Drugs Information Program.
Consisting of health, hygiene, addiction & personal safety information in 6 languages to be displayed in the clubs on the island as well as information to staff on how to administer first aid to a drug overdose victims, the disco association has signed an agreement with the Balearic Government to increase the level of consciousness about illegal drugs amongst the clients using their establishments. This agreement appears to be in response to the recent drug problems on the island & will be built into the new drug dependence laws being drawn up by the Balearic Government.

Cheers McRackin, that was incredibly interesting.

Ángel Marí talks quite a lot of sense.

"To try to eradicate drugs with only police measures is barbarism".

Hear hear.

That said, there was a bit of barbarism in the carpark at Manumission last night. Three cars full of cops were by the guest list entrance searching people.

There were a lot around Dc10 yesterday too, my flatmate tells me.

in that reunion the authorities asked to the clubs to respect the closing time (6am) from tomorrow wednesday 14th, to avoid the traffic chaos as schools reopen (that means monday to friday during the rest of the season):

just watched the news on the tv and they commented about that reunion. this time it was to talk about the bars that, without the necessary license, work as "clubs". according to the local tv, they made a list with 6 of these places to control them!!

more details tomorrow in the newspapers..........

btw, they are interviewing paquita cardona (president of the disco association) on the tv just now :!:

and now in english:

Senegalese Detained.
11 Senegalese citizens have apparently been detained last week in Sant Antoni by the customs police. They are being questioned over 140.000€ worth of various types of drugs in packets ready for sale on the streets, pirate CD's, false goods, fake luxury items, mobile telephones & cash found when the police searched premises associated with the detained men. At least 2 of the men detained will be expelled from Spain as they are seemingly here illegally. A 3rd man will be kept in prison before being transferred to Seville to answer charges pending against him in this area of Spain. The rest of the men were released & are now supposedly awaiting trial for drug & other offences.

Please Close On Time.
Jose Manuel Bar, Director in charge of the Guardia Civil & National Police on the island, apparently had a meeting last week with the big clubs on the island & in particular with those located on the Sant Antoni to Eivissa road, asking them to close on time at 6am as the municipal bye-laws say they should. Bar made this request as the clubs are still going to be open as the school year starts in a few days time & he apparently wants no traffic problems or dangers caused by people supposedly leaving the discos later than they should & interfering with the early morning school traffic using the roads.
Later in the week there was another meeting between the Consell Island Government & all the Town Halls on the island where they reportedly agreed that all discos should supposedly be closed & empty at 06h & cannot open again until 08h. It was also agreed to make sure all other types of business on the island strictly adhered to their official opening & closing times. They will also seemingly clamp down on all fiestas which take place in the open air. The authorities also supposedly made advances in agreeing common policies on strictly controlling all types of publicity, ticket touts & street selling around the island
