Notting Hill Carnival

boo...was going to try pineapple tribe on your advice!

I've been to Rampage...its amazing but so moody and aggro I've only ever stayed about 20 minutes! They have their own security and these guys are HUGE plus it is policed very heavily. Its worth seeing, but thats about it...looks amazing if you like that sort of vibe though...its intense later in the day. I'm too soft for that kind of thing ;)

Yeah might stick my head in as it's just up the road from Disco Hustlers but looks a bit scary from the clips I've seen. What's KCC like? Says funky house on Time Out...never been there either...

KCC was good fun when i went but it was down a road that was a dead end (soundsystem blocks one end), there werent many police and was a bit sketchy. The music was good, but a bit quiet and it had tonnes of people selling balloons and at some point some genius decided to spray pepper spray for a laugh...very funny as people were coughing and vomiting. A lot of people initially blamed the police too which it wasnt. Anyway, we had a good time there but it was a little edgy for a house stage...i dont mind as much if i'm a system with aggro music but house should eb friendly! Anyway, I'm waffling a bit. maybe worth checking out and seeing the vibe and then deciding.

Mixed experiences of NHC, first year I went was pretty good as it was all new to me, so the vibe of the place was enough to keep me going until closing, last year was a bit of a nightmare, seemed a lot busier and rougher than the first time so I'm giving it a miss this time.

Few bits of advice:

- If you're travelling on the tube from Liverpool St, be prepared for it to be hot, sweaty and rammed full all the way to Notting Hill Gate
- Phone signal is limited most of the time, so find a meeting spot or stick together
- Be prepared to pay over the odds for booze, bringing your own is smart (although the homemade rum punch there is good!)
- Toilet situation is diabolical (as most have already said) try and find a bush or alley with no police
- Speaking of police, they are generally pretty courteous just don't be caught doing stupid things (e.g. you can smell weed everywhere, just don't be caught puffing!)
- Leave early if you don't want to get crushed by crowds or on the tube back

Really selling it there! ;-)

Think I will give it a miss unless we fancy a mooch around...I think weather is important at carnival as well, can seem a bit grim if it grey or raining...

ha ha i know....but its not the first place ive seen kick off at cranival and fine other years! May be amazing this year.

Great shout on notting hill gate...tube there nearly gave me a panic attack! and agree on the police...always had good experiences with them at carnival...and agree on the rain...waste of time if its bad weather!

I can't remember a bank holiday weekend where it didn't pour down at some point. Was supposed to go to the carnival a couple of years ago but the weather stopped us. A few friends persevered and were at Chase & Status' sound system when it went kaput because of the rain (if I'm remembering that rightly).

It was really busy for a Sunday this year and it took me a while to get in to it but had a greeat day as always...see you all next year ;)

When i was a student, i used to do both days and stay at my parents who live there, but now i live in east london and have work on tuesday, the thought of trekking across london to do it all again when im feeling a bit rough is more than i can handle. too old for that these days ;)

Ended up at KCC on Sunday and then on to Mulletover. Cracking crowd and music at Mulletover, can't rate the whole carnival atmosphere enough. Brilliant weekend.

How was KCC. was a bit dodgy last time i went but its always busy...thinking i may have to give it another go. Always amuses me how many people pay loads to go to SW4 which is really average as an event...corporate and completely lacking atmosphere even if the line up is big, when there is an amazing and unique free party in london on the same weekend.

We were there earlier from about 1 - 3 and not really that sketchty. Couple of messed up people, one guy in particular making a phone call on his shoe. Group of
extremely tall Yardie looking boys walked through and looked like they were looking for someone at one point, I quickly learned that they don't really get the cheekly banter unfortunately.

If I stayed in London I would be there every year, fantastically raw and a little edgy, but I prefer things that way.
