here we go again…2008 ibiza opening parties reviews! (continuous)

Just a few more opening parties to go! On Thursday night, another one at space happened:

So…yes, I was well curious to see how this new night would work! Thursday is one of the strongest nights already (with cream at amnesia, FMIF at pacha and monza at privilege) and in the past we already had seen big dj names fail a bit on that night (remember VIVA 2006 with steve lawler?). sure, Danny Tenaglia is most definitely a big name DJ, but with the two facts of a) competing against 3 really strong nights on the island and b) starting at a point where the island just gets really going (after a quiet june IMO), I had my doubts space would be really busy that night.

I wasn’t wrong. but read on, I’ll explain you everything. First off, the DT night begins at 6pm. I only arrived just before midnight. And until that time it would have been the sunset terrace and afterwards the main terrace. but as it hadn’t been busy enough yet, they moved from sunset terrace into “El salon” until midnight and from midnight onwards, the main terrace was the thing going. So when I arrived, el salon just finished and everybody was moving on the main terrace. elio riso played the first half hour on the main terrace an then it was wally lopez who took over for two and a half hours! His set was really great and kept people going. Speaking about people, they were just arriving from after midnight onwards and the main terrace only got nicely busy that night. All the rest of the club was closed. Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely positive this night will work a treat in a few weeks time (on other internet sources you can see they also plan to open up every room in high season), but the opening party surely wasn’t the expected big success. Still, when DT arrived in the DJ booth just before 3am, the clown as ever, people cheered wally lopez goodbye and danny welcome. I didn’t get much more of DT’s set because I had to leave soon, but I am sure I’ll be back at space on a Thursday soon to see things are looking much better and to listen to more of DT stuff!

well,taking a look at the line ups for the rest of the season and considering the fact that Thursday is a night with many competitors.i'd expected them to be a bit stronger...:rolleyes:

Yes other competition around-- but personally think it was perfect.

It was a success.

Have seen DT all over - during many years of 'dancing and prancing', not just in Ibiza-- and the 'Be Yourself' party is truly special. Thought the crowd and numbers were right for the night. At least you could move/dance! and not get totally rammed. Not everyone will get it but that's always the way. But moreover the music was on point and whole night just great, great fun.

Here's to a great first DT residency @SPACE, after such a long wait. :):):)

Playing Discoteca during August according to Ibiza Voice news--check--- was closed on Thursday- presume they did not expect enough people attending at present to warrant opening it?.
Should be fab too once Discoteca open.

two more biggies finally started the season - and both in a successful way!


Tiesto „In Search Of Sunrise“ Opening Party, Mon July 7

We arrived at Privilege at around 12:30h. There were many people arriving at that time and I thought entry went quite fast, the Privi guys did their utmost to get people in withouth having to wait for hours. As last year, when Tiësto played twice in Privilege in August, the DJ booth was at the very end of the room, where there also was a huge LED-wall and the glass wall to the cocoloco room was opened so you could enjoy the main room sound even in cocoloco (through the cocoloco soundsytem as well). DJ Le Blanc was warming up with some housey tunage until tiesto arrived short after 1am. Quickly, it got very busy in Privilege and one thing we all noticed was the fact that it was SO HOT inside Privi! I don’t know why it was, but it just was a few degrees too hot in the main room. But we were ready to enjoy the show so, while were sweating away, we concentrated on tiesto, who was beginning with mellow trancey tunes, much stuff of his new ISOS 7 compilation.

At around 2:30am, the main room was in full swing, tiesto went for it, people enjoyed a trip trough the world of trance and most people loved it. Tiesto also played older stuff (his “lethal industry” was a goosebump moment in a full privilege main room) and basically, it was all upfront trance music (I remember a really good remix of his own “in the dark”). When we once went to “la vaca” (the backroom), we explored electric background with Nick “bodyrox” Bridges playing there (just dropping Prydz’ Pjanoo when we were there). But most of the time, we stayed in the main room, enjoyed the music and the visuals on the LED-wall.


A really successful opening night for tiesto! We didn’t stay till the end, because at around 5am, our desire for a change of spot got too big. We knew cocoon at amnesia has a killer line up that night so we made the quick drive over to Amnesia. Sven Väth in the full main room (Richie Hawtin had played earlier, apparently better than the week before) and Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano back to back on an absolutely packed terrace! that’s where we found our friends and stayed there, enjoying great music. Surprise of the night was Luciano dropping the Original version of “The Age Of Love” – can you imagine the whole terrace going bonkers to that?!!! :eek::twisted:

Mondays in Ibiza rock! Both Privi and Amnesia were full and I predict it will stay like this for the rest of the season. I don’t know about Pacha that night, I just heard MN2S at El Divino were well suffering from these two big nights…
Talking to various people, I got mixed reviews about tiesto opening. I personally liked it a lot – it was exactly what I had expected. Many others loved it a lot, others didn’t…maybe other people will add their reviews here.



Carl Cox Opening Party, Tue July 8

After just a few hours sleep and a very busy day, I was already very tired in the evening. So I knew I would go to Space only for a bit that night because I was just too tired. finally, I arrived at space at around 2am. Inside, Green Velvet was playing full power techno music and the discoteca was packed! On the new terrace, James Lavelle was doing his job, this terrace wasn’t as full as the inside. We had a drink and when we went into the discoteca room again short after 3am, we already heard Carl Cox doing his MC’ing “Welcome Space Ibiza 2008, oh yes oh yes oh yes” :lol: people had a blast, but I left soon as I was just too tired. But hey, there are many Tuesdays still to come and even better guests playing at Cox’ night, so I’ll be back soon for sure! 8)

nostrum, I don't want to read your Carl Cox reviews.. I still haven't decided if I should come mid September or at the end... you know me and my indecisive-ness! :confused: :lol:
 
Good to hear Tiesto is playing his older stuff still. I think his night at Privilege will be in the top 3 by the end of the season. Carl Cox & Cocoon being the other 2! :)

Haha I can't go to the closers now- well I can go, but I can't get a plane to take me home... Hmm maybe not a bad thing! :lol:

Nostrum what were the numbers like for Tiesto? Was Privilege close to capacity?
