Plans for a “NEW” San Antonio

Going back to Ibiza for the first time since a 4year hiatus only this time with my 18 month old and we are staying in San Antonio near the bus station area. Is it really that bad there now as I thought the sunset strip, Cala Gracio and Gracionetta and some of the nice bars and restaurants away from the West End would make it a good location to stay.

The sunset strip should be fine. I stayed there the past few years (Calo Des Moro) and found it well chilled, even in July

BEST bar for the sunset,with or without kids,
Is Golden Buddha, by far........good
 
Strangling the West End and then hoping it comes back to life as a middle class, hipster playground won't work.

It would take years to change its current image which is over 30 years old.

Far better to increase the policing budget, put police squads half way up the strip and at the top. Maybe even give them a small bar unit as a base. That would drive away the muggers, prossies and whatever else lurks there.

Also cheap to run a 'most improved bar' and 'most improved food outlet' contest. Offer a cash prize to the bar that has made the most effort painting up and buying new seating/equipment.

Over time things would smarten up and some of the bars would naturally evolve anyway. I don't dispute that the trend is for things to go upmarket, but surely its better for the bar and restaurant owners who've been on the West End for decades to make that move than to drive them out of business and hope someone else turns up to open a bar on a deserted strip?
 
Marco has decided to close The Pinguin Bar. Whilst not exactly in The West End his bar was still subject to the same rules such as noise limiters etc. and so San Antonio's longest running rock bar is shutting after 15 years. It's a shame- I liked it in there as an oasis away from the constant thumpety-bumpety of the West End itself.
 
is there an update on the west end closing times? is it the case that all bars and clubs on the strip will be shut by 3am? sorry if this was answered somewhere.

No idea. But I wouldent be too surprised as small bars like that are most likely to suffer with the 'no chairs outside after a certain time' draconian rules on the West End.

Tropi only has room inside for a DJ, a barmaid, a toilet attendant and about 2 clubbers! I do love it tho!
 
Do we know of any of the West End bars that won't be opening this season? Wondering if all the law changes will see an affect before the season even kicks off.

I've heard rumour of Tropi not opening as well. Makes me wonder who / what else may not open.

I have it from a very reliable source that Tropi is getting bigger & better for this season.... the success of the Brand nights over the last 2 years means it needs a bigger premises.

Interesting. I saw that some other bars are selling up. So plenty of chance to move.
