New year New me

I've yet to (re)join the gym - and to be honest, I'm steering away from doing so. Past form tells me I'd get 3-weeks use before I throw in the towel

Since 2nd January I've cut out all crisps, chocolate/sugary snacks and carbonated soft drinks - the latter of which is a particular vice in summer. Additionally, I've started having breakfast, a meal I've chosen to go without for most of my adolescence and adulthood, on top of having 5-7 portions of fruit and veg a day

Last week I cut out coffee Monday to Friday, although I did give myself a hall pass at the weekend. Back on the wagon again from this morning

From today I'm trying for cold showers - let's see how that goes!

Aside from diet, exercise is still the one I find most difficult to commit to. The best I've managed is one long walk a weekend, which is a minimum considering there are some great trails right on my doorstep

Less than 2-weeks in and I'm already noticing physiological, mental and mood benefits

I read this and literally asked 'whyyyyyyyy????' at the end of every sentence!
Okay I get the cutting out of crisps and chocolate, but I'm actually intrigued as to why you want to cut out coffee just in the week and have cold showers?

Absolutely no shade being thrown here - I'm actually interested!

I hate being dependent on it - or the belief that I'm dependent on it. First few days without it I crashed and had headaches until lunchtime, but after that it's amazing how much better I felt. I don't have any trouble sleeping, but I wake up feeling a lot more refreshed off caffeine.

The cold showers thing is probably a placebo effect, but I've been reading some interesting things about it in terms of productivity and I'm thinking "why the hell not?"

To be clear, I love coffee, chocolate, crisps (drugs, porn, and loads of other indulgent things), and I'm not advocating anybody giving them up unless they want to. My abstinence will certainly only be periodical

Cold shower.. no way.. I would only ever have black coffee maybe once or twice a week and only in the morning.. never a chocolate or buiscut fan.. do like crisps and peanuts.i do walk or cycle everywhere as I don't drive.. never been to a gym..

Fair enough! Let us know if it works!

First cold shower down. After the initial shock, you get used to it pretty quickly, and I definitely feel more awake! Even more reason to dispense with caffeine

100% repeating tomorrow

I've no idea of the legitimacy of the source, but coincidentally this just got shared on my fb timeline by an acquaintance:

Done it for a few months but it ended up making me procansinate rather than get in the shower! Now I just do a regular warm one and put it on cold at the end.

Second cold shower down. Seeing it through to the end of the week now. At least
