hi thanx for the photos

i have been coming to ibiza since 1988 at least 2-3 times a year and was worried when i heard about all the redevelopment around cafe del mar . i remember it before mambo, savannah, sugar sea etc and it has changed so much over the past 10 years. i am worried they will do to the sunset cafes what they have done to space terrace!!!

ive often enjoyed a vodka limon at mambos, (more sonin the early days if im honest as its too packed and full of beer boys now) the tables where you sit out front will be gone now i guess, but at least you wont have people pushing through at cafe del mar any more....

all in all i suppose will have to wait and see, i have been looking for pics all over the net so thanks for posting yours. it just seems the vibe might be spoilt a bit with lots of families with pushchairs waking through all the time..!!!! the decked terraces dont really do it for me (however i supppose thats all Savannah did really..)

Looking forward to 30th May when i touch down again.... for a week or so of madness.... keep posting the pics

Mackie? The platforms will be on all the beach of the bar or just a little part?i don't really understand ... can you explain ?

Thankssssss mackieeeeeee et vive ibiza!

5 mts long..... so jez71 was right: more space for the paying customers than before (except for savannah, which had a lot more space before) :!:

cafe del mar fined with 11.100€ for installing their tables and chairs in a public space without authorization
seems like the coastal authorities are having fun..... according to yesterday's ultima hora, a bar in caló de s'oli (cala de bou) has been fined with 17.400€ for setting up 30 tables, 120 chairs and a boat in a public space without authorization. no need to be very clever to know it is kumharas :!:

Fair play they're cracking on with it aren't they:!: Great pics as usual8) look at that glorious sunshine reflecting off the water god I hate our crap weather!

its gonna be a bit harsh sitting out on those platforms in the sun. 8O 8O

watching this unfold i have been wondering why the tables in front of the cafes could not have been left alone, and then build the walkway where the platforms have been put up. that way they could also keep the sails/awnings up which make it more shaded. the walkway could have been set down a foot or two lower so that the views were not obscured too!!!

will be interesting to see how this affects the whole experience. i have the feeling it will be too sterile and less people able to come down and enjoy for free.... we will see!

less people :?:

i think more people will come down because these sunset-places are much easier to reach now ... people can take the "old" ways down or use the new "promenade" ...

but other (= wrong  ) people will come because access is much easier now
and the place will loose its "wilderness" and become more "family-style" :?

i wonder how many people will fall down from it ... its very high ...

i think its a great move, although i will miss how it was....you have room to walk, peeps have a great place to sit.....and the people who want to see it for free and not pay silly prices for drinks still have somewhere to go.

im assuming now that the bars cant throw you off the sections of rock in front of the platforms for drinking your own drink?

i know Mambo's didnt really like you in front if you werent buying drinks. so im assuming in all this the rock sections are a free for all?

Darran: did you read this thread from the beginning :?:

i think more people will come down because these sunset-places are much easier to reach now
specially the ones in caló des moro at night. before if you were, for example, at savannah and you wanted to check kanya you had to a) walk through that empty field in the dark or b) use the less dangerous route and spend 15 minutes walking..... now in 3 minutes you are there ! !

in theory from now coastline cafe/sunseabar/kanya/kasbah/golden buddha will be busier, while in the past some nights these places were ridiculously quiet as most people stayed down here --->

i imagine u wont be able to get to the rocks now that easily. i think there may be more room for those who pay and less easy access/space for those who dont pay

i heard they were taking away all the sand and sunbeds anyway?

but the walkway is good for getting from a to b (esp as i am staying in calo des moro!) just wondered why it wsnt built after the platforms a bit lower down!!!
