New York City - Help / Advice / Tips

interesting interview with the owner of cielo (www.cieloclub.com).

did anybody know that nyc´s cielo was named after
ibiza-pacha´s funky room (= "el cielo") ?

"...
TELL US ABOUT CIELO – HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME?
El Cielo was the nickname for the Funky Room at Pacha in Ibiza.

WHAT DOES THE NAME MEAN?
Cielo means sky or heaven.
...
YOU SPENT NEARLY A DECADE AT PACHA IN IBIZA –
HOW DID THAT GIG COME ABOUT?
The gig at Pacha came about because in the early 90s,
I was throwing a party here in NY in a small venue, that I was promoting myself.
There was a Spanish journalist who used to come there all the time and was
a big fan and she was very close friend with the owners of Pacha since 20 years.
She’s the one that contacted them and told them about me,
that’s how the doors were opened.
...
WHAT WAS A TYPICAL NIGHT AT PACHA IBIZA LIKE?
I was fortunate to be there in the heyday of house music in the 90s.
A typical night was people from all around the world who had flown in to Ibiza
for vacation, all very knowledgeable in the music, very eclectic, really inspiring times.
It was those years that inspired me to come back to NY and open a club.

WHAT YEARS WERE YOU THERE?
I’ve been going to Ibiza every year since 1989.
I was working there from 93-2000.

Im in NY working till end of Feb , is my second time here . Seems like im the only one who doesnt think this city is so amazing . Its cool to look at but being here makes me appreciate London alot more especially in terms of going out / clubbing

That's how I felt  I really enjoyed New York.....but I'm in no rush to go back - the city itself is amazing but I didn't rate the shopping at all or much of the night-life.

I find London much more individual imo.

help needed !

2 friends (female/28+29/very nice, but crazy/ibizafreaks/etc)
are going to nyc tomorrow, 8th of may, and stay for 5 days.

problem is - they have no plan at all :)
the only thing they know is that they want to do
- some serious shopping,
- some sightseeing (maybe circlelinetours by ship around manhattan) or whatever
- and they want to go to pacha on saturday:

if anybody wants to show them around - maybe friday night -
please send a pm with your number, so that they can get in contact with you.
they stay in some cockroach-hotel at centralpark/upper westside :)

that flyer is :rolleyes::lol: - if they are serious about going they should plan on getting there after 4, when the guidos thin out (don't worry, danny still gives it despite the hats:rolleyes:) - i'll be at craig richards at love but no afters for me(i hope)- sunday is mother's day:D - ugh that flyer is beyond horrible-

I would pretty much agree with that comment. Great city NY but London is far better for going in my opinion.

brian, susi is making a sooner then expected nyc-comeback !

we decided yesterday to cancel our next trip to ibiza (3.7.-9.7.) because of these
unwelcoming things which are going on there again at the moment ...
... and you know that susi loves the night(and day)-life ...

... so be prepared - she´s coming @ you this tuesday (1.7.-8.7.) !
:)

I am from NYC, born and raised.
plenty of non-guido, non-vip, underground, after hours with big names and great music and great ppl :Dif you know where to go and where to look ...problem is tourist wouldnt know! LOL

you can calways PM me :D

studio B
bunker
bar 13 ( i tend to end up here a lot)
love
cielo (not so underground but they bring in good talent)

i like rhythmism.com because they have everything from the big clubs like pacha to the small group of friends throwing loft parties

also check out the resolute parties. they bring in random talent at different venues every month..from boats to warehouses LoL

i wouldnt recommend pacha. they bring in big names but you have to deal with that "we think we are so cool" vibe from both the staff and clubbers LOL
you can see better names at some of the places ive listed and be with better people and not pay as much
unless you want the big room/club experience then check it out LOL but its not that serious

"...
You were a resident DJ in Pacha Ibiza;
how did that translate into owning a club?

It was in the 90s, and it was the heyday of house music.
That’s what really inspired me to come back to New York and open up Cielo.

What is the relationship between Cielo and Pacha now?

Cielo and Pacha have a very very close relationship.
First and foremost, the family that owns Pacha—the Urgell family—
I’ve known them since I was 19 years old.
For me, Pacha Ibiza was like the Garage or Studio 54—
that was the club that changed my life.
Anyone who went to Pacha Ibiza between the late 80s throughout the 90s
will tell you it was the best club that ever existed.
The residency there inspired me to come back and open this place.
With Pacha New York, I have a very close relationship with both Eddie and Rob.
Rob actually hosts a night here, called “Dance Here Now,”
and he does it usually twice a month at Cielo on a Thursday night alongside
Benny Soto, one of the big promoters in New York, who is also one of my managers.
