*** ibiza 2018 observations ***

Has anyone heard Themba? Mates were at hi ans said he was really good. They thought he was Black coffee until black coffee then came on... very irish if not mildly Racist.

Yeah that's what I did. Even though Solomun at Amnesia Terrace was really tempting, lineup at Circo was too good to ignore
He played a much better set at Amnesia than he did the night before. Was in two minds whether to go, went to circoloco and didn’t stay too long after the garden closed. It was rammo in there and some of our group weren’t up for getting barged around all night, so we switched. As WIC has already alluded to, some of the other acts were great. Really liked Magdalena, thought she was spot on. And the fact you had space to dance was a massive bonus.

Any reports on Hawtin's set? Saw him recently in Glasgow where I thought he was good. I know he polarises opinion this forum though.

Not my cup of tea to be honest, but maybe that was just me. The two prior sets were a lot better in my opinion.

Bouncers are catching people taking drugs on the dance floor and then telling them if they want to stay in they have to pay 50 euros

So its easy to get in with ya contraband items but if its out for all to see then theres a bribe put in place.. shit... best take out a bank loan of the toilet ques in clubs are anything to go by

I lost my patience with the DC10 bouncers slightly last night, was sick of them patrolling the packed dancefloor that when one was barging past, I pretended not to see him and left my shoulder in and he obviously he was not happy and walloped me in the back a few times while shining the light in my face. Not wise to do but it was a funny moment.

Have to be back as I was really cooked 2h00am
@Nobbie Q don't forget to show up early this time such 8h00 pm and not after 11pm...

Well I told you I'd come at 11. I had no interest in Richie. I came even later at like 1145ish so that sucks I know, I was later than when I told you I'd be there. Sorry man, but we did chill a but! I'll only come early if the lineup interests me and if I'm not too wasted.

But FGP has a point about the music. I'm a big techno and deep tech fan and when me and FGP went to see Patrice Baumel, music was good but a bit opener and warm upish despite him most likely playing some unreleased tracks. Ben UFO before him had more energy so it made him worse. Both Maceo and Damian had some big slow spots that was making me thinking of leaving the sardine can but they played some good stuff too that also interested me

DC10 would be such a better club if they limited the capacity and hired a new security staff.

It is beyond a joke really. The problem isn't DC10 or the security though. The issue is the people that decide to go back year after year to cram themselves into those rooms after midnight.

I would love to know though if they are breaking capacity. I get the impression that due to the size of the garden it pushes the capacity up huge. Remove the garden capacity and you would get into those rooms

I'm assuming Pyramid next Monday is going to be very quiet given that Circoloco lineup.

Depending on the set times we are undecided on whether to stay and do a full Circoloco session or to do the usual and leave around 2AM for Amnesia. I'm just concerned its going to be flat in there, which can be the case when Amnesia terrace is half empty.

... also on the Pyramid note I know we are heading into peak season and some of their more interesting dates but from a commercial/numbers perspective can Cocoon leaving and the numbers that Pyramid are bringing in be considered a successful move? I only attended the opening party and for me, it was very quiet. Musically great but far quieter than any Cocoon I've ever attended throughout a season.

I'd like to think they are testing the waters to see what works and what doesn't in looking for a longterm replacement, similar to what Pacha did with Insane in 2016. Or maybe it's a case of biding time until another brand becomes available? That said, I'm not sure they can say they've found the right fit yet.

If the longterm vision is to make a go of things with Pyramid, I'd be inclined to give it a bit more continuity and identity next time. Maybe have guest parties on rotation in the terrace, but install a weekly "host" in the club room?

All very valid points @white_isle_calling!

I suppose the reality is it's very uncommon to have a night last as long as Cocoon did so it's a huge hole to fill. I adore Cocoon at Pacha, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I would still love to be planning a Circoloco>Cocoon doubleheader this coming week.

Personally from a musical perspective, I think some weeks really are superb, but it seems to be that a lot of the videos I see or reviews I read are about the club being half capacity despite the lineups. Maybe its also to do with the island being quieter in general but it feels/sounds like something is missing, but I suppose that was to be expected during their first season.
