Looks like a great project. The only thing keeping my sanity at the moment is the 1 hour of exercise we are allowed a day.

So, I've been curious ... what's the science behind only allowing 1 hour of exercise a day?

See, I'm entirely for restrictions that are based on science to significantly reduce the spread of infection, but I'm also concerned that too few people are willing to stand up to unreasonable government restrictions that don't really have good science behind them. And I don't accept "because some people are being irresponsible" as a legitimate justification for taking away rights from all.

It's the inevitable "I'm a bigger despot than you are" competition ramping up ... 7 years in prison ? I'll raise you "shot dead on sight" ... it'll be "make your family eat each other" next

I have ordered in everything to build this alongside all the other projects lined up for the next few weeks >>

Seeing as I agreed not to exercise in the house it was inevitable - and may be a case of better to ask forgiveness than seek permission if the posts and concrete mix arrive
I was looking into this too, but attached to the house wall type (DIY obvs)

I would assume that the theory is that the longer you are out in public the greater your chances of some sort of interaction with the virus are, so if you're out for two hours you're twice as exposed as if you were out for one hour. I suppose one hour was chosen as some reasonable compromise.

Science?

You’re asking the wrong bloke here ?

Although generally speaking I don’t train any longer than an hour, normally. Keep it short and sharp.

Unless I’m training for something specific, then the training is bespoke.

People can over train, that happens a lot.

I think the govt have probably got it right with 1 hour a day and I’m grateful for it, considering the lockdowns in Italy and Spain don’t allow it.

I think they are relying on people in the UK to be sensible and not kick the arse out of it. I haven’t seen any police officers waiting about with stop watches or anything ?

Being a keen runner I'm getting out and setting my lungs on fire every other day.

Additionally I've got a decent punch bag set up in the garage.

So could possibly get my glittering amateur boxing career back on track after this, or if the Great North Run is still on I could give Mo Farah a run for his money ?

Both very doubtful lol

Lol. Yeah I went 16 days without training or running as I was so embroiled in trying to get the house ready for a lengthy lockdown. Nearly broke me mentally !! Did a HIIT followed by resistance trainer circuit session a couple of days ago and got reset, but well out of shape now. I am missing running so much, need to get out tomorrow. I've never run from home before, all my routes involve a drive. It's all steep hills round here which if fine but better when I've not just had a lengthy break ... and nobody in the village knows I run regularly so it's all a bit odd and I'm not about to start doing laps of the village centre out of the blue  !! I also almost always ran with a run club so there's the whole running on your own again, will have to get the headphones charged up and bang on some choons I think.

Ahh i haven’t even seen any figures!? Was just reporting on personal experience?

Well, Tuesday they reported the transport figures, showing decreased use and saying "well done everybody" coinciding with "there are signs to be positive"

What happens?
Everybody jumps back in their car and there's a spike in use by Wednesday's address ?

From personal ex
I said it before I think. Herd immunity while putting the risk groups in quarantine.
Not shutting down life and putting everyone in lockdowns without perspective or a solid plan like most governments do. Perhaps that's the Swedish way.

Today we had a lady in her 40s, with underlying health conditions, who had to be incubated to keep her alive. She Skyped her three children who she hadnt seen for 8 days because the likelihood is she would die. Your plan would result in a lot of this and the NHS would still be overwhelmed even if you quarantined the vulnerable (which is incredibly hard when you consider care homes and hospitals need staffing)

Yes, this.

There is enough wealth in the world to see us through this.

But I’m not surprised by the levels of greed shown in recent weeks.

Owner of Weatherspoons, owner of Virgin and owners of some premiership football clubs should hang their heads in shame. To name a few.

People won’t forget this.
Some celebs are doing there bit.. But yes Weatherspoons etc should too

Virgin is going to helping nhs
Bill gates donated 100 million
Oprah 10 million
Ralph Lauren 10 million
Russell Wilson donated to a charity feed America or something for families

Some are putting there hand in their pocket which they should

A report in the Guardian suggests un-named
Conservative backbenchers voiced concern in private about the government’s failure to ramp up testing, saying there was anxiety that the public mood could turn against the government rapidly if it appeared there was no end to the lockdown as a result.
A former minister who supported Johnson in the leadership contest said they were worried public sentiment could turn rapidly: “I think the government could get blown away if people are still inside after Easter and there is no progress on testing.”
One senior MP said the party will be watching the polls closely and said he was “frankly amazed” that Johnson’s popularity was holding up at present.

Strikes me all the tories are worried about is the polls, not our health. And after mass testing, what do those of us who haven't caught the virus do? Stay indoors for ever? Think I'd go out and see if I could get it and hopefully survive, then I'm free??

If peolpe out-and-about have had it and can't pass it on, then they can't pass it on to me and as long it can be proved I'm not a carrier where's the problem??

Over here in the US, I think somehow Trump's approval rating is the highest it's been since he took office. I think in a crisis like this, leaders tend to get credit for any small thing they get right while more of a pass for things they mess up. Though it's crazy to think his bungling of how we've handled the pandemic might in the end be what gets him re-elected in November.

I don't know how he hasn't handled it very well either...calling it the Chinese virus

Some states are still going to the beach!
