DC10 getting demolished

1) it has a reputation for having a reputation, its like every1 thinks they should be acting all wacky/crazy/out there cos they are at dc10, even if they are not actually like that.
quote]

Kind of agree in that before I went to dc-10 people used words like "evil"and "debauchery "and "wrong" etc to describe Dc-10 as if it housed some deep underbelly of society full of complete nutters and reprobrates

I personally went not knowing what to expect but wasnt particularly dissapointed that it wasnt anything like Ive described above. In fact I thought it was one of the "cleanest" places I went to with hardly any mess heads when I turned up at 2pm overall though I loved it just because everyone seemed to be having a good time and because the sound and sound system was immense

So basically I agree that DC-10 doesnt live up to its rep as a house of madness but that doesnt prevent it being a great day out with few peers on the day / eve time scene.

I imagine the messiness reputation dates back to its days as an afterparty venue but of course its going to lose that aspect when it becomes an event in its own right that the majority of people now turn up at 3pm+ with the post space crowd probs leaving by mid aft

heard yet again more rumors about this supposedly the owner is pissed pff with it made his money and wants out so after new year thats it !!!!!

DC10, by newbie...

I rarely get involved in any debates on this site but I'd really like to give my two pence worth on this, because of how strongly I feel about DC10...

I think it's amazing and very cool that some of the people on this site have been clubbing forever and were lucky enough to experience the making of history, if you like, with regards to the music and some clubs, etc.
And because they were there through the most awsome, ground-breaking moments, I can understand that things at the moment seem a bit less great, less exciting, more commercial, whatever.

But not everyone was as lucky as you guys, to be a part of that. For example I only discovered house music about 5 years ago, but then it changed my life my life completely. Also, I've only been to Ibiza 4 times, and 2006 was my first DC10 experience. And it was, for me, simply the most mind blowing experience EVER - the people, the music, the atmosphere, everything about it. And I've been going out pretty much every weekend for these past 5 years all over UK clubs, festivals, and seen probably over 80% of DJs so I'm comparing to a fairly decent clubbing "career".
So, just because we are younger/late developers or whatever and weren't there with you when it was all brand new & underground, we are still perfectly entitled to love it as it is now! Because for us it's still is amazing, new, different .... please don't spoil it! especially by wishing that it gets closed down :( why should a place get closed down just because you don't enjoy it any more - maybe you can go to other clubs and discover some new amazing places and will come join you in a few years if we get tired of DC10 ;) (obviously, not that your wishing could just make it happen but you know what I mean...)
And just the last point, about the music, and then I'll stop my rant...
My music taste has evolved over the years as I got more and more involved into the scene, so I have to say the evolution of funky house-via whatever - to minimal techno isn't really such an unusual thing, and certainly not bad. Why can't people change their taste, as they discover new and better things? Or why can't they get tired of funky house, for example, just like some of you got tired of DC10? I know that Mixmag is a funny mix of useful, useless, stupid and downright mad, but when I was first discovering clubbing and had zero knowledge about it, and didn't have many friends into it to share it with, Mixmag was invaluable to me - learnt a lot (such as where to go out, what's wrong with that) and felt I was part of this great community...

So all I'm trying to say is there will always be new people coming into the scene (well, unless we'd prefer dance music to die out!?) and for them, your old and worn out experiences, will be shiny and brand new. We'll never agree on DC10 is good/bad because we simply come from a totally different perspective but that's ok?

Anyhow - I'm sure this will cause a few more disagreements now - but I just thought I'd share with you what I think about this....

no no, well said.

And well said from me Liverpool Chick ;)
Ditto.

Some people just don't like to share their toys. Yes grego that means you.

;)

For me Dc10 changed in 2001. I looked around at one event mid season and hardly recognised anyone. I bought a drink for a mate who'd I'd partied with a lot the previous year and toasted times past.

I know the guys that run it and they generously let me and usually some mates in for free when I go. (For the record Spotlight have no financial interest in the place, besides what some of us spend at the bar.)

It's hard making the transition to a pay club but I think Circo Loco have done it well and deserve their success. The music has less of the anything goes policy previously in place but personally I'm glad Pete Tong doesn't get a go anymore and that Joey Negro got knocked back this year.

Instead they spend their money on top flight international and underground talent and as a consequence contribute more to the cutting edge IMO.

As for the crowd, I think it's pretty difficult to accurately judge the authenticity of someone else's "wackyness". Like any night, it can change drastically from one party to the next - it's as wrong as you make it.

While some consumers are more sophisticated than others, good times are good times no matter how hip you are.

That said, a large number of my mates didn't bother with the closing this year, or just popped in to show their faces. They saved up their energy for the Blue Marlin gig the following day.

Happy New Year everyone :p

I'm not actually from Liverpool, but I now live in Liverpool and I love it with capital L!

Now prepare yourselves for a pro-Liverpool marketing presentation please :)

It's really exciting and vibrant, it's got great clubbing culture (and other culture - from art to theatres to whatever, Liverpool has it - next Turner prize will be exhibited here at Tate Liverpool & leaving London for the very first time!!), amazing people - in 10 months we have made so many friends here that it would take you 2-3 years at least to do that in London (or never, possibly).

There are really beautiful parts to the city, with some of the best neo-classical buildings in the country and it's got largest number of grade-listed buildings of all UK cities except London! Did you know that the waterfront is listed as World Heritage Site, that means alongside things like Taj Mahal or Great Barrier Reef - honest! It does look a bit like a building site at the mo but they're preparing it for Capital of Culture 2008, can't be helped.

As for its notoriety ....I think a lot of it is based on how Liverpool used to be in 70s and 80s but it's a very different place now (if you stay out of no-go areas ;) ).

Come visit us & I'll show you what I mean! And take you out for a fab night clubbing :) Sorry for the lecture, I just can't help but defend this city as we're soooo happy here...

(signed: proud to be an adopted-Scouser, steps down from the soapbox.. )

Well said Liverpool Chick!!!

My gf is from London and when she comes up here she loves it too!

If we could rid the streets of Scallies clad like teenage mountaineers then it would be better still! They make my blood boil...

Happy christmas!
