Glasto

No luck for our group, we were in Dubai, another couple in Morocco and last couple at home. I had green 5 bars 😔

Happy for mates in different groups who got them though, especially some big fans who have missed out last 3 times 😎

Tiesto hinting he will make his first appearance in an interview, hope and pray he's got his old Trance USB and not the USB from the last 10 years or so!

I'm not a fan of the chanting done by Bob Vylan. Seems to have been close to or actually inciting violence, all depending on one's definition.

I appreciate artistic liberty, but there's a line that shouldn't be crossed. Especially on stage at a large event.

bullshit. thousands of people (incl young kids) are being murdered by the IDF every month. Where's your outrage at that?

the point is that away from the headline performers, it's still a lefty/edgy festie where radical, provocative performers will let off steam. How literally you want to take them depends on your level of stupidity. I mean there's a rapper called Pablo Hasel who has spent 3 years in a Spanish jail ffs for writing lyrics inciting violence against the Guardia Civil and the King. Some fat dopey stoner who was obviously no threat to anyone.

"Guns don't kill people. Rappers do.." etc

I flit between thinking that Bob Vylan went a bit far in what he said and how I wouldn't say it like that ( I wouldn't), and remembering what the IDF get up to in both Gaza and the west bank (having watched documentaries like the two Louis Theroux ones on the subject and No Other Land, and also actually hearing stories from a friend who spent time in the west bank helping Palestinians). I caught the livestream of the set, purely by chance really. Obviously I was thinking "someone's going to get into trouble for this"!

Also sort of connected to politics (thinking about trans rights and where they are headed), I checked out the end of Kae Tempest's set (again, more out of interest than it being the sort of music I'd normally go for) and found it profoundly moving. I should make the time to watch the rest.

It's about where you draw the line with free speech. Should there be a line?

Huge culture war going on here in the UK with the perception that people are being thrown in jail just for tweeting things (one very valied case especially). So, Kneecap and Bob Vylan (who I loved musically) were bound to stir up controversy.

obv there are limits eg. where there is libel/slander or a wikileaks style exposure of undercover agents, or if someone actually shares someone's private address

but I think general shouting by a musician isn't an issue in itself. It's happened in music since forever... Public Enemy, NWA, or the smiths calling for Thatcher to be guillotined. who actually follows through? the audience for this stuff are harmless students

Bob Vylan have just had their US visas revoked (tour was due to start soon) as well as being dropped by their agent. Ffs...was it all worth it?

How many people had heard of Bob Vylan prior to this? I suspect they will be able to find a new agent and play bigger gigs than they were playing before. Any criticism of the US or Israel now risks a ban from getting into the US. (I suspect they even trawl social media accounts.) I think I'd rather keep my right to criticise - I have absolutely no desire to go to the US at the moment (not that I have ever have really, but especially not now  ).
