Definitely not arguing that. But I don’t really see how that has anything to do with the much smaller pool of female talent. Same thing happens in my industry. People wonder why it’s dominated by men, but when I get resumes its 10 male for every 1 female. Simple math really. Last thing I’ll say about that.

In the past few years, there have been plenty of women breaking through, yet this isn't reflected in many of the Ibiza line-ups. Jobs for the boys, eh?

Some people are just a bit bored of seeing the same white male faces each time.

Ibiza could do with being more creative in its line-ups. I understand that there are DJs who are a big pull but no reason not to have more up and coming DJs on the bill. Just lazy programming.
There are quite a few black djs that play in Ibiza.....considering there are not loads and loads of black djs that play techo/melodic etc, Carl cox had his own night for years, Idris plays there, black coffee has his own night and jamie Jones

Why bring race into it?

Because some line-ups aren't a true reflection of the scene. Frankie from Discwoman posted last week how few black artists there were on major line-ups (5 out of 110 at Awakenings, 11 out of 120 at Dekmantel).

Saying that it's due to talent isn't true as there are plenty of great artists to choose from.

I'm currently listening to Carista's (excellent) Essential Mix from Friday. Josey Rebelle is on the cover of DJ Mag this month.

There are PLENTY of women (& people of colour) to choose from who would really enhance line-ups, yet bro-moters lazily book the same old artists every time. I know there are certain artists who shift tickets but no excuse to not try to add some fresher, less obvious, names to the line-ups. At least Circo Loco are trying this, although suspect they know they will be packed each week regardless.

How many tourists are coming to Ibiza , to see the fresh and thrilling new DJs ? And how many come to Ibiza to see Guetta or something ?
How many Tourists can deal with underground sounds ? They ( 80 % of tourists )dont care about gender , race or quality of music.
Female Djs only have to look good in many opinions. Thats fact for the most big clubs in Ibz.
Thats the reason why Berghain is someting special . And thats the reason for their door politics ... impossible in Ibz

Don't really want to jump in on this debate but I think you answer your own question. Circo is packed pretty much every week regardless of the line up, and they don't have the worry of not being offered a residency the next year.

I'm pretty sure everyone will agree there just simply are not enough female DJs who could sell out venues on there own, not saying it's right that's just how it is. Just look at how many have their own residencies, very little indeed. Correct me if I am wrong but pretty much all the major techno/house residencies are focused around male artist. Again not saying it's right or wrong but that is simple what sells the tickets still. Yes there are a few exceptions but when you are curating a night that NEEDS to go well and make money or you risk getting the boot are you going to do the right thing and take a gamble trying to promote lesser know DJs, or book the ones you know will sell it out.

Maybe more focus needs to be on the likes of Amelie Lens, CDW and Peggy but in my opinion there are not enough female DJs in the same bracket of popularity as those 3 right now.
