Hip Hop?

You will have a good time no matter where you go. I like funky house and stick to that for the most part, but I took some friend to Soul city and the west end we had a good time. firefighter you know you just enjoy what you like.

Thanks man! You're the only one that seems to understand that. I'm totally planning on having the most amazing time of my life regardless of what music is playing...WOOHOO!!!

I hear ya.....but I can't just listen to one type of music the whole time I'm there. Sometimes I need a break from the dance music. I dont intend to spend my two weeks in any ONE spot based on music. I go all over the place. The hip hop for me is a nice reprieve when I've had my fill of dance music...thats all.

ah! I see. Well i can't recall hearing any hip hop in bar or club. I did hear some hip hop around the back of the Jet Apartments, but i think it was a gym or someone's hotel room!

I'd say an awful lot of house has been influenced by Kind of Blue somewhere down the line.

Possibly the most important album of the 20th century no?

and i'd say there's a difference from influencing someone to collaborating with them. i've no idea about your claim as i've never been able to listen to more than 20 seconds of any house music track - it sets my teeth on edge and my nerves jangling. no idea why, i can't even go in a shop with it on.

Different strokes I guess.

Hip hop has a fingernails down a blackboard effect on me so I understand the nervy teeth angst if not the house sentiment.

[sigh] ok maybe it's time to get 'serious' on this thread. I find all the talk of 'is it dance' 'is it hophop' really frustrating. Growing up in the late 80s & early 90s these sorts of artificial distinctions didn't really exist and so I think it's great that in London town there still are events every weekend where you will hear disco, electro, funk, acid, afro, techno all thrown in together, seamlessly blended to cause maximum festive impact. Now perhaps someone can come on here and prove me wrong but there seems to be a gap in the ibiza market for genuine freestyle parties where DJs are given artistic licence to play whatever they like. I personally think there IS room to incorporate elements of hiphop into any party and here are some examples of tracks which I think really rock ANY kind of discerning floor

students of djs like greg wilson will know exactly where I'm coming from

young mc - i get off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8srtQ7cDNE

delicious sample of aaron neville's 'hercules' - this used to knock me sideways. I still have people coming up to me sometimes going ollyollyoxenfree :)

beastie boys - new york city (with rub n tug steve miller macho city overlay) - http://mirrormanrecords.com/?pid=23330517

nas get down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFQfQD2c47g

a mate used to bring his set down with this halfway through a load of anonymous house - total pandemonium in the place every time

younger generation - we rap more mellow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxoB-bs0U0M

big, big greg wilson tune, which joey negro turned into a bit of a disco stomper - remember losing the plot in a field at the big chill when this came on

and there's plenty of ways to ease you into a hiphop moment - consider this track sagat 'fuk dat' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHCe-Lepxds massive in 1993, hiphop sentiments laid over a pitched down US house track - and then before you know it, you're into jvc force territory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4SydcL9OLE then pitch it right up towards the end of the track et voila
coldcut - (totally pioneering) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Jm_O2HtdI
and then bring it back into the house and the present day with this cheeky edit of MARRS (like rocky did last week at lowlife) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fvZpUplFpA

and do you know by the end of all that none of the crowd will give a monkeys whether it's house or hiphop
