SAN ANTONlO REDlSCOVERED

Just checked the good old web cam again and nothing seems to be happening. Are they actually doing anything? I'm beginning to wonder whether they'll have finished by September! And did I understand an earlier post that said CDM had had to postpone the opening again? If so the losses must be huge. Is someone going to get sued?

Foundation Stone of New Bus Station Laid.
Pleased to be laying the foundation stone for the new bus station in Sant Antoni last week despite opposition from some affected land owners & hoteliers in the area (specially the very pissed off owner of piscis park who will lose some of his land and who is writing letters to the newspapers every week complaining about it-Mc), the Mayor of Sant Antoni, Jose Sala, apparently said it was a much needed improvement for the town. Designed to keep the public service buses from having to enter & pass through the centre of the town
the very-weird-looking new bus station, which was expected to be ready last summer, will be inaugurated in a few weeks..... so if you are, for example, at cafe del mar you will have to walk a bit more as the bus stop near villa mercedes will disappear :!:

a little bird tells me it will have space for, at least, 7 taxis and that the reason why it havent been inaugurated yet, although the building is finished, is because the bar (rented by a company from mallorca) is not ready yet.....

Sorry, I didn't read this thread entirely thru as this was my first time reading it. Great pics as usual Mackie. So basically, they have built a promenade now that extends from Savannah's thru the field all the way to Coastline/Kanya in front of all the sunset bars?? If so, that is good to see that ppl don't have to walk thru that field at night now. Was dangerous with little holes and rocks everywhere.

Cheers,
Terry

from the port, not from savannah:

(...) For budgeting & technical reasons, the project will be divided into 2 phases with the first phase from the port to Cala des Moro being carried out this coming winter as the authorities feel that this section is in most need of a fundamental change, improvement & re-organisation, which building the promenade will supposedly achieve. This first section will have an imitation stone floor covering with wooden urban furniture, fixtures & fittings using 75% of the budget. The first phase will be completed by summer 2007 & the next, more rustic phase from Cala des Moro to Cala Gracio will start in autumn 2007.

Wow that is awesome. I really hope Phase 1 is completely done on time and there isn't construction everywhere when I go.

Looks like 4 of them are working on the decking outside CDM now! Seems like there is no more holes for them to start building it into though. :(

Always wondered how they were going to do that stretch up from the harbour, nice to see they still have left the steps down to the cove though at the bottom.

Just hope that peeps still dont use that path and area for walking their dogs and using it as a dog toilet.

Cheers for the photos, really keeping us all in the know! Is anything going to be put infront of the decking, to stop people from falling off? If it near completion does anyone know?

thats a long way to walk - from the center to a suburb

from the ibiza sun:

San An Plan
The mayor of San Antonio, Jose Sala, presented his vision for the future of the municipality with an ambitious project to transform the area. The "master plan", as referred to by Sala, has already been underway for two years and includes projects already near completion, including the Cala Gracio promenade and the new bus station. The plan includes the building of three underground car parks; one under the plaza de España, another where the current football stadium is currently located, and a third under the Clos Mares market.
Other plans include the building of a 40,000 square metre park in sa Talaia, a botanical garden in Punta des Moli, and the development of the ses Variades area. The new plan stands out because of its greenness and its promise to maintain areas of natural beauty. Sala revealed that he also wanted to build a new sporting arena which would include two football pitches and an athletics track. The plan was described as ambitious, and one that would cement the municipalities position as a first class tourist resort with modern installations. Although nothing has been officially signed, Sala disclosed that a verbal agreement had already been reached with Palma to help with the financial costs.

Maintenance Laws
The Town Hall of San Antonio has passed a law that will lead to financial penalties for owners who do not keep their property in adequate condition. The fines vary from 300 - 3000 euros. Until now the regulations for building maintenance have not included any financial penalties. However, it was revealed that there was the possibility of the fine eventually being reimbursed, once the maintenance work had been carried out.
