry.

PPS. And for those of you who have dissed old stalwart Bora Bora here on parts of this board - maybe you should give IT a try in the late evening sometime (forget the daytime garbage). I had one of my best nights ever in there while I was away. What a pumpin nuthouse. Everyone in there going for it, great tunes, great people, free entry, fair priced drinks, and of course, spiderman lol. Top marks from me BB.

I love Space in general, but my partner and I went to the opening last year, and we both had the same experience as you... we left after 4 hours of trying...

I will never go to the opening again, and I will never bother even trying the closing...

I did feel regret when I was listening on the radio to the opening, and wished I was there.

But reading your review reminded me... i had never been to a club and danced so little, nor had I been trampled so many times... one drink... was all i could manage for the 4 hours cos of the time it took to get them.

I will be going beggining July this year... normally a nice time to go...

I hope you enjoyed your holiday overall though...

Thanx Sophie. Glad I wasnt the only one then lol. And to the rest of you with your kind remarks - no, not a bad comedown. That was night one, and even then I intended to write that review (took a bit of remembering though lol). Theres no need to defend these huge megaclubs who make millions out of us if they dont deserve a good review. Think you should all do yourselves a bit more justice and make them work for the amount of money we pay. I dont expect perfection (though as these prices we should be getting it - 70euro to get in, 10euro for a bottle of local beer, and 7.50euro for a tiny 250ml bottle of water) As for the rest of my stay, it was great. ;)

I am not a fan of Space either - havent been since they renovated the place - as far as I am concerned its up its own arse.

I cannot abide the security - totally OTT in that place, the lack of space in Space and quite frankly cant see myself every going back

Too many good memories to ruin for me.... I shall forever be spouting "it were better back in the day":lol:

I'm sorry to say I dont fully agree. Yes its past its best to some degree, but there are still some decent nights there, and if you get the right Dj it can still be rather decent. IMO ;)

I have really enjoyed other parties I have been to at space... just not the opening... its so overrated...

I remember going to We Love in 07 and having one of the best day/nights, and also Matinee morning early afternoons were a blast...

I will be going to the Carl Cox Opening this year, despite the awful Opening experience of 2009... because I am sure nothing can be as bad as that...

Done opening and closings, and now feel that I know my fave times on the Island, early July or early September, room to breathe and dance and not such an over the top 'there to be seen' vibe...

VIVA IBIZA!!!

I agree. Listen to the opening on the radio, save yourself a load of cash and go when there's enough room to enjoy it!

Ps. We Love 07 on the terrace rocked!!

Have to say this year looks like a really good year! So many good parties and a lot of excitement around the place. The whole fuse, ushauia beach parties and some of the parties space are hosting in the weeks between now and the season fully kicking off look brilliant.

Roll on July!!

There definetily a good vibe this year, the people seem more up for it, promoters pushing hard, strong nights...etc

civil guard seem as inept as ever :)

Ive just got back from opening weekend, Ushuaia and space on the saturday, space on sunday and DC10 on monday, Yes, it was rammed beyond belief but for some reason that didnt seem to bother me, id already accepted it was going to be busy with it being opening weekend. Really cool people from all over the globe

Music for me, highlights being Luciano on saturday night and Zip on the monday, was spot on througout the weekend...other than...Bora Bora, ok during the day till about 8 but once sun falls get the hell out of there, it turns into what i could only describe as chavy gay club on the backstreets of Hull

Seem to be more women than normal on the island and that can only be a good thing!
And if they all look like the barstaff in Ushuaia then even better :D

Heres to a great 2010 season!

yes - but the important word is "... AROUND (space) ..."
;)

haha ... 2 people / 3 opinions ...
... so when is "garbage"-time - day or night ?

Sweatiest club in ibiza, 6 in the afternoon, on the end of a hectic opening weekend, i dont think anyone expected dc10 to be swarming with glamorous girls, or even cared!

ushuaia was way way too packed, but besides around 7, and until whenever it finished, dc10 was MAGICAL. i will never wash my sweaty top.

Despite my earlier comment I am heading out on Wed for the Amnesia and We Love openings. Hoping it will be less busy by then. Cannot wait! :D

Some quality contradictions on here!!! Ill see for myself before passing any judgement!!!!:D

Gotta agree hammy. The thinking man values his own opinion way above the sheeplike flock.

Two ways of looking at Bora though: Would you.....

A) Like to be among a bunch of posey, non-dancing, wannabes (daytime)

OR

B) Be among a throng of down-to-earth, no inhibition, all night floorbouncers (nighttime)

Guess I made my choice lol. Though maybe things get better after the opening weeks. My review stands solid (IMO) for what I saw 30th May-4th June 2010. :)
