Why do you guys think less ppl are coming to Cocoon? They usually only have 2-3 djs per room...do you think ppl don't care about longer sets anymore and just wanna see names on the lineup? Still hoping shit stays the same

it's a combination of factors. one, too many similar parties happening over the course of the whole week (also making other promoters such as mosaic, hyte and others suffer) and two and most importantly, circoloco. more specifically the fact that people nowadays go there for the actual night shift, turning up at 11pm or so and staying until the end, instead of what people used to do, rock up late afternoon and then switch over to amnesia come 2am. long time forumers on here have been doing this for ages (dc10 & cocoon combo), but the fact that dc10 now closes pretty much at the same time as amnesia and has their best acts playing peak time in the night just makes a lot of people stay at dc10. last year you could actually really feel this. cocoon had one of its strongest line ups ever of its past decade, but still, come 3/4am hardly anyone came in anymore - and that's when you used to get another 500-1000 or so people coming from dc10 until a few seasons back. this is actually not an assumption of mine, but an observation from the promoters themselves.

Things aren't looking so good for amnesia...Hyte gone, Cocoon may be gone, Paris party done, Cream falling apart. What are ppl doing instead??

it may seem so to you right now yeah. but a) let's wait and see what actually gets confirmed for the summer and b) they still have the two biggest parties on the island (music on & elrow) plus together has been going strong for years. so let's not jump to early conclusions.

Really baffles me how circo is trumping Cocoon. Dozens of DJs playing for an hour and half each (many B2B) or half a dozen playing extended sets? Surely it's a no brainer.
Plus circo's line-ups are arguably the weakest they've ever been.

Just seems bizarre to me.

Not like you can even say it's the allure of daytime partying, as pretty much all observations conclude it's essentially a night time event now.

i ve done Dc10 circoloco+ Cocoon (the one with Set Troxler Ricardo, big names but boring sets ) and Dc10 circoloco+ Pikes dj harvey
i won't choose a combo for sure...doing cocoon 17 closing too

i didn't like the 2cocoon parties (maybe i should pick main room? or taking drugs? :D as i was trying to get into it but can't even staying until the end...TBH 1hmax was fine
Circoloco is OK, rammy effect kill the mood for sure when garden close.
it looks like a party where all people cut a loose, lots of drugs in the air , far more than other night.

i think ill spend my monday in ibz chilling in sa Trinxa then Dc10 from 7pm to 7am , plan B Heart Ibz, plan C: Pikes hotel...

I think that reflects different customer wants. Longish meandering sets (especially early ones) are not for everyone. Some want big impact over a shorter period of time. One issue I have with nights inibiza is the number of events where everything is focussed on the headliner and everyone other dj restricted to effectively warming up. The whole night becomes condensed into 2-3 hours whenthe headliner is playing. There are far too many sets going absolutely nowhere over long periods of time with the dj playing within themselves. It isn’t new but it is getting worse imo.

I don’t agree about circo’s line ups though mate. I think they are inconsistent but often outstanding.

Totally agree re back to back sets.

Yeah, fair dos. It comes down to personal taste. I don't think they're bad line-ups at all. But like you say, they're inconsistent. (Unlike Cocoon which i think week-in, week-out are tremendously programmed). The circo line-ups which have grabbed me the past 2-seasons have been the ones where they've thought a little more outside the box.
But amid those there's been some terribly stagnant ones consisting of Seth, the Martinez Bros and loads of filler

not only the M bro bored me, add Damian Lazarus,Dj Tennis i won't say No to a change of circoloco main lineup...(more Jackmaster The black Madonnas among big names...& they may change djs at Garden as its always the same that open early..)
Jackmaster add a thing for Ushuaia closing 17

Totally agree. I’m not saying I don’t prefer the long set format but many don’t. But the longer format does become an issue when the set is all trough and no peak. It tends to happen where the promoter is the headliner. And they are clearly being restricted with a brief not to peak, not to go past a certain bpm and often with lower volume. They are have to comply or risk not being rebooked. Standing in amnesia, Pacha or space at 3.30am on holiday and listening to this isn’t fun imo. Same at ants. It’s nothing new though.

if you're on an intense druggy journey on a dancefloor, you really don't give a shit who is playing or for how long, provided the music sounds good and flows. true fact, kids... i've seen so many masters over the years who played on rotation and you barely noticed who was on because ferrer, sydenham, claussell, kevorkian, chandler et al all had similar tastes in music and developed a symbiotic kinetic understanding (see also ame, dixon, schwarz, worgull or red axes, juju & jordash, dekmantel, young marco) because they're all buying the same records from the same stores. there is telepathic understanding almost.

the catastrophic nights are the ones who give an hour each to people with nothing in common with each other or whether there is little mutual respect or history but who are bundled together because they put bums on seats. worst of all are the warm up guys with the big egos who are already banging it out by midnight

Circo regulars can confirm whether their lineups work. I often see names of awesome selectors and others who are not so awesome on the same lineup and inevitably wonder how on earth it all flows together

Cocoon has always been a two-room event... and two large rooms at that. If they move to Pacha they've only really got the one main room as the capacity of the funky room from memory was very small so surely if this goes ahead they are going to have to massively strip back the selection of artists they can invite. It would also restrict how many residents they have (Villalobos, Hawtin, Beyer etc) so how many of them will stay?

Also if Circoloco is causing them problems... why not simply switch nights? I understand its great to do the combination, but for the sake of them staying at Amnesia would a night switch not be more beneficial?

If this does by chance happen and they do leave for Pacha... I honestly put that on the same scale as Space closing. A massive change for the island - certainly for people who have been coming for years and look forward to Mondays for the Circo>Cocoon combo as I do.

no matter the outcome of the cocoon story...pacha as a venue might surprise a lot of people this coming summer. I really can't say more about cocoon and/or pacha refurbs right now I'm afraid, but let's just say I've heard some very interesting stuff.

If Pacha is being given some form of refurb that would mean increase capacity and/or rooms that would slightly change things but nonetheless its never going to be Amnesia in both size and feel. Either way we will have to wait and see... but this has certainly ramped up the gossip front. There was me thinking this was going to be a season of little change, this could be huge!

Pacha had a horrible soundsystem... i don't really care about vip stuff or not but the sound o_O
lots complain about Hi soundsystem here but no one complained about Pacha ...
is there any people who has been to Pacha? :D

Pacha main room soundsystem for me is the best on the island no questions asked... closely followed by Amnesia main room. Literally blows me away when your on the centre of the dancefloor.
