Reports saying Spain have briefed their tourism industry that they won't open to international tourists until the end of Summer.

Seems sensible to me, opening up at peak time with less numbers vaccinated would be a mess. A slower start in September/October and that longer season into November we dreamt about last year might be better.

That would be absolutely insane and dumb.

Not trying to undermine the seriousness of suicide and mental health, but can anyone produce figures to say that suicides are drastically up in comparison to other years?

Suicide is one of the main arguments for anti lockdown folk, but I don't think iv seen any figures. Anyone know?

Says nothing statistically significant as yet. I suspect it will be in the following years as people are stuck out of work, poor health and so on.

Tough for governments, lockdowns deal with the immediate and very real deaths happening at an alarmingly high rate.

Long term defo need more mental health support. Esp for front line workers who are suffering from PTSD. I think the uk gov has setup a committee to look into such things ?

what would 12billion have bought the NHS? Instead of a waste of time T&T service that cash wouldve been better building and staffing extra NHS services - would have that made a difference Hally or too short a timeframe to have implemented improvements that would have made a difference this winter?
I'm sure you could have done something with it but the real shortage is trained and experienced staff

What a colossal waste of money though

There is a lot of mental health support available in our setting. Below PTSD I'm seeing a lot of anxiety, depression and substance misuse. I think a lot of staff will leave when we get to the other side, it's only loyalty to colleagues that is keeping them going

If I'm honest I'm definitely not right. Learnt my lessons from April and going down a healthier route

Not sure if it's been mentioned as I admittedly havnt read the last few pages.

But 100 British army medics have been flown over to n.ireland to work in the hospitals due to staff shortages.

Has cause a bit of a stir and a divide here.

On the suicide aspect, terrible for anyone connected, I've not heard of anyone who has committed suicide recently.

I have found in the past locally that suicides do seem to come together. Possibly people see others 'getting out' and think it will answer their problems.

I do know a number people struggling mentally though ?

So they suspect mortality increased by 30% to 40% for all age groups with UK strain?

South Africa may be less susceptible to current vaccines?

Happy days

Armin Van Buuren announces plans for a 40,000 capacity festival weekend for A State of Trance 1000 in Holland - whatever you think of him, 20 years of a weekly radio show is dedication and quite an achievement:

Armin mentioned the team had been liaising with the Dutch government who estimate 3rd September is a realistic target for festivals - maybe @ElrowLovers will able to offer more on the situation but surely this will be too soon?

Our government has stated they will financially back up all big events after July 1st. So basically that means the industry can prepare festivals and events taking place after July 1st and if by then the government decides it's not possible yet they government covers all the costs.

To be honest, to most people here that news feels like a sweetener to keep the crowd quiet and an attempt to create some sort of perspective.
Every end date or agenda so far has been overwritten with new measures without any end date so not many people believe festival season will start after July 1st especially.not with our vaccination program, which seems to be the slowest in the entire EU.

But September...who knows. Same weekend should be ElrowTown Amsterdam....so if festivals are possible by then, you'll know my choice.
I will never get tired of real trance like the old days, but it's been a long time since that was Armins sound.

Very flakey evidence. Lots of should, could, maybe and perhaps in his brief.
Just read what Johnson said about this.
Smells like fearporn to me until there's real evidence on this. Would be the opposite of what virus mutations always do, namely get more contagious but less severe. Unlikely.
I also love how world leaders keep saying: We might have to put up even stricter rules soon.
Okay what's next, tie us to our beds all day?
