Not sure the price aspect is entirely true for the AZ vaccine though, weren't they making it at cost price? Sure I read somewhat that it was a flat fee for everyone (and it was just the distribution that would differ).

One thing I will say though is that for as much criticism as it's come in for, my experience of test and trace has been positive. You can tell it's people WFH who've just been given a headset and a call script, but we've had plenty of information and support sent out way with frequent phone calls checking in on us (and not just to make sure we're self isolating but also to check our symptoms and offer advice if needed). It's the least you'd expect for the cost of it, but it's been reassuring for us at least.

Some friends made this short film a couple of years ago. They've just made it available to view for 24hours

Some of the themes are a little prophetic for the current world situation

Thought I should share it, and this seemed as good a thread as any

That was interesting thanks

More like open the pubs 3 weeks after the start of May and that will ensure people can go with the minimum risk of winding up clogging up the Health Service if they catch it as they should have built up their initial protection by then. Maybe the NHS can get back to clearing the massive backlog of critical operations that have been postponed to increase capacity for Covid patients !

For everyone who is still cleaning their shopping carts...

Experts say that it makes sense to recommend hand washing, but some researchers are pushing back against the focus on surfaces.

how does that work? You can't get it off surfaces, but still need to wash hands?

Less likely to get it off surfaces than previously thought but still a chance. And the risk/reward benefit for the simple task of washing your hands is worth it!

Good practice to regularly wash your hands and sanitise filthy surfaces (likes shopping trolley) anyway though innit. Irrespective of what's going on at the moment

This springs to mind:

Yeah, I love this while deep cleaning thing. You realise how filthy things were before. The Tube in London is cleaner than Singapore at the moment. I last stayed in a hotel last September, and man it was spotless. They were even changing the sheets everyday. I asked them to stop (environmental hat on), but they refused. The policy was the policy, no exceptions.

Seen a guy wrestling the door in shop yesterday with his elbows trying to get it open because he didn't want to touch the handle with his hands.
Was a good fight.

I haven't been touching door handles in shops / restaurants etc for years if I can help it. The craziest example being inward opening doors on public toilets - just as you've washed your hands you touch the door handle a load of people who don't wash their hands have been touching to get out - or to use another example turn off a tap you just touched before you washed them. It's not just Coronavirus it's all the flu, colds and other nasties which do the rounds. Spare paper towel or elbows every time haha !

By far the biggest issue has always been the lack of HEPA filters in the ventilation systems of closed public spaces and offices - especially those with aircon or fan heaters. Any form of public transport other than aeroplanes too. Personally I'm all for people having to mask up indoors and on public transport. But it's easy for me to say because I avoid poorly ventilated indoor public spaces and public transport like the plague at the best of times and left behind office workspaces over 8 years ago - one significant contributing factor to avoid being in germ filled environments - so don't have to face doing it regularly myself.

You need to go to a hotel in the Brittania chain!

Just out of interest, has there been a confirmed case of a passenger or staff contractibe covid through being on a plane?

I like everything clean but also guess it's probably not good for anyone's immune system to have everything completely sanitised. Rolling around in the mud as a kid surely has it's benefits

Personally I hope Businesses making Sanitiser readily available becomes a rule after this pandemic, yes I know some Bacteria is good and becoming resistant to antibiotics also a big concern right now.

The reduction in public toilets over the years hasn't helped either, some areas there just isn't anywhere to clean your hands.

I'm sure that's true, if new-born were kept in space suits until they were 18 they would probably face instant death when taken off!! In the good old days parents used to organise chicken-pox/measles parties so their kids could get infected and then be immune (at primary we used to play join the dots on Rosemary's backside the day after). And, of course, isolated tribes are kept isolated so as they aren't afflicted by things like man-flu.

Now that it's proven that a lot of roles can be worked from home I hope we stop this culture of people 'soldiering' into work when ill to cough and sneeze all over everyone and making the whole office ill. But also need to be wary that people who aren't well enough to work are off work altogether not made to log on from home in a zombie like state.
