ibiza gossip 2022

Pretty sure I have paid £10 for a bottle of beer at ministry of sound in London and consistently pay around £14-£15 for a double gin and tonic in multiple bars and clubs around London. I'm not saying it's right but given these venues are some of the most sort after in world and other than Ushuaia/Hi you get a free poured drink which is usual much more than a standard double I don't actually think they're unfair prices. There are plenty of other holiday destinations offering 5 shots for a fiver if you want but if you want to see the best DJ's in the best venues then you have to pay for it which is no different to anywhere else in the world.

Unpopular opinion I know but if paying £14-£15 in London I don't see any reason why it should be cheaper in Ibiza when they only have 4-5 months a year to properly operate.

Anyway pre-empting @stivi telling us to get back to actual gossip and not talking about prices I'm hoping Sven/Cocoon & Dixon pop up somewhere even if just a few one offs. That Sven night at Underground last year is still one of my favourite events to date and would love something like that again!!

Never used to tip but started tipping 1/2 euros per round and genuinely does make a difference if you are looking for consistent service.

On your point above, being a bar person is hard enough anyway, especially when you are trying to make ends meet living on Ibiza! They are working that job more for the perks than the cash, which doesn't make them a charity case but don't assume they are making fortunes!
Yes…and it’s basically seasonal and part time! Saying that, the later it goes on in the night makes me think they really do fancy me!

Manumission entry was 10 000 pesetas.
60 euros, in 1995... 💵
I remember a local friend paying 10.000 pesetas for Manumission's closing party at Privilege around 1997 :!:

There was an interview with Andy some years ago where he admitted back then they were the first to charge those entry prices. Wish I could rememember where I saw it, it's probably linked in this forum somewhere...

It was clear that drink prices etc. would rise, but it will be interesting to see whether the clubs stack people on top of each other again without any regard for safety.

:lol::lol::lol:

I'll let you guys off for today, but tomorrow, strictly gossip again eh!

Yeah, I feel like I have woken up in 2010! HaHa.

I do not want to add much, but @stivi was spot on previously. We have (up to this point) not had much inflation over the last 20 years. Those times are changing - we likely to be at 10%+ this year.

So to get a €15 Vodka to your mouth in 2010 was a hell of a lot cheaper that it was in 2022 when you factor in wage inflation, rent inflation, fuel, all raw materials costs Etc.

I'd be interested to see an audit of what money goes into staff wages/admin/other overheads v costs of exorbitant DJ fees though. I'll guarantee the guy who serves you at the bar earns peanuts. Most people in Spain are paid peanuts. The government in Madrid set the minimum wage to approx 1000€/month. Try living on that! I totally get the seasonal argument for traditionally inflated prices, but I do wonder how much of that goes into actual workers' pockets? Especially when every year the big brands insist on bringing in the most famous (if musically least interesting..) people in the business (never those equally if not more talented local DJs with lower wage bills yet lower name recognition...) So I agree with whoever predicted the inflation will be astronomical because not only are gas bills rocketing but a whole load of DJs will be demanding extra wedge too.

Yeh spanish wages are a joke, that's why they still live with parents as no way they can afford to live alone

Years ago in Madrid I got offered for a job 800 a month, that's without tax! My Rent is 600 euros,

God much will pineapple juice be at dc10 now, 20 euros🤪

Well we were moving towards a post plastic bottle world in 2019, but I'd imagine it will all be cans of water or cardboard cartons of water this year - it is just not the same as putting a bottle of water in your back pocket!

Marky Ramone in Ibiza. Any info about Contrastibiza?
Contrast is a promoter from Mallorca, where they brought Jesse Malin (ex-D Generation), Greg Hetson (Bad Religion, ex-Circle Jerks), etc. Here they've only done one event so far with the singer of The Cardigans accompanied by the keyboardist of The Soundtrack of Our Lives.
