Jackmaster

The guy is 32 and has people constantly telling him how fantastic he is, probably living a lots of peoples dream.

Life for the busiest international touring DJs must indeed be a strange existence. Isolated 80% with hotel rooms, airports and travel - maybe with a sole companion in the form of a tour manager, who no doubt grate on each other after a while. Then the other 20% of the time your lauded with hospitality riders, compliments and bum licking from the promoters who book you and adoring fans who throw themselves at you. No wonder it gives many a complex.

most of my friends these days have some connection to music - usually DJs, producers, sound guys, label/agency work. mostly unheard of by the greater public and most pursuing a passion rather than a career. occasionally somebody crosses over with a hit/headliner slot and you get grumblings because X doesn't hang out anymore with the people 'who were there at the start' etc. However, the biggest issue isn't egos so much as drug problems, depression or failed relationships. There's also people who reach 40s/50s with nothing else to fall back on because DJing is all they know and it's extra hard when you're not flavour of the month or only offered insulting fees to play pubs to 11 people. Some go away. Some never come back. But the key thing is it is a community, cliquey at times but once you're in, you're in. I don't think you have to become a dickhead if you're grounded and a fundamentally decent person. The best people imo are the ones who take the craft deadly seriously but treat the lifestyle as a laugh, rather than the other way round...

Guy has just lost his father and has always been a bit of a caner. I can find myself to forgive him, whatever poogate entails.
Will say this for him, known him for years in Glasgow since he was working in the record shop, he's a good guy amd taking a Tam Kite in a kettle doesn't change this.

Anyone accusing him of assaulting women should check their facts. I know first hand from folk that were there and say it never happened. Granted I wasn't but I trust the opinion of those who were and I've known for years.

Not an easy thing to say as many will have a pop as I must say, it is never the victims fault, never at all but Jack should not be getting himself in the state where he makes its easy for people to accuse him of something. Too many people out there nowadays happy to accuse someone off the back of something completely innocent.

Why apologise then, it was ambiguous and has probably fuelled a lot of the chatter...

I've heard a few good mixes of his over the years and caught him at Circoloco in the garden earlier this year and he was superb! Musically I do think he is a very good DJ - very versatile but he does come across like a bit of a doughnut. I can imagine him being incredibly irritating to be around!

Musically he's brilliant and a true crate digger. First saw him at Tuesday Club in Sheffield Years ago - was a Skream invites night. Jackmaster blew me away and I've been a big fan ever since.

Does come across as a bit of a cock though. As does Jasper James.

I saw Jackmaster in an all night long b2b2b set with Skream and Krystal Klear in Dublin last year. All 3 of them were pretty wasted, they all kept fighting over the headset and there was even a while where they didn't let Olly on the decks cause he was the worst for ware out of the 3, so he then jumped into the crowd twice. Musically I cannot really recall much as I was probably just as pissed as they were but an absolute quality night for sure.

Talking of cocks, it takes me back to the time some friends booked a DC10 resident in Leicester a few years ago. He was due on at about 1am but was sat in the corner of the club with two fit birds having a whale of a time. Refused to play a few times then when he finally took to the decks at gone 2am, he complained he couldn't hear anything through the headphones. They booted him out and the night's own residents played. Knowing the fee they had paid for the pleasure it was a disgrace!
