Dance Music: Where are things at?

Looks like this article ruffled a few feathers this week. Whilst agreeing with the main thrust of the piece, I'm not sure cultural appropriation or 'depoliticised' (hooray!) dancefloors are the real issue here. The issue for me continues to be boring partie$ featuring boring mu$ic pitched at boring punter$

Certain music and certain venues attract trouble, you only have to look at Sheffield for that back in the day. Gatecrasher - people enjoying themselves and happy. 100 yards round the corner is Niche playing Baseline - no end of trouble with people carrying weapons and gang trouble, which ended up getting the club raided and closed for good.

Part of me hopes not regardless of how good he was back then. There would be a shift in the Trance scene which would make it more popular again. Then you’d get all the mongs flooding over with him who follow a trend, suddenly the dancefloors are filled with people stood about cause it’s the latest thing and not there for the right reasons.
 
This is a really interesting and honest podcast with Dixon, where he discusses 20 years of Innervisions, the current promoter > venue > label model and also goes into a bit of detail about Transmoderna and why it didn't succeed. He also takes some accountability for the rise of 3D mapping in clubs.
