I suppose its not to bad if it wont affect beach bars like bora bora, but what does this new law of no sound systems on the beaches mean? Does it mean We cant take like our own systems on to beach or is this going to effectively end bora bora and blu marlin?

McRakin? MrLk? or anyone else who lives out there who can shed some light on this new regulation.

none of the newspapers explained it properly but i wouldnt worry too much about that "el uso de aparatos sonoros" bit.....

from what i read it more to do with stopping rubbish, fires on the beach, fly tipping etc and being able to enforce the laws

if youre paranoid it could theorectically be used to stop noise nuisance

The mess people leave on the beach outside Bora Bora is a joke there's no need considering how many bins there is!

I'm thinking the 'no sound systems on the beach' thingy has been put in place purely because the 430pm opening time has been passed, in a pre-emptive move to stop people starting their own afterhours partys on the beaches.

Here's a thought: If Bora Bora is unaffected by all this, then they will attract a lot more people (money) and perhaps hire more DJs along with their current residents...
Imagine Matinee @ Bora Bora out in the open on the beach...

I can only imagine that if that were to happen (which I agree sounds like a great idea) that the powers that be would do whatever they could to shut it down. I've got the feeling that any beach bar with a sound system will now become the defacto "after hours crowd" that the government is trying to get rid of. Does anybody else see legislation coming their way?

Oh well, as I've said before, I'm still coming back (at least this year).

only in the case of san antonio theres some discord, as the town hall dont want this norms to affect the cafes-conciertos and pubs. the norms could apply in the other municipalities even if san antonio disagrees
as expected, it will continue 12 noon till 6am in san antonio. good news, not because eden or es paradis will suddenly start doing daytime parties but because all our favourite sunset bars and cafes along the promenade can open at noon instead of 4.30pm.....

 san antonio breaks with the agreement about opening times
sala will maintain the existing norms, which permit opening from 12 noon till 6 in the morning. the enforcement of the same limitations for the clubs and the cafe-conciertos, cause of the decision.

Does this make San Antonio cooler than Playa d'en Bossa now?

Common sense prevails....maybe this will shift the flow of more Euros from PDB to San An. That might put some pressure to rethink the ordinances of San Jose. Of course, that's probably just wishful thinking.

I dont think it will make a blind bit of difference, As it says they have done it because the Cafe's and bars have to follow the same rules as the clubs, All it will mean is Mambo, Bar M, Orange Bar, Iticia etc will be able to play music from 12 and not wait till 4.30

Just to clear something up then.....
If the law that has been passed affects both clubs and cafe / bars which play music does this mean that not even the bars in PDB such as tantra can play music before 4.30pm??

Its typical if it does, i have stayed in San An for past three years and decided to return to PDB this year (last visit was 2004) and all these changes occur.
The reason i decided to stay in Jet was for Bora Bora and daytime Space and DC10!!

Looking like San An would of been better now, at least there i could chill out in Kanya, Bar M etc and listen to music whilst having a mid afternoon drink etc!

Just praying Bora Bora escapes unscathed from all this change but im beginning to doubt that now.

Im still optimistic that ill have a great holiday, i remember reading all the gossip last year about closures / crackdowns and heavy police presence etc.
When i was there i didnt notice any difference at all and had the best holiday ever! Lets hope 2008 can be the same!

Anyone know the situation in Ibiza Town?

its not decided.... it appears that Costa cant make her mind up yet

basically san an said they didnt want to go with the 4.30 rule as they felt it might impact on local bars/cafes - since eden & es paradis dont do "after hours" then it's an easy thing for san an to do

Hall also said that the mayor of Ibiza Town, Lurdes Costa, supported the thesis of Sant Antoni, but finally changed their mind, "but I think also in Ibiza Town will have problems, because they have many cafes-concert," added Hall.

Thus, the San Antonio City Council will not approve in full any change in their existing ordinance regulating the hours clubs and cafes-concert, which will continue to set the timetable for both categories from noon to six in the morning.
"It was assumed that the model that was to continue throughout the island was the San Antonio, but we see he changed his mind, is something that I do not understand," said the mayor of this town.

According to the Island Council, the remaining municipalities on the island of Ibiza concurred with the new timetable proposed by the institution, but now must pass in their respective full new ordinances.

A spokesman for the Council said yesterday that there is an agreement with the clubs on the island not to open their doors before the half past four in the afternoon, "and we hope that this agreement will be fulfilled.

 the institutions will fine the owners of the houses that do illegal parties
the institutions are firmly decided to persecute the never ending parties, not only in the clubs, preparing a norm to act against the ones organized illegally in private houses. the government prepares a legal procedure that will permit the guardia civil to stop these parties when discovered, fining not only the promoter but also the owner of the house.
from the ibiza sun:

Parties Facing Ban
Sofia Hernandez, Madrid´s representative on the island, announced on Monday her administration was studying new measures to crackdown on illegal house parties. She fears that an end to after-hour clubs and bars will see an increase in these private parties. However, instead of introducing new regulations which could take several months, Hernandez will look for loopholes in the current legislation which could help put a stop to these parties this summer.
Illegal gatherings in private houses have been taking place on the island for many years. However, they have grown rapidly recently and have now become well organised events, with text messaging ensuring a wider audience. All involve loud music, alcohol and drugs, but the modern-day party will now include car park attendants and an entry fee.
Hernandez admitted the problem for the police was extremely delicate as they were dealing with a party within a private property. However, she continued that measures would be taken to ensure that they were able to enter homes. Both the party-organiser and the owner of the house would also be fined, leading Hernandez to warn all house owners to beware to whom they were renting their property, as they would also be held responsible.
The news came on the back of a statement from the minister, Miquel Ramon, who confirmed that the Town Halls would begin next week to vote on the new legislation which is set to put an end to after-hour clubs and bars. The final meeting will take place this week between the Consell Insular and the Town Halls, as all sides try and introduce the law before the summer. However, it looks like the administration of San Antonio may not reach an agreement in time (*as explained 8 posts above, it will continue 12 noon till 6am in san antonio*), as they continue to discuss the effect the new regulation may have on bars and pubs which open at midday to show sporting events.

I just realised....even though I only started going to Ibiza 5 years ago, now I'm going to be one of those "It's not as good as it used to be bla bla bla bla" people!!
