Exchange rate

Highly recommend the Revolut app and card. Great app, brilliantly designed so it's very user friendly and also offers better rates than many other operators. Currently over 1.17.

This.

The fianceé and I had this for our trip last week. Very easy to top up, and you can also transfer money to each other using the App very easily.

I set up a payment from mobile banking on my phone to pay the Halifax Clarity minutes after I have withdrawn from an ATM as they charge interest immediately (no fee though). Just another tip folks to reduce costs.

Used this in the past but it does show up as a cash advance on your credit history. We're in the process of buying a house so not going to risk putting cash advances on a credit card right now! I do have a nationwide flexplus account though which gives almost the same rate of exchange when withdrawing from my current account.

Going to buy my tickets in advance this year using my clarity card though for sure!

yes but you get charged for the cards used.but like you say a better rate.

There's no charges with the Halifax Clarity (other than interest) nor the Flexplus debit card. It's the fact that cash withdrawals on a credit card are seen as a "negative" on your finances, ie having to rely on withdrawing cash from a credit card.

I've used the clarity card for withdrawals in Ibiza last year and paid it off almost immediately, but as I said, we're buying a house at the moment so don't want to risk any flags being raised :)

I still had a fair bit left from June where i got 1.25, a bit more at 1.19 last week.

Hoping it creeps back that way soon

with the spate of robbings etc i would just get money out every few days from an atm and accept the charge. surely we are only talking bout like 10 quid max difference for a holiday which is less than a drink in a club

Yeah we just ended up loading the card each day and taking money out every morning from an ATM near the hotel. No money left in the hotel safe, no money on the card and if anyone nicks something from the beach, tomorrow is another day and another budget. Sad but you save up for a long time for your holiday or holidays depending on many you have per year, but someone will potentially want a piece of that for free and not just in Ibiza but any resort or city. So always prepare for those bastards.

Dont tell me that safes in the room are likely to be robbed? Surely if that happens the hotel must be held accountable? Or am i being rather naive?
