I had to get this off my chest - my holiday sucked

the problem with San trinxa for me is that its so god damn busy and the music doesnt seem as chilled out during the day as in previous years. it's far too relentless

Space has been consistently bad the last few times i've been (people, music, "new" terrace) - i'll admit that leaving and going to Bora Bora was the only time my day was saved.

Maybe it's just Space that i'm so bitter and angry about.

i'll admit i've probably changed as well - but i think me and the island are heading in opposite directions at high speed!

Sa Trinxa music is perfect. I would actually say that is one of my favourite places on the Island.

I too have gone right off Space, but I need to give other nights a go. I think it is just We Love that I don't like

"just cos we live in a capitalist society doesnt mean i enjoy being mugged my an entire island!! if it was so great we'd all live in Las Vegas and be done with it"

from your descriptions i doubt if you saw even 1% of the island. it seems to me that you only saw one side of a many facetted island and unfortunately for you it was the wrong one. unhappily as you can't be arsed looking for the right side you'll never know what you missed - crystal clear clean waters, beautiful countryside, tranquil places and restaurants where the staff are genuinely happy to see you, the price is reasonable and the food and service excellent. that's the ibiza i live in

Hey! I’ll have you know I have trawled the island for the last 11 years and I think I’ve seen a fair bit. Not all of it no doubt. The fact is you live there and so of course you know the good side to it. I felt defensive when I live in Rome and peple said they didn’t have a good time – for the same reasons I am grumbling about Ibiza

Unfortunately the place is overrun by people who are willing to pay for style over substance.

Of course there are good bits – otherwise noone would live there! but as I said – were it not for the nights out I think you can beat the water/ countryside and restaurants by going elsewhere. The fact is that the nights out are no longer a sure bet…

My perfect trip would have been:
- motorbike
- countryside retreat
- restaurants where the emphasis is on the food and a smile
- one night of uplifting house and happy people
- beaches without throbbing music and smiling deck chair people

now I know all of that is achievable – and I got parts of it last time.

Anyway – I’m not here to upset everyone about hteir lives. As MarkB says – lucky bugger.

i think when dishing out superlatives best, highest, most beautiful etc you can probably better ibiza on every occasion, possibly with the exception of our clubbing scene. however even without our world famous discos i think there's a feeling and atmosphere (like a vibe man) that can't be found anywhere else - certainly not in the mediterranean even though many people say that without the clubs ibiza wopuld be just another med resort. i don't think that's true.....there's something intangible about the place.
practically speaking you don't have to avoid many places to find what per niente is looking for - quiet beaches, polite people, lovely restaurants and country retreats - they're here in abundance and you don't have to look far to find them.

.

Yup, godamn those bastards smiling in their deckchairs:twisted:

i agree with their being something "different" about ibiza - my own feeling is that it's losing it (sorry), or rather it's mutating into something less benevolent (er....??)

i have to disagree that it's easy to find the good bits. not impossible, but harder than it should be. ok let's put it this way, you're more likely to stumble into somewhere that's going to leave you feeling like the good lord gipped you, than not.

i like to think i've tried a fair few of the suggestions on the site. so there's two possibilites 1) i'm a miserable, over fussy sod (all true) 2) i picked badly (unlikely - see previous point) 3) an "alternative" section for more chilled out visits - i think the scope at the moment is quite broad so it's hard to be sure what you'll get..(that's enough being constructive)

the biggest problem is that the places i describe are by far the most visible - AND there are more of them than i think you are willing to admit. let's face it it's not a big island.

anyway. i think i've flogged this one to death.

be happy. i've got to go to Bolton on a stag do this weekend. we're staying at the bolton wanderers stadium hotel :(

Now THAT'S karma

stag do at bolton palais
him. "hey, you wit red dress, you dancin?"
her. "i'm not dancin with a kid!"
him. "sorry love, didn't realise you were pregnant"

boom boom!

sounds like you actually went to all the places you despise so much

if you're not going back to ibiza at least stick around on the board, i like your caustic tone!

(hands away from my nob tho)

You have made a few fair points, but I can't help but think your kind of having an arguement with yourself. :?

If you don't like it so much don't go, it's simple. 8)

At last,

Someone willing to say what they feel - I did the same about 2 or 3 years ago - my gripe was of a similar vibe, prices, arrogant people, bad bar staff etc. However since then I have been back and I have just decided to get used to it!

I got slated for my comments. I still love Ibiza but I can see the crap side too. The homeymoon was over for me a long time ago (9 visits since 1998)...however I still see the island as my spiritual home and love it dearly, I just accepted the good with the bad.

Not going this year but next year staying in Formentera as I am going with my mum who is 50 and she fell in love with Formentera on the couple of visits we have went on and wanted somewhere a bit special to stay this time.

I think most people on here do say what they think.... Don't they...

As you have said what you felt before was slated - Does slated actually mean other people saw things different from you?

One persons oyster is anothers persons lobster and all that....?

You do need to get out and about a bit. If you spend all your time in Ibiza/PdB/San An then you miss some nice culinary and beachgoing experiences. One of the nicest meals I had this past trip cost around 40 euros for two (thanks Stephen!).

Even in the resort areas, there's plenty of good places around to eat at reasonable prices. You went to high-end restaurants expecting a panacea when, in fact, it's more simple places that often offer the best service/quality/value proposition. Ya, the Italians are great (and you are WAY off base about the Greeks) but there's great food in Ibiza too. I gained 2 kilos this past trip!

I agree that the electro sound got a bit overdone on the island this year, but don't put your dislike for it down to your age. I'm a few years older than you and I like that sound... within limits. I also enjoy straight-up house music... There are plenty of nights at Pacha or El Divino... actually, there're parties in all the clubs where you can get that so if you were stuck on the Space terrace all night waiting for "Put 'em High" then you were likely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm not into long posts but having read all through the post, I did find myself nodding quite a bit. This year was my 8th year on the island and I can honestly say, the days of yesteryear were a lot better - that's not to say I didn't have a good time this year because I did, and I shall be returning.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect you for expressing yours here.

With regards to twats on the terrace, what part of Space exactly is the terrace? Is it the place on the left, or the place on the right, or is it the one upstairs?

Haven't read this whole thread but get the general gist.

Ibiza is what you make it, of course it's going to change over the years, everything evolves. I've noticed lots of changes over the 10 years I've been going to Ibiza (some good some not so good) but you either embrace the changes or turn into one of those whinging moaners going on about 'It wasn't as good back in the day' And when you're saying that maybe it's you that's changed more than Ibiza has changed ;)

There's lots of things I wish were still as how they were in Ibiza but then again there's been lots of new and exciting changes over the years but if you don't like them then no-one is forcing you there.

i agree, if you dont like a place dont go back,no one is making you go, I am going back this year for the 5th year running( even went twice in 2003), with my bf and 6 other mates, i love the place, and would'nt change it for the world
roll on Aug 27th back home for 2 more weeks.
