ministry of drugs

You have a real hatred going on there!

I am one of those interfering jackasses

I had a mate who was exactly the same "drugs are for morons! I don't know why you can't enjoy yourself just drinking! I have exactly the same great time and I don't need any illegal substances etc etc". She was 30 and never touched anything. Then she met a guy who was into clubbing and now she's a massive cainer!! Worse than all my mates! She realised what she'd been missing out on  ;)

It happens to many people, I think. There's a sort of mysterious line you have to cross and when you do cross it there's a sort of "road to Damascus" moment. Your first time doesn't even have to be that "knock your socks off" amazing for you to think, "yeah, there's something pretty special going on here."

You do come out the other side though!

(in my case 17 years later...)

((OK so I still dabble frequently so I'm talking b*llocks))

...but I'm definitely waaaay over needing them for a night out.

I think if there's a point where you NEED them for a night out, as opposed to preferring them on a night out, then yeah maybe there is reason to stop. But the majority of people I know can enjoy themselves with or without dancing aids!

Also Rob - I think it comes with age too of course. I don't think you've necessarily "come out the other side", you've probably just grown up and matured :? to a point where you wouldn't go out and neck a chemists worth of drugs.... like we all did at 17!!

True.

I only really go out on (very) special occasions now...Torture Garden's birthday and Glasto being the two main blow outs.

I just seem to have so many other things occupying my time now and if I have a free weekend, rather than going 'RAAA!' and launching myself into a speaker (and a hole) I tend to let out a long sigh, open a bottle of wine and collapse on the sofa for an early night!

(Christ really must book that Ibiza trip after reading that)

Someone's got the post-Glasto anti-clubbing blues!! ;)

Nooo! I'm the opposite! Cannae wait to get out in the country this weekend and breathe some non city air! :D

at the start, it really does change your life ... All the cliches - the love, the bonding, the warmth, coming up to btribe - fiesta fatal dj pippi remix at some cosmopolitan flat in acton - you cannot describe that experience...

I still occasionally love the experience of losing it somewhere small, or in someone's flat or on a boat or barefoot in a field at a festie, but it is rare + I just can't handle big crowded clubs anymore.

have definitely scaled back - the sheer amount of crap being sold these days is a real pisser too.... and I guess I am jaded - I must have had THOUSANDS of the fckers - there's no real element of surpise anymore...

it really is time some lab started synthesising something altogether new

ignorant of what exactly? How come i can enjoy myself full on and the only thing that interferes with that is some sad jackarris on a comedown looking for more pills. All about the plur man. Yeah right. The drugs you mean

- ignorant that there maybe people who are not exactly the same as you are not all pr1cks

- ignorant that a decent pill might be alright for a night out

- ignorant that for me - and i don't think i'm alone - it improves the perception the music gives

- ignorant that booze creates more ignorant cretins than pills do ... an opinion there..

Its a total non starter for me and always has been. Yes the idea appealed to me at some points in time and yes I dabbled in a few bits ages ago and I have heard all of the above before.

I did not say ALL people who use the stuff are whatever. My gripe comes with that when I am on it and enjoying myself I get A LOT of people approaching me for the stuff and it pi$$es me off. Trust me I've had many great nights out where the music and atmosphere is top notch and Iv'e got by without any of that stuff, most of my mates are the same and they have been in the club and music industry for years.

Anything that messes with your mind to that degree just aint good. Period.

On the booze cretins thing its people that are irritants and not what they have taken be it booze or pills.

Boy, you Guys have alot to say!
Few points to add:
Palumbo started Ministry, based on Justin Berkmans brainwave!
The only reason Palumbo is getting this exposure in the Snail & the Times amongst others, is that he's written a novel, which is getting some serious reviews!
Alot of people who worked there in the early days & are still close, have become main players in the Industry, Danny Whittle & Amy Thompson to name just 2!
The Bouncers used to be hardcore, was talking about this the other day. The Head doorman who was massive, used to runa very different ship, thankfully that has had to change with the legislation they have introdeuced!
K was going way before minimal, which would have happened anyway! Just another genre, which so many have come & gone, all under the 'House' tag!

Could go on, but wont!
Been going for the 17 years, naturally its gone thro many varying stages, the last year or so has been excellent!
Not been that much this year, however am going saturday for the SOS boys, with Francois K & Smoking Jo guesting!!
