Films....

It's not that old, about 3 or 4 years I think.. I'm always trying to get people to watch it so they can share my disgust!

I'll be sure to let you know what I think....=) You ever here of a movie called "Cannibal Holocaust"? Think it came out in 1980. Supposedly, some of the scenes were so realistic they actually tried to prosecute the film makers. Then they banned the movie. I've never seen it, but they say it's the most controversial movie of all time.

I don't think it is just about the horror though it's not that scarey but has a good story. Emma it is a must-see!

You're right. The Lost Boys is as much a teen/comedy/'let's sell the kids a a soundtrack' film as a horror.

If you want a good horror try " the descent" it's fantastic and pretty full on, it's about 6 girls that go pot holing in some unexplored caves, the first half is quite gentle then it goes off silly.

Seen it!

It's truly difficult to find good horror these days. Some of the Japanese flicks are pretty damn creepy which is why alot of them are being redone in the US. I still go with the classics. Exorcist, Amittyville Horror (original), Salem's Lot (original). Most of the horror these days relies on special effects and gore. Most of what made the old ones so creepy is the things you never saw. OH, "The Entity" is a good one too. Yeah, I'm a fan of horror movies.

Saw The Entity recently and thought it was okay, if slightly laughable in places. If you want a good dose of horror these days, look towards France and films like 'Martyrs' and 'Switchblade Romance'.

The descent is scarey particularly the last scene of the film! Especially if you are slightly claustrophobic! I agree about special effects I dont like them I often find that the eerieness of halloween and Friday the 13th was what made it scarey, theres something creepy about old films with sh*t effects.

A newer film I did find very weird and scarey even with effects was Silent Hill

The most awful film I've ever seen which bothered me for some time after is Eden Lake, it almost made me angry that it was released.. I think it's quite an irresponsible film!

I turned off Silent Hill after a while. Seemed to me to be a boring rip-off of Clive Barker/Lucio Fulci type stuff.

I thought Eden Lake was great - disturbing, tho!

The Thing is older but to me it is a classic horror film. The omen remake was also good. Another film to take a look at is the Others with Nicole Kidman

Love The Thing. :D  The effects still astonish today - very imaginative - and the atmosphere is spot on.

There is one "gorey for it's time" bit in the lost boys where they eat the gang of baldy men and rip their heads off but you can't see it very well and compared to todays Saw's and Hostel's it is nothing, TLB is more about the nstory than being scarey. As for Eden Lake it's not a horror and I wish more people had seen it so I could discuss my anger lol it just shook me a bit how graphic and real it was

The Lost Boys was always a 15 cert, so not really that gory even in its day.

Discussed earlier in this thread. If you've seen the uncut version, all the stuff depicting violence towards animals is real. I've only seen the cut version and I'm gonna leave it that way. It's nasty, but i'd argue worth seeing as an early 'reality' horror film.

Not seen eden lake, isn't the young lad out of " This is england" in it?

A couple of my favourites of the last few years.

Man On Fire-Denzel Washington, sen it lots of times and still love it.

Fish Tank- Not an easy one to watch but very gritty and real.

Dead Man's Shoes- A Shane meadows classic and quite disturbing in it's own way.

Hunger-About Bobby sands and the hunger strikes.

Wonderland- About john holmes when he finished making porn.

Dead Man's Shoes is a really good film although I thought Gary Stretch could have endured a worse death, such a good twist at the end I was watching the film thinking 'Ants brother' was going a bit over the top but the ending is very sad.

I just wiki'd the Cannibal Holocaust - really want to watch that now and I still haven't even got round to watching Irreversable

I adore Dead Man's Shoes. It's my favourite recent(ish) film. There's not much to it, yet I could watch it over and over. I love Paddy C.'s performance, the soundtrack, the way it begins with a strain of humour and by the end is quite emotionally wrenching.

Another creepy one to watch is Lost Highway - actually might be my favourite David Lynch film and so one of my fave films ever - but it's a proper head f***.

I can admire Eraserhead, but it's not really a film I've bonded with.

My favourite Lynchs are:
Blue Velvet
Wild at Heart (a 'fun' one!)
Lost Highway
Twin Peaks: Firewalk With Me (very dark)
The Elephant Man (*sob*)

Each of those would probably find a space in my top 10 films of all time.

I've seen fire walk with me (f'd up agreed!) and wild at heart some of blue velvet recently but I think I saw it a long time ago and the end of the original Twin Peaks movie just freaks me right out. Love the weirdness of Lynch I can imagine how some people wouldn't even give 5 minutes of their time to his films though!
