Went for weekly shop this morning after running fridge and cupboard supplies down to the bone. A few fellow shoppers in the supermarket, but all calm and all respectfully keeping their distance.
Lots of empty shelves but managed to get enough, both in quantity and variation and most importantly without being an inconsiderate stock-piler.
Glad I waited and didn't "brave" the crowds and scenes of carnage at the weekend now
Back in the safety of home now with no intention of leaving

I do have huge sympathy for the workforce unable to work from home though. The message is muddied and firm directive from the government is needed that cannot be open to interpretation.

This definitely isn't a lockdown in any sense of the word, but hopefully it's the stage immediately before

Ahmen. I didnt have a clue after the speech last night if i was meant to go to work or not but i THINK construction industry is going on as normall unless the company itself has made the decision to shut down. Needs clarifying ASAP and imo sites need shut down

If a building site can operate with people observing the 2M distancing rules. And only 1 person per vehicle (except in case of medical emergency) then so be it. It is amazing how many people need a big list of don'ts to make a decision as to what to do

Boris's position has been horrifically confused and wasting precious time. possibly due to the absolute chaos/division in govt (see that article hull mysterious shared) I think the Spanish have got this right. everyone home at all times except to go to the shops or work when they can't work from home. people getting done for being on streets after dark. shops now shutting at 7 here though. some insisting on gloves and masks before you enter

what has been said that should be in place here in Scotland
A critical business need is not what is critical to run your business. It is what is critical to run the country.”

An issue has also been raised regarding the current pressure on the NHS and their ability to deal with industrial accidents.

Construction only continuing because so many are self employed and they haven't sorted out what to do for them yet. Later this week I bet that stops too ! Builders' merchants like Travis & Jewson all shut today

I'll go for my weekly shop tomorrow - trying to figure out the best time to hit the supermarket. Would rather have less choice on the shelves than have to stand in a queue for ages. Managed to pick up a packet of pasta and a tin of tomatoes and the village shop this morning. Plus beer/cider, obviously.

Bolsonaro and Trump: utter f***ing idiots who are going to cause a lot of deaths. Hopefully, the people who voted for them take note.

they won't. they're supported by fanatical evangelicals and flat-earthers convinced that everything is a liberal conspiracy. you can't reason with that.

We'll see. I imagine those healthcare systems will really be tested. I'd expect a lot more people die proportionally in those countries than in most European countries. ?

Wow. The stupidity of this comment. The majority of benefits gets paid to those in work. People going out to work everyday and being paid such poor wages that they need the state to top it up so they can live.

The idea of ‘bone idle benefits claimants’ is so comforting to you isn’t it. I suggest you direct your anger towards such employers. Or how about those huge multinationals who through clever accounting pay relatively minuscule amounts of tax (you’ll no doubt find a few who are asking to be bailed out by the taxpayer right now funnily enough!)
Hear, hear!

I'll still be working right through this in a factory with 180 people. Have a letter from the council to determine we can be defined as key workers so no chance its closing. Have to take the positive that I will have a job through the end of all this and just got to observe the rest of the guidelines as best we can.
