Glitterbox 2018

"bitter old nerd fart" ha ha! - I need that on a t-shirt

my point still stands though. that is utter shit and you know it

I'd advise anyone to skip the cheese nights and bookmark Horsemeat, Harvey and Heidi for real underground disco

Underground disco is right up my street. Does this Heidi have a second name or just Heidi? (Love the others)
Ps also love your feisty posts!

i went to see horsemeat disco at glitterbox 2015. had a great time.

i accept its not to everyone's taste and some of the lineups are too mainstream or cheesy for lots of people on here.

but think in terms of demand and supply.....the island has been awash with techno for years. defected has spotted a gap in the market and exploited it well in my opinion. most punters are on holiday and looking for fun times, remember, and we all have fun to different kinds of music.

like it or not, glitterbox exists in ibiza because they can sell the tickets. same as music on, same as cocoon, same as swag (dons tin helmet)

fact is the clubs and promoters are in it for $$, not to push the various musical genres. for sure they certainly don't seem interested in a balearic sound to me.

anyone wanting true cutting edge/non-cheese/super underground music will struggle more to find it in ibiza's main clubs with every passing year.

ta

Heidi Lawden (not the Heidi who used to work at Phonica) - she's played on the west coast gay scene for years and knows her shit - great booking imo.

100% spot on. always pointless moaning about things going too commercial (might as well try and hold back the sea) but I flagged up FGP's video because I had thought glitterbox were trying to redress the balance this year - but like I said earlier, I think the cooler stuff will come later in the season

Ah yes I see they all play sept 21st damn it :( I’m in ibiza mid July. Now I can be the qween of cheese on occasion, but I don’t want to hear the same old tunes from years ago all night.

what's frustrating for me is that I think there is a market for the really cool druggy disco I'm into but the clubs are too scared of putting obscure names on. I've often been at a BBQ or party or something and played obscure music to people outside the scene and had people asking WTF is that and really liking it but there's no real outlets for them to hear it unless they're at a specialist festival or night in London and a handful of other places. And it's nuts because this music to my ears is about as fun and camp and Ibiza as it gets. People like Crazy P, Greg Wilson and Todd Terje, Harvey even? kind of crossed over but there are plenty of others I know who deserve to be heard. The disco nerds I know have worked really hard to smash the tired afro-wig/bee gees/village people bullshit stereotypes the high street still has about disco and maybe it is a good thing keeping it underground but that means that there's few options in Ibiza and mainland alike, so obv something like Glitterbox feels like a golden opportunity to push something new, but who's gonna take the risk? this is the problem... maybe Cafe Malanga or Pikes is a better bet? maybe Melon bomb too?

Parisian friend is mixin in all places that gives chances to green grass djs

any links to mixes or tunes/labels so i can check this stuff out?

What are Glitterbox like on set times this year? I see DJ Harvey is down to play on the 21st September. Is he likely to get a decent amount of time to play, or is it all 1 hour sets / cram as many DJs as you can on the lineup sort of thing.

Saw he played Pacha on Saturday night for 1 hour and 15 mins at something like 1am. Pretty pointless IMO.

PS - unfortunately I'm not on the island on the Monday to catch him at Pikes.

I'd be surprised if he got more than 90mins to play considering the fact there are 9 artists on the bill for that night.

Hi @Naive Melody are you 1. a talking heads fan and/or 2. anything to do with the Naive Melody night in Manchester? I met some guys connected to that in Ibiza in 2010 and was joining the dots!

yeah it is too short, so I'd guess he's more likely to play disco 45s than the long expansive chuggers or extended edits you get at Pikes. I certainly know which I prefer!
