I’ve posted here a few times about how I think the authorities have been starting to manage the gentrification of the island over the last few years with the aim of changing the clientele, @stivi @TiffyBennett1 @W_I_C do you think events like those at cova Santa, palmarama and blue marlin could become the future for those venues and others when Covid is under control, at the expense of the mass market?

I don’t have nearly as much knowledge as the other two tagged, but I truly believe that as soon as they can clear the dance floor of tables and chairs and have people entering and dancing as ‘normal’, they will.

maybe the odd venue might think it will work as a business model later down the line, but with every other place around them packing out their dance floors - they’ll surely take a hit and end up empty and losing out.

I'm sure (if you take the considerable money lost since the start of the pandemic out of the equation) that some of these formats are lucrative

But I'm also certain that they only work at the moment because of the absence of clubbing

Although there are bits and pieces happening in the UK, Mykonos and Croatia right now, once most of Europe is caught up and clubbing is go, the businesses here won't risk that Ibiza loses its USP to another destination. Because, ultimately, in the long run, they would also lose the VIPs. Who, while they might sit around by their table behind a rope, also very much want the energy of a dancefloor below them

The authorities might prefer if it was the permanent norm. But the clubs - and all their various offshoot businesses that are linked to the clubbing ecosystem - no way

Also it could well be possible that we see a rise in a new model alongside the return of clubbing. 528 is one new example

Maybe one or two venues don't make it through the other side, and maybe they or a new owner tries something different there? That's just pure speculation on my part

Arguably, by 2017 there was already 1 or 2 more clubs on the island than demand dictacted

Please tell me these guys played Butch- Lale
Imma say it like it is. This new format is trash, it's basically the VIP tables extended throughout the dancefloor which is everyone's worst nightmare.
We need the old regular Ibiza back, no denying it!!
Yeah Ushuaia sent me over the prices for next Friday. Wouldn’t hesitate during normal times but can’t quite fathom it for being stuck sat at a table. Not a criticism, sure some would love it regardless. Think it will be just hitting a few bars for drinks for us

The music was certainly loud enough, maybe even louder than what Ushuaïa is used to, and certainly better quality
Thank you for a great review😎

Will say this... the Ushuaia sound system is the only HUGE sound system that I have ever heard sounding equally good during hangover breakfast at low pressure as it sounds during peak hour at max DB. Quite astonishing feat and of course fully dependant on the FOH who operates it. Adamson Sound Systems line array still I believe. Where it really shines is infrabass 15-30hz and 250-800hz.. damn I miss a big sound😊😊

On a radio observation; I can thoroughly recommend Playasol Radio 92.4FM (and online) for anyone looking for a great mix of proper, quality holiday vibes, Balearica, AOR disco, 80s, yacht rock etc. It was absolutely perfect for us while driving around the island in our convertible SUV* (*Fiat Panda with the windows down)

IF august and september go as well as july has gone and IF there aren't any more restrictions (let's hope not), then I do think cova santa might still be open in october yeah.

it's very hard to predict anything right now though.
Like the weather

Take it with a pinch of salt as it's the Telegraph

Interesting to hear the views of others who have been here recently, but has the taxi situation stabilised at bit?

I've honestly not had an issue getting a taxi at any time or place this past week, including managing to hail one via the app to deepest Santa Agnes at 02:00 last weekend. There has always been plenty at San An bus station and the rank at the bottom of the West End. This wasn't always the case during my earlier visit in July

Seems unlikely that it would improve at this point in the season, but that's my personal experience. What about everybody else?

We couldn't get one in Es Canar around 6pm last week. Loads of people waiting and the app just told me that I couldn't book.

Walking from Es Canar to Santa is lonnngggggg btw

We ended up walking back to Es Vive from Dalt Vila last night as completely forgot about the 1am curfew and there were very few taxis at the usual rank by the MAC store on Av de Bartomeu de Roselló. Strangely saw a few with the green light on approaching but they all turned towards Marina Botafoch.

The irony is that the 1am curfew is causing a sea of people all leaving at once, so will increase the risk of people catching & spreading COVID!

Taxi situation was a shambles in the evenings tbh. We tried the app 5 or 6 times and after accepting the fare the driver (or the app) cancelled it once, other times they just didn't turn up. We went to Pikes on Sunday for lunch and just got water taxi across the bay and went for a drink before grabbing 3 from the rank. On the day we left (Saturday morning) we called the number that was at the villa and 2 turned up straight away

My observation is that the price for accommodation is massive (higher than prime London and Paris prices)…appreciate its peak summer but I’ve never seen it so expensive. 300 euro at night at ushiaha actually doesn’t seem too bad in comparison….I guess if you have a package holiday it’s different but still it’s a noticeable change.

Actually Es Vive seems better value this year but some prices elsewhere seem to have rocketed (quoted over £300 per night for Los Molinos sea view!).
