Didn’t the UK order enough doses to vaccinate the entire country? I’m sure everyone will eventually have the option.

... eventually being the relevant word here and if that's 9 months are we all to be held to blame if we catch it in the meantime ? I don;t think they are aspiring to vaccinate the whole country and have never said they are aiming to. They've only got enough Pfizer ordered to sort out the over-65s, critical Health workers and the clinically extremely vulnerable. We're dependent on the deactivated cold virus Oxford vaccine as a back-up and that's well behind on licencing. Been in virtual lockdown regardless of rules for 10 months to all intents and purposes. Push that to 16 and life as I knew it won't be retrievable even if society opens up again. I'll likely be starting from scratch. Again. For the 3rd time in a decade.

the way I read it was, theres a priority list & once that's done only the under 50s are left. They can then get vaccinated after that when there is availability.

Iirc there are 7-9 vaccines in the uk portfolio, so should be enough for uk pop if a few fail to come through.

I'd personally prefer the synthetic delivery mechanism ones as opposed to the modified cold virus etc ones, but all approved ones will be safe. The latter have less stringent storage requirements as stable at higher temps.

Interestingly, the moderna one doesn't need to be stored at as low temps as Pfizer one as they've had more years experience at making them & so should be a bit easier to distribute.

Bud in non-existent around here some hotels would have it for American tourists I reckon. No bars have it on draught or in bottles.. it's the drink of choice for the traveler community and is associated with them.. think it is because it's easy for them to say.. can't think of any other reason...
Pint of smithwicks for me if Im on the Emerald Isle

Or I just understand a lot more about this than you by working in healthcare for 25 years, studying to Masters level (nearly twice now) in healthcare and living this pandemic first hand compared to you and your Facebook evidence ? One of the two
This sums up where we are these days, people with absolutely no qualifications in a subject have been given the belief that their opinions are as valid as someone who is an expert in their field. It's endemic and is responsible for the Brexit shambles and the mess we currently find ourselves in dealing with the virus. I find it stupefying arrogant that some people think they can read a few articles off the internet and then claim to be as well informed on a subject as an expert who's spent their life studying and working in that field.

I can't believe that poster is still being allowed to post nonsense on here and just seems to get a patronising pat on the head for his troubles. He is literally telling a clinician who has dealt with this shitshow for a year and has recently been hospitalised because of it, that he doesn't know what he is talking about because.... well the internet innit. MORON!!!!

Please get him out this thread and keep him out

He’s quite cleverly staying within the forum rules

It's infuriating. I've had him on ignore for months but saw Hally was conversing with him so looked and couldn't believe what I was reading. It should be possible to remove people from particular threads on most forums and I have no idea why this hasn't been done. I'm not going to say what I think of him or his moon howling bullshit, it will get me banned.

Let him post about crappy tech music and his blow up dolls to his hearts content but on this thread his drivel is uninformed, dangerous, offensive and really f***ing boring

I can’t see why they cannot get these vaccines programs out faster? Maybe someone could explain @Hally @MrHullMysterious

Basically they can't make it fast enough for the massive demand.

Also the storage requirements make it hard to take a box of doses into a care home without the worry of it going off. (Think they can keep it in a cool box for max 6 hours, or normal fridge for 1-5 days or so once at the home).

So phase 1 program in uk is to vaccinate all the peeps on the priority list asap. After that will be a 2nd phase to vaccinate those under 50 from what I gather.

The other issue is its 2 jabs 3 weeks appart. So first ~month you vaccinate people, then after that you need x2 the doses to keep vaccinating new people.

So in short, ability to manufacture, store , transport and store at other ends are what slows it down.

Oxford vaccine and similar ones can be produced at a larger scale and less stringent storage requirements. So hopefully a few of those will be approved and used for the masses under 50. (You want the highest efficacy ones to be used on the most at risk)

But I could be wrong as I just read this shit on the internets ?
