ibiza gossip 2025

I'm probably going to get crucified by this but I'm going to say it anyway, is Carl Cox still that relevant in the current Ibiza scene? Ten years is a long time in this industry, how many of the new generation of clubbers do know about him? Was his mini residency at DC10 successful?
I'm talking strictly about his DJ persona so please nothing to do that he's a nice guy, charitable etc .etc.. as it's not really being nice that sell tickets.

Fair point, time has indeed gone on. A 25 year old at Space closing will be 34 this year and dare I suggest moving more towards Cova Santa, Pikes type nights, or at least not in Hi/UNVRS/Ushuaia every night for a week anymore👴

I think the yooth know about him and his legacy though.

I mean I could probably list 100 things that I said 10 years ago that I have back-tracked on. These guys are only human too!
Of course we all make mistakes but I'm sorry in this case what he said then and what is doing now make you question his credibility.
I'm not anti Cox btw, totally the opposite, that's why I probably feel disappointed but at the same I'm not that bothered either, he can do a warm up in Ushuaia, his night at UNVRS and an after at Hi for all I care, luckily there are still some parties in Ibiza that gets my attention more.

It's a fair question, but let me ask you: did you see the traffic on this forum from 14:00 yesterday up until, well, now? We're still a week away from January payday for most..

That's the Cox effect

I'm going to guess we won't get that sort of reaction for [UNVRS]'s other, more current resident announcements

sorry for the off topic, but I felt that's me! I was 23 at Space closing... And yes, now I enjoy other places like Pikes, Destino...

Well I doubt I would have went to a night featuring a music act famous 9 years earlier in my youth :D

I am in my late forties now. No way I would have went to a concert of David Bowie (or whoever was famous back in 1985) in 1994. Although electronic music was all new back then, so there wasn't much of a "legacy" except for Kraftwerk and J. M. Jarre.

The only exception for me back then: Pink Floyd. But that's only because I have a special liking for their music, I understand it's not typical for people of my age.

No doubt Carl Cox will attract a lot of the older crowd, but is there enough older crowd to fill UNVRS? We'll see.

Fair comment. However, I think that the surprise at this night will be the cross-section of ages you will get there. There will be people in their 30s/40s with kids right now directing the family holiday to a Ibiza holiday to align with one of these nights - they get a baby-sitter for this, and have one HUGE night out. Was often the case when he was at Resistance 2017-19 too.

I never ever understood why Ibiza never announced the summer parties in January (they have started to), as at this time of year the WhatsApp groups come alive with "GOD we need to book a holiday to get my mind off this January gloom". Maybe that is a very UK / Northern Europe view, but it's a fact! And as @W_I_C said above, that Jan Pay-Day is coming soon!

I also think dance music followers are the one set of people that I never really hear say "OMG the age of that DJ". What other career in the world do you seem to get cooler the older you get? Really not sure anyone thinks about the age of Coxy, Sven, Digweed, DJ Harvey, and Guetta for that matter (he's almost 60). The fact that they have been doing it so long almost makes the appeal greater.

haha I was 37 at Space closing and I still feel too young for Pikes now! 😜

A bit disappointed about the Cox news due to his original stance on Hi etc but excited with all the changes.

I'm hopeful the other clubs will have more breathing space, gives opportunities to emerging nights and DJs.
I always seem to moan about no space to dance in clubs in ibiza so if this helps I wont complain.

To add to the above, and might be one for someone like @stivi to confirm - but Coxy has a huge Spanish following too right? Think we might be forgetting about that in all of this. And more Spanish holiday in Ibiza now than 10 years ago!

It's true it has generated lots of traffic and debates 😉 but again this answer my question, what is the average demographic of this forum? Or at least that of the people that usually post and get involved?

Are there any pictures of the building progress of UNVRS? Hows it looking at the moment?

Will all the events at UNVRS be allnighters, or will they host some day parties, which seem to be the trend in the UK these days

my personal feeling is that Ushuaia already stands to suffer enough as a result of [UNVRS] competition, let alone if it goes directly head-to-head. And, yes, day parties are currently in, but outside not stuck inside a vast roofed space, however new the decor might be.

I could be wrong, but that's my feeling.

personally I can't see them doing daytime events, they already have ushuaïa for that, IMO it wouldn't make any sense at all. as for building progress, from the outside it looks 'sturdier' now, more of actual proper walls on the building. haven't been very close though, it's just what I've seen from the main road the other day.

personally I don't think it's a nationalities question, but rather an age bracket one in this case. even though coxy might not be 'flavour of the day' for the youngsters, we mustn't forget he still is a big name internationally and especially for clubbers above 35 or so. and we all know that if there is one place in the world where people still go clubbing in their 40 and 50s...it is ibiza.

apart from the odd situation for coxy himself (because the way I see it he really didn't speak well about TNL generally when space closed and thus he definitely has shifted opinions during the past almost 10 years), I have to say it's a genius stroke from team TNL.

I'll tell you why, and you will all understand once the full weekly UNVRS line up is out. sundays is the only night I'm personally tempted to go. for me as a nearly 45yr old clubber, all other residencies they've got lined up, I could not be arsed to attend any of them. and I just know that a lot of 'older' clubbers will feel the same about that and say, 'ah well, it's coxy and like that we'll get to see what they've done to privilege, let's go on a sunday'.

100% THIS!

I’m happy to see Carl back on the Island but would have prefer at amnesia of course , he has choose Univers , it’s his choice and I respect it .

Now on the other hand I’m even more worried about Amnesia, they have already lost their 3 biggest night and now that Carl Cox is coming on sunday , it’s everything except a good news for Pyramid 🙈 this night will suffer a lot too ! I don’t know what amnesia are planning for this season but it will be very difficult for them that for sure !
