Dolphin Trouble

There was drama tinged with sadness in the waters of Playa den Bossa
on Wednesday, as a baby dolphin had to be rescued from the sea.

At around 5.30 p.m. the lifeguards of Sport & Salvament, the company
which handles life-saving on all of the capital's beaches,
became aware of the presence of the dolphin.
They immediately got into the water to try and coax the animal
back out to deeper waters.
However, it appears the animal was in some discomfort and blood could be seen
seeping from its nose and tail.
It was quickly decided that the animal would need to be captured and treated
at the animal rescue centre in San Antonio.
With the help of the Guardia Civil the animal was wrapped in a damp blanket
and put on the back of a pickup truck.
Constant trips to the sea were needed by the helpers and by some stunned onlookers
to try and keep the animal moist.

At around 7 p.m. he was raced off to the centre
but sadly died before arriving at his destination.

i always wanted to know which clown started ages ago
tiling the rotten tribune but gave up after 15 tiles

I know who started the tiling... there's a guy who lives under the dolphinarium! he said water was leaking through but he ended up just filling the cracks with concrete.

Body Washes Up

Authorities in the municipality were waiting on the results of an analysis report
after the bodies of two dolphins were found two days apart.
Wednesday morning saw the first body appear on the beach at s´Arenal.

The Town Hall was advised of the body floating in the sea at 7a.m.
but it was not until midday that it eventually found its way to the beach,
covered in oil.
A sample was taken from the mouth and dorsal area of the animal,
and sent to Marineland in Mallorca for analysis.

Sources at the Town Hall claimed the dolphin could have become stained with the oil
in the port of San Antonio, as there are currently a number of sunken boats
in the vicinity of the beach.

However a second dolphin, measuring 90cm, and said to be an infant,
washed up close to Calo des Moro, with the Town Hall claiming they needed to wait
for the reports before knowing if this was just a coincidence.

Took the track from pdb down to sant francesc, past the northermost salt pans.
Saw the dolphinarium, but did'nt realise what it was (although had seen this thread before)
Thought it was a similar thing to that place in the hills, left to rot and graffed up,can't remember the name.....70s 80s ents venue.
When we got to sant francesc there was a large sign on the roadside wall, some sort of re-development?
Half the building seems to be lived in,and is in rough condition, little dog chased and barked at me ! The actual church part is immaculate with a notice of services posted.

ps. fantastic bronze sculpted figure next to the water 8) Edit : place in the hills=festival club.

Tracked Down

The Town Hall of San Jose has eventually managed to locate the owner
of the old dolphinarium, which has lain in ruins for the last 20 years.

The task of finding the proprietor was made more difficult due to the fact
he was not enrolled at the Land Registry, and the land had been bought
through a series of auctions.
However, after exhaustive investigation the owner has eventually been discovered
in Madrid, and negotiations will now begin to buy the land.

Mayor Josep Mari Ribas Agustinet admitted it was of little value,
as nothing could ever be built there as the land had now become protected
within the ses Salinas natural park.

He revealed that the idea was to sit down to some civil discussions with the owner
to try and negotiate the sale of the land.
However, he warned if an agreement could not be reached the Town Hall would
contemplate expropriating the land, although this would remain a last resort.

The dolphinarium was build during the 70s but has remained derelict
for the better part of the last 25 years.

The disused park is made up of a number of swimming pools, terraces and other parts,
all of which the Town Hall would like to demolish to return the area back
to its original state.
