I am pretty sure that PdB is a natural sandy beach. of course it's possible (and likely) that they add sand if winter storms take a lot of sand away, but originally, I'm sure it's not a fake sandy beach. not least because even if you see some really antique pictures of pdb, it was always a sandy beach (not like other places on the island where the beach was man-made!). I lived in PdB for a while a few years ago and the tracks you can see on the picture above are made by the tractor that cleans the beach every night in summer. also, at the end of the summer (basically just around the dates the storm came last weekend), the authorities cover the beach with seaweed over the winter. the seaweed actually protects the sand on the beach from getting taken away by storms. the storm last weekend took a lot of sand away in a lot of places - and what comes to show below is either earth or rocks. but every sandy beach in the world will have one of both below at some point.
