You'd rather Corbyn? I'm not Boris's biggest fan but at least we might have an economy to come back to after this...

I don't see anything to see suggest Corbyn would have been worse. The Tories are realising they are going to need to spend and support people.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, told LBC this morning that he argued at the Cobra emergency committee meeting that construction workers should be told to stay away from work, but that he was over-ruled by Boris Johnson.

Many people think BJ has been slow to act appropriately given he could see what was happening in Italy and Spain. I think a Labour govt might have acted sooner.

And say what you like about our current UK govt, but there is a move to financially help workers who are being sent home... That won't happen in the U.S.. I guess we're about to see how brutal American capitalism is.

In practice: not very brutal. They are working on bailout legislation that will likely be announced in a few hours.

Will likely cut checks to families for a few thousand$$$ monthly until this passes, but most will go to industry (as per usual).

I know it won't win me any free shots of hierbas around here, but I can't help shake the feeling our fears and emotions are being used.?

It’s an awful situation and I’m not sure any western leader can get this right whatever they do. Having lived a fair bit in the Far East, I’m sure those policies wouldn’t have worked in the UK. I’ve also studied at the same uni where a lot of the government experts come from - London School of Hygiene, and I see what they are trying to do. Sadly, it seems the real problem was a failure to scale up supply chains and logistics when the UK could see what was coming. They dithered and lost a vital week or two. Other than that, I think Boris has done reasonably well.

I work full time in msk orthopaedics. All my clinics have been cancelled for the last 2 weeks, just doing some phone reviews and basically doing very little. But will be redeployed soon where its needed most.
Its a strange atmosphere in the nhs at the moment, like a calm before the storm.
I think the big 'surge' will start next week.

With all hotels in Ibiza closed, have any said what is happening about bookings which were pre-paid / non refundable?

Looking highly unlikely that my trip in late May will go ahead.

well I'm sure that if the hotel is closed during the planned period they'll have to refund you - either that or at least make it possible for you to use the booking for a different date. anything else can't be legal can it?

I'd hope so but I've heard a lot of horror stories about Booking.com (not that I booked via them) charging a fee for cancellations.

Fine to move it to later in the season or 2021, if I needed to. Although would probably prefer the money back!

I had a booking cancelled last night for a walking trip we had planned this weekend, full refund was given

Same situation. I reached out directly to the hotel and got a call back and email this morning. Missed the 5am call, but email basically said check with Expedia. On the Expedia site they are refunding or recrediting April bookings. I guess we will find out about May in a few weeks.

Not trivial for me, as I also footed the bill for in-laws.

Some parts feel close to breaking point already sadly. Going to be an incredibly hard few months

I'm a landscaper and we've just be asked to stop coming to the retirement properties we work at, which is a big chunk of our working week. My boss is saying he still has other work that we can get on with but I'm thinking hang on, our work is hardly a 'key role' - surely i can refuse to work and qualify for the government 'Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme' or do I have to wait for my boss to make that call?!
