The default Tory government answer: nothing to do with health, everything to do with money

Can't believe she's still stuck there btw. What a nightmare
20210417_133041.jpgBit the bullet and got a plan to get her back. Not the most fun £1750 I've ever spent....plus the new flight, her unpaid leave. Ouch

It looks very much like her parents both got Covid from people from the UK who went over to Pakistan in January when it was horrendous here. F*****g idiots

Really done with covid personally.

On the plus side pub booked for this afternoon, no work until Tuesday, going to mess myself up proper. And no one to moan at me about it 😁

And in those 725 pages not one of us has been able to set foot in Ibiza!!
Actually...I did ;-) End of July 2020.

It was a short timeframe in July / Augustus, about 4-6 weeks where all lights were green, from the Dutch and Spanish side to travel without PCR or quarantaine.

That being said...makes it even crazier we are now going into a summer where we will need a vaccination passport or negative test for every thing.

This is what happens when you encourage mutations and fail to take measures to slow spread. There is no predicting who is going to get hit hard, and all the statistics in the world mean nothing if it's you who winds up in ICU. ^^

... and religious festivals !
What you talking about. We just need to isolate the vulnerable and rest can get back to normal... 🙄

/sarcasm

Ps: stop with you "fear porn" 🤭

Nepal - today - full house at the cricket. Just looked at their stats - cases rising recently, deaths also rising again. Admittedly deaths are in single figures, but if you have a small population it becomes significant?

What we've seen is that every case is prolonging the pandemic and putting the endpoint in jeopardy by creating the conditions to undermine our efforts to contain it. We've also seen the logistics of scaling up and delivering vaccines on a big enough scale to stay ahead of it all and only a handful of countries have any real prospect of doing that before vaccine efficacy wanes.

Interested to see a guy from Pink Floyd on TV the other night. Said in common with some others he couldn't look at a large stadium of people crammed together with the pandemic ongoing and put on a performance until the pandemic is over worldwide. That's even coming from a person who could hardly be painted out to have had any vestige of a puritanical past ! A little extreme perhaps ...

However I understand where he's coming from - I couldn't enter a nightclub or go to a party and feel comfortable with most of the world in the state it's in and knowing there were leaky borders and millions of people at risk. It's not something to gloat about, to me it's selfish and irresponsible. Even if it was allowed. Perhaps not boshing drugs helps - because that's the only thing I can see could knock my moral compass off track.... and I guess if doing drugs (or drinking) is what's fuelling what I otherwise believe isn't right, I made the right decision to stop both.

Not sure about this, we might not be in a position where the ‘pandemic is over worldwide’ for years, maybe even decades. We have to find a way where we can get normal life back with the necessary precautions before then. A club or stadium full of people who have been tested/vaccinated and where community prevalence is low is not something we should fear as a society, imo.

It's a balance innit? The price of being able to do that might be heavily restricted travel to certain other countries. I think some people forget this has *only* being going on a year, as if we should have worked out to deal with it rather than actually still be feeling our way cautiously through it.

That's it - the pressure Governments are under to "jump the gun" both financially and politically is huge, and that just doesn't work. The number of people testing positive during supervised hotel quarantine in New Zealand / Australia after arriving with a negative PCR shows importation is a real risk., especially if those people go into "non-compliant" communities or the system relies on trust rather than enforcement. This surge testing thing may or may not work, it'll be interesting to see.

As far as events are concerned, much will depend on how effective the follow-up is - I seriously doubt there will be much compliance with post-entry testing We may be OK for a while but by the time it emerges spreading events have happened it may be too late to address the effects, especially so if there's a polyglot of tourists mixing with a local population. We shall see !!

x’s 10000000

Some of the things posted in here is absolutely insane.

I'm hopeful for domestic things going to plan. International things less so than I was few months ago.

If they do happen, they will be fragmented or feel completely different to 2019, which is a shame.

Although something might be pulled out of the bag, you never know. 🤷‍♂️
